  1. Bastard parasites. How do we afford it?
  2. The prices have been artificially low for years, not artificially high.
  3. Your maths is what doesn’t make sense to me. You’re 30% cheaper because you aren’t insured. I’m starting a £3k job on Monday that will take 3 days. You would presumably charge about £2k? That’s a grand you could have put towards insurance. Mine is about £2k annually. So 2 jobs like that you could be insured and legit. (You couldn’t do the job anyway, access is through a school, and surprisingly enough they asked to see insurance documentation, the bastards).
  4. But you’re the intelligent one pursuing bargain basement work for lowballing shitkickers? Definitely each to their own. I’ll stay as I am thanks.
  5. I can, sort of, appreciate the sentiment Hedge Mong. A while back there were loads of freelance climbers ‘with their own insurance’. Complete BS, insurers happy to take the money, but they would never have paid out. What you’re saying is a bit different though. You can answer my or Steve’s comments about EL being a legal requirement any time you like. Why would you want to work for the lowest quote wins tyrekickers anyway? What’s next? Work without a lid because it will save you £100? Have a word with yourself. Most of us on here are pros with pride in our work and standards, not here to facilitate Karen from Facebook ‘Large tree need gone, £50 cash waiting’.
  6. Do you honestly think insurance is 30% of your turnover? You must do about 3 jobs a year. EL is a legal requirement. Fair enough you don’t need it if you work on your own, but then you’re not doing real tree work are you?
  7. What is your go-to top handle at the moment Don?
  8. Joking aside mate. you seem to have it sussed. Pretty sure it was Tom D on here who quoted that diesel was cheaper than sweat.
  9. I wasn’t sure about you at first Mick, but I’ve been on Arbtalk since the early days, and that’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me. Your confidence in my continued success gives me hope.
  10. Gays. I will climb until I die.
  11. That would be a great price for that machine.
  12. Judging by the amount of machinery and tool thefts recently I’d guess they’re fairly low.
  13. Rated at 350kg I think, I was looking at them before I went for the WQ because of the narrow access. And because someone (possibly you Reuben!) warned me that, because I’m basically idle, I would suffer from ‘arse stuck to the seat’ syndrome.
  14. @Gray git will be too far north for you Ben, but may know of someone closer.
  15. I’m in France at the minute Dan. Trying to avoid Mick’s departement in case he insists we do lunch.
  16. Thanks for having the courage to post all this. We can all learn something from this I’m sure. The pictures are horrific, but the progress you have made is fantastic. Best of luck with the ongoing recovery, and for the future in general!
  17. Ridiculous decision Mick. What were they thinking of?
  18. Indeed they were. All thanks to that idiot Gordon Jackson.
  19. Pretty much what I use, but the bigger saw is a 660 with a 25. 550 wherever possible though, it’s so light and snappy. If we’re into a lot of heavier stuff the 500 and 462 get through a fair bit of work, running 20”.
  20. The ramblings of a drunken man turn out to be one of the most accurate posts on here. The sad reality is that even if we bend over backwards and become completely eco friendly, green, carbon neutral vegans it won’t make any difference because the Chinese, Indians, Yanks and Russians don’t give a shit.
