  1. Always a great person to talk to with a problem, have a great retirement mac.
  2. I agree simon but jonny has been there man and boy with 5 staff on etc etc and in reality is now semi retired so it suits him personally which is fair enough.
  3. No problem with mine on 70 hrs.
  4. And it does happen, with the government trying to cut back all the time this sort of thing will be getting targeted more . It just ain't worth it for a few customers who think you can just turn VAT off when you feel like it!
  5. Lol I did think that, really wants to be behind a 6.2t at least.
  6. Nice set up there. Wouldn't want to be pushing that chipper around!
  7. No I don't buy duty free. Depends what your take on legal tax avoidance is, ask hmrc and it will be totally different to a politicians take on it! I ain't got all arsey about tax, we were discussing vat and running 2 businesses that's all.
  8. Seems to be ok, I keep hooking a big one lol
  9. Me neither, it's like re inventing the wheel.
  10. I was winding you up old boy!
  11. Tax dodge! You know what we mean, firms basically just running 2 sets of books for one business.
  12. Thats ok then but most who do it don't run like that, that's what I was getting at. I know of 2 firms local (not arb) who offer no vat for domestic and + vat all in the same name, same building etc etc.
  13. I would be v weary, if that were the case every business would run a vat/ non vat side.
  14. Because your using the same equipment for both "businesses " so basically a tax dodge unless you run separate tools etc etc.
  15. An easy way to land in deep poo when the powers that be find out. It takes time to get your head round it simon but hang in there, you say domestics don't like paying vat, but we all pay it on pretty much everything but we don't know it, fuel at the garden centre, b and q even some food, on domestics price a bit Keane but build the vat in and be a bit tough, business is a tough game. There's plenty of contractors on here who are vat reg and do ok
  16. I agree also, with a tracked machine you just want the stuff through sod 5"logs it ain't worth the hassle, also get the biggest machine you can warrent, it not about chipping just timber it's the brashy stuff that takes time and effort.
  17. Pretty much it Mr Block! The price people work for in this industry is sole destroying.
  18. I would re train as a plumber/plasterer etc, buy a van and basic tools and earn a good wage, you get in this industry and you will be competing with people working for peanuts and because they live the job!
  19. It is but you loose power faster, hydro heads just don't have the grunt.
  20. Yeah have had a go with one, thete ok but go to heavy and you will loose power fast, well built as all bandits are but the power loss will take it down to the equivalent of a 20 ish hp machine wich is a big loss.
  21. Am sure it's reliable enough but yeah it looks pretty naff, nylon belt tentioner, tiny little main drive pulley roller bearing as you mentioned and the small engine, no worse than the competition mind.
  22. I have had a good look round the jensen compact machine and it's v poor imo.
  23. That's the problem, it's the power loss, god knows what that vermeer is like with a 30hp petrol and hydraulic head!
