  1. Can anyone recommend someone reliable and trustworthy to carry out a full service on my chipper. It's 2007, has 824 hours and needs usual annual service, as well as a good look over to check bearings, change anvils and roller blades and adjust / stop bar. Basically good check over. I'm based near watford in hertfordshire, and have used jcb green shield in Hemel Hempstead before, just wondering if anyone else around here. Thanks for any advice. 2. Thanks for the above advice re the tractor and trailer, have got a 8 tonne dump trailer at the moment so that's not a problem. Can see your point about the timber trailer in the woods being much better. Looks like a timber trailer with removable crane is best way forward. Re roof mount guys, I can sadly only afford one tractor and do need a loader and to be able to use tractor for other stuff as well, so don't think a roof mount would be practical. 4. I recon it is enough quicker to be worth it, wasn't much more money, just takes a bit of time to get used to judging where to put on different size logs. Put it this way it stays on nearly all the time now, only thing to watch is it can sometimes chuck the two quarters nearest you into your stomach, but you soon learn when this is likely to happen I certainly think it's worth it Sent from my D5503 using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. We use a posch hydro combi 22t with a four way splitter (slides off to a two way splitter if you find a really tough bit) with one guy cutting with a saw and one splitting we can do 10-12cubic metres bagged in vented bags and in barn in a day with our arb waste, without going too hell for leather. Have metal stand on base as we cut it all to rings to split (built a large table that sits on top so you are not always picking bits up) spent ages looking at it and can't see how you can do it much quicker without a massive splitter Sent from my D5503 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Hi all, I currently run a 2009 kubota m9540 for yard work (moving woodchip, splitting logs), mowing, hay cutting and hauling timber and chip from jobs when to much for the transits. Been offered some woodland thinning work on an estate and wondering about a crane and trailer, but would you guys recommend a swivel seat tractor for this such as a valtra that is designed more for this work. Need to have a front loader and keep three point linkage free for other stuff. Are the n series valtras any good, and does anyone know a company that make a tipping trailer you can put a three point linkage timber crane on. Thanks for any advice. 7. Hi Johny, did you try the new ranger at all, as i am currently stuck between getting the new ranger or d max. both seem fairly similar on spec, and like both of them. went on a test drive yesterday and found the d max engine a bit more noisy, and the clutch bite very late. sounds like your very pleased with yours though, perhaps i should give the d max another go in case i tried a duff one. cheers. Peter
  8. we have found the same at two jobs, customer said it started near the base of hedge and then expanded up in an ever increasing circle. leaves died, but stems and buds still green. photo is after we cut hedge last week, does not seem specific to individual plants, has spread as if it was all one plant. top of hedge still green as are the sides and top either way. sorry the photo not great!
