  1. I had a kesla on order from jim but i cancelled it for the botex instead.Wilsons were alot cheaper matt and they could supply it sooner as i needed it in a hurry.I think the roof mount is a better option though because you've still got the crane to move stuff out the way or stack when your winching.Good luck with your search and hope you get something as trusty as ours has been:001_smile:
  2. Does this mean I won't have to pay for my teeny advert????
  3. They've no half jumped in price!i bought one nearly 3 years ago at 5k!Sold it 6 months later because i never used it.I found there was alot of waste when splitting hardwood, good on big softwood though.
  4. a article i read a while back on rope longevity showed that a rope that had not been used nor been left in sunlight i.e stored correctly, lost up to 40 % of its strength over 12 month period, without any use what so ever, sobering thought really I'll say!!

  10. i weigh 15stone and climb om yale fire 13mm with 8mm cord,3 and 3 works well for me but on my new england fly i need same as you FRANK 4 AND 3,
  11. Very true frank,it has it's disadvantages but then very quickly you learn them and subsequently avoid them.I've converted 3 climbers to it now and have told them the disadvantages before the advantages and they through learning how to use it with that knowledge would never go back to the ''prussic''
  12. One night last week i noticed this pick up and today i noticed something odd about the transit and trailer, when we passed it the mystery was solved. The trailer was attached to the towing eye with a shackle!
  13. Noticed the rim sprocket on my 880 was past it today. It had taken the bottom off all the drive links,as they do when they're worn. It's the original rim and i just thought it didn't last very long,is that due to the size of the saw and the work it's doing?Anybody else had the same thing?
  14. Good old TJ1210.Good work horse in they're day. What did you pay for her if it's not being nosey?
  15. He didn't urea the stumps no.Don't think they're re planting so not such an issue.Your right tom but they'll not be able to get up to any mischief in the woods now!
  16. Cheers guys. It's a funny thing as it was one of those jobs that's been on the go for ages and i wasn't really looking forward to it but once we started it i really enjoyed it.Worked out at 40tonne i think.Would've taken alot longer with saws for sure.Great to have a mate to help you out with his harvester.

    free labour

Big trees-big cheque-bigger overheads.Surely big trees are not the be all and end all,you can make just as much doing 2 small jobs in a day and have a change of scenery.Done plenty big trees myself but i wouldn't want someone with a gung ho thrill seeker attitude on one of my jobs either.
  20. We have approx 100tonne of mixed hardwood-beech,elm,chestnut and sycamore in 2.5-3m lengths at roadside in east aberdeenshire. It is all of mixed diameter. There is another 75-100tonnes(approx) of purely beech to be felled and extracted. If anyone is interested please pm me

    Bottle jacks

I see what you mean!I bet they're up to the job though!cheers:001_smile:
  22. I was felling some elms this week on a cut and skid to roadside job.Rather than use hi-lift wedges or pull them over with the winch i took them over with a 20tonne bottle jack.I found this alot easier on the operator ie. me,but on a couple of the larger leaning trees the jack struggled a bit.Does anyone know of a purpose built system that would be better(like they use in heli-loggers)or would i just invest in a larger capacity bottle jack.
  23. Thanks Mozza, he is home now and sleeping, he said it is a spinal concussion which has a quicker recovery than a head concussion
  24. Having just left my hubi in hosp last night, I think you should go for the brightest hi viz you can. He was in wrong place wrong time got hit by clog coming from 15feet on back of his shoulder which knocked his helmet off, knocked him to the ground, and was knocked out for a second, he has concussion. The climber did see him at the last second but had let the clog go. A helmet with a chin strap would have avoided him being knocked out. What is a little heat to all the worry you give everyone when you land in hospital.
  25. Have you tried BALVENIE Ian H?I'd recommend it,verrrrry nice dram.
