  1. I think a lot of it is due to experience on the species and time of pruning. After doing it for years, I can look back at different trees I've reduced and see how they have responded. Some look bad, some look really bad, and some are dead. You just can't get experience like that overnight.
  2. Thanks fellas, really appreciated. Literally the hardest decision I've ever had to make, albeit the right one. Took her for a last walk in the woods yesterday. Nice steady bongle around in the sunshine and bluebells, then cooked her bacon and eggs. I was cuddling her as she went to sleep, so was Ruth. I couldn't have wished for a better friend.
  3. RIP Dutchie. 21/05/07-02/05/19
  4. What happens if the replacement tree isn't 75mm dia or greater though? Would the conditions for the replant simply include that it would have to be?
  5. There is that Steve. I’ll be calling them today for a chat about how we proceed when I get a new machine. Apart from the crossed wires on the value of the chipper the service from Arborisk has been excellent.
  6. They haven't taken enough off, obviously. I would have given it a damn good crowning, and limbed it up a bit.
  7. Thanks Gareth. I'm due in on Wednesday to pick the machine up, hopefully they'll be in by then!
  8. Bartlett’s (Arborisk) are underwritten by Aviva, and they paid out quickly when my chipper was nicked recently. The problem was they paid out £7.5k, which is what I paid for it, rather than £13k, which is the cost of a new one, even though I was paying for a reinstatement (new for old) policy. Check the small print! Also good advice from monkeybusiness above re underinsurance.
  9. This is a non-issue mostly, and I tend to agree with Forestboy. We do loads of conny hedges with ash, elder and bramble sticking out - the whole lot gets levelled. There’s a really simple trick here - you talk about it when you’re quoting.
  10. Glad you got sorted mate. I went payment due on receipt of invoice years ago, and I make a point of mentioning that at quote stage. If they get funny then it’s always a sign. Giving domestic customers 14 days just gives them 14 days before they start messing. Most people are dead straight, they’ll tell me if they can’t afford the job because of holidays, new car or whatever, and we’ll arrange to do it when they can.
  11. Well I’ve beaten him to it anyway. To be fair Vesp, I would probably have left it as well....
  12. Aye Vesp, get some pics up. It’s the only way we can put this one to bed. Who knows, 99% of us might agree with you.
  13. I’ve got chains as well. This Bulldog is the lock that fit the 125. I could always swap the coupling out for this Bradley as well. I’m not a big fan of the tinny Alko one the 160 comes with tbh.
  14. Can anyone recommend a hitch lock that will lock a Timberwolf TW160 on to a tow hitch and security post? I'm pretty sure my Bulldog (box type) one won't fit because of the handle design, which I didn't have on my TW125. Thanks.
  15. I’ll avoid flying into there for a while then. I expect you’ll supply them with some previously recorded cctv footage of perfectly clean, unblocked drains after spending a week asleep in your van and billing them £6k.
  16. Have these trees got wires at the top of them?
  17. Forecast is cloudy and 14 deg at the minute, which should help. I don’t really do charity, but I’ll give you a fiver if you go sub 4. Fair play to you mate, it’s a hell of an effort. I did a mile once at an athletics track in the same + harness and wanted to die.
  18. I can’t believe you didn’t pay them for the chip. No wonder they left in a huff you tight bastard.
  19. Reported to Admin for cyber bulling. Enjoy your ban.
  20. I think Dan summed it up best earlier. If the winch is pulling 3t at the point where the rope is in contact with the tree, it’s pulling 3t, however the forces spread out in the tree.
  21. See Tim, we were both right! I must admit when we were pulling some big leaning pops over beside a caravan park each tree was climbed and the wire chokers placed round the stem at exactly the point directed by the bloke with the 35 tonne winch. No margin for error or snap outs.
