  1. I used to think like you I C Trees,so we took on an employee 2 years ago.We parted company this week.I will use subbies from now on,employees cost too much! You'll find that you can't compete on the smaller jobs because your employee takes a fair chunk of the profit.
  2. As stevie said Htb.Thats how i would price it.Sounds like a decent job if you've nothing to get rid of.Can you say where the job is,me jist being nosey:001_smile:
  3. No i don't mind doing that kind of work now and again because its what i came from.I think everybody learning should have a go because where else can you learn to fell without worrying about hitting any targets. The rate used to be less up here but it's gone up due to lack of decent guys.
  4. Great shots, especially the first one.
  5. Cleared our road this afternoon with the igland.Ready for the next lot!
  6. £125/day for brashing and felling big edge trees?! I'd happily do it for less than that, where do I sign? You shouldn't have to do it for less than that if your experienced and have the gear and an ''idea'',i wouldn't.It's supply and demand up here, there's not many guys that can do that sort of work now, they're either retired or in a cab.
  7. I've had an 18'' on my 372 for ages now.I think the tip on a pro-lite would have gone by now.Not sure about the roll-o-matic though, sorry.
  8. As the title suggests.
  9. We used to count up the pieces after every time we stacked. You can expect £125 a day for cutting in front of a harvester up here(8 hrs) for an experienced cutter of which there are fewer and fewer.£14per tonne for pulp LOG BARON,prices must have gone up since i stopped cuttin in '91,we were getting £10 for first thinings.
  10. I'd say if you had your own kit and 2 years experience you'd be fair enough at £100 a day.I'd rather pay a bit more to get someone decent.
  11. Tow bars can be wonderful things!:001_smile:I reversed into a metro once and caused £600 worth of damage and none to my golf because of the tow bar.
  12. Had a MEWP frozen to our flatbed too. After a bit of headscratching we decided to lift it off the trailer with all four legs, got some funny looks but it worked a treat.I guess some commercial felling would be a good thing for this weather rossj, thats what i'd be doing if we'd no firewood to do.
  13. Right on andy.Thank you for the chance to join. It's been great knowing that somebody else somewhere could have the same problem and theres more than one solution to it.So much to learn on here too.Must admit i tended to avoid the computer before ARBTALK.
  14. Have you tried saptec martyn?Needed mine in sharpish too.Phoned them up and within 2 days i had one on demo which they left with me and we later bought. They're bound to be on your doorstep, ask for mike.
  15. Agree with you there on the small D's especially the side ones.
  16. My last pair were stein's.Only complaint was they didn't last long enough.Soles wear very quickly an make them very slippy. You get what you pay for.
  17. Been a fair bit here,1 and a half to 2 feet.Good job it's not been windy coz it's jist ready to blow with all that frost!I daresay there's been alot of snap up your way, there a few waiting to break roadside here too. They say theres more coming on tues, wed.I feel like driving a harvester or somethin for a week! It's looking like we'll have to do some dismantles and then go back when the snow's gone to tidy up!PITA:thumbdown:
  18. Get that too matt, and also can't wait to get on and finish all last years jobs after the hols. But this snow after 3 weeks is getting to be a bit of a pain.Happy new year to you all,may it be a prosperous qand safe one.
  19. i like my treemagic, been using it 4 years now.Bit of a pain to get right adjustment for a start, but the same with any new harness i'd say.Plenty attachment points for bits an bobs.
  20. Seems to me guys that a firewood processor,no matter what size it is,is only as good as the wood your putting through it!That wood is straight in the pic,try putting a bent bit through and leaving it unattended!
  21. Your a better man than me matt for workin in that.I'll be down at the firewood yard processing away when it's like that.Plenty other fine days for that kind of work, have put off a big job myself due to the weather this week.
  22. Took only one today. We've been busy as usual but not with the ''can you deliver before xmas'' thing like last year.We only cut to order and it really p's me off when people ask for seasoned wood at this time of the year.''last minute firewood.com'',talk about leaving it a bit late, they should buy it in the summer.
  23. Best wishes to the three of you matt.Hope the head wasn't too sore on sunday morning.
  24. You get a little demo brace with it,so just copy it.By little i mean about the length of your hand.
