This would be a great idea if it worked. Following with interest. There’s loads on the internet for as little as £35, but they might be utter rubbish! For me it would be something I’d take on and off as the day demanded, not leave in situ most of the time.

I thought that, but it’s way more. Packs down to a short, fat flask, it’s tiny. Boils enough for for 3 brews in about 2 minutes.

Stanley flasks are good Jake, I’ve had them years. Treat yourself to a Jetboil for Christmas though, If you need a hot drink, you need a hot drink, cover the bases!

That kicks the arse out of it a bit, you’ll probably get 2 bags out of a tonne, but that’s £45/bag before you cut, split, season and deliver. Can you not just do softwood?

A tractor mounted machine is certainly productive, but what would put me off in your situation is the haulage you’ve described above and the fact you wouldn’t get it in to every job.

Thanks Jules, and everyone else. It would seem a lot more logical if they had requested a removal, but this spec seems ridiculous, and smacks of yet another delaying tactic.

That is pretty incredible Joe! I’ve always explained to people that the prize for letting a tree get into an unclimbable state is to have it straight felled in the cheapest direction. They rarely get like this overnight.

I do the bisexual zigzag/chicane thing already with one splice. I had a rope years ago with splices both ends and it ended up a bunchy mess in the middle because you couldn’t milk it properly. Modern ropes may be much better, of course. Splices like that on the Petzl Flow will pass through the zigzag.
