  1. Some fungi I found today: The first two images show blackened fruit bodies and the cavity 4.5m up the beech stem that they fell from. The third image is blackened fruit bodies from between buttresses of neighbouring beech Final image is black ooze from another beech in the same avenue.
  2. I would like to give it a try too please.
  3. Semantics
  4. Can of special brew and a fag.
  5. Thank you for the info Scott. If you do swap what will you swap to? Are you waiting for a particular android or mac based application to become available?
  6. Best check that the adhesive is safe to use on your climbing helmet first. Many adhesives can react with the plastic and weaken it.
  7. How much does Digiterra cost? Can't seem to find any prices on the website.
  8. Did you find someone to do your surveying Spruce Pirate? I did send you a PM.
  9. [quote=Mike Hill;592040 The groundie picked up the rope in some branches and fed it into a Vermeer 625.My Rope went suddenly taught and began to jump towards the end of the Branch I was tied into.My Prusic Jambed and I was pulled away from the Trunk about 20foot before the Chipper Stalled.I was climbing on Three Strand and it had reduced in diameter by about half. I bet you were glad it was three strand you were climbing on and not a braided rope.
  10. Some of the best work I have ever sen in the UK. Are the locals all deaf or does he have silencers on his saws?
  11. If the trees are 100 years old and have never been pollarded before then by definition reducing their crowns by 50% is not pollarding but topping or heavy crown reduction. The subsequent management of the regrowth may be approximated to pollarding assuming that it is removed on a regular cycle thus (eventually) forming pollard heads. Given that they are in good health there is no reason that they should not respond just as the other had. Weather their lives will actually be extended is grounds for debate - rather depends on future management, doesn't it?
  12. Big shots are excellent as I find you can target high branches more accurately than throwing. But there use depends on the size, species and crown structure of the tree. The location of tree is also important as I would tend not to use one close to windows, greenhouses and conservatories!
  13. I tend to agree with this as you will be setting yourself up for a fall if a claim is lodged at a later date. You could be sued for damages. If you do have the necessaries, then by all means go ahead making sure to include all the usual caveats!
  14. Do they sell hollowbraids at all at Rouses?
  15. Err what's a PTS? Just intrigued!
  16. I think Big Al might be smitten with you
  17. daveindales - that's what i first thought, but the business park is built on an old railway sidings yard, and they used to plant Black Poplars alongside the railway in the good old days. Yes, but as Daveindales states, they are rare. Make sure you check with the local authority before going ahead!
  18. Thick socks?
  19. Buckingham Classic Master Saddle and Austria Duo 3.1. Although I find the leg loops on the Duo tend to pinch and chafe in the groin. I assume this is because I have it set up wrong?
  20. Ah right. Eureka! I had visions of you stitching them like a sack of potatoes.
  21. I would never put a conifer in a tube! I think you are getting your wires crossed. I have used the large mesh guards with success in the NE of Scotland.
  22. A dead elm tree?
  23. Not entirely true. It depends on the style size of the guards. Mesh guards approx. 1m diameter and 1.2m high should work fine. They are just pricier than your standard shelters/guards.
