1. Crikey, that a good shout! Never come across a tree form before. Nice one.
2. Anyone any idea of what this is. Found in a street in Corfu!
3. Quite sad really. I have just voted for it as Tree of the Year based on how many people will have been (in)directly linked. If that makes sense. Can't help thinking a Crown Reduction and mulching treatment would prolong it's life. Really wouldn't mind getting a closer look.
4. Just for clarification, the TPO will not of been lifted just because there will be a forthcoming approval to fell. Chances are there will be requirement for re-planting a tree that will automatically be covered by the existing TPO.
5. Really enjoyed the workshop yesterday and anyone thinking about attending should book on asap. Thoroughly recommended.
6. Cheers chaps. I looked at both of those but don't think it's either. The Raywood is a slim leaf where this appears to be a totally different shape. Currently sniffing around for American cultivars of the White Ash. Fraxinus americana.
7. Cheers chaps. I looked at both of those but don't think it's either. The Raywood is a slim leaf where this appears to be a totally different shape. Oh well, back to the books.
8. Looking for help or ideas on what this young Ash cultivar(?) may be. It is from an area where there was an old tree nursery and there are many unusual varieties and cultivars. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
9. Definitely going to do the scratch test, thanks for all the advice. David, thanks also for the insight into the future, scratch and sniff through my pc monitor! the mind boggles
10. Thanks guys, also just spotted this pic with a younger version on show.
11. Phoenix regen! never heard of that before, thanks David
12. Yes, Bank Hall Bretherton in the N West. Lovely find!
13. Came across a marvelous Coat Redwood today that had blown over years ago and carried on growing. The top of the original tree appears to have layered at the end and that has also produced new trees. Marvelous! Just wondering if there's a technical name for these runners or side branches that become apically dominant? Notice the deadwood at the front which is the original rootplate. Wider view showing the 6 trees coming off the trunk, the 2 at the end are runners/suckers from the layering. View from the other side.
14. Probably really obvious but i'm struggling with this ident. Ganoderma pfeifferi where the lumpy edge has over wintered and gone red/brown? Any help appreciated.
15. I agree with this, when a LA Tree Officer receives an application for felling a TPO tree it is not his/her duty to make sure the tree is safe before determining the application! If there is no accompanied evidence to support the removal it is not required to carry out an inspection of the tree. That said, in most cases a TO will visit and inspect the tree. In modern times you might have an application dealt with by a Planning Officer that will play a straight bat, so to speak, and not validate the application without that information?. All LA's are different though.
16. Cheers Chris, as a TO myself I know all of this. The question was to the OP, is he sure that there is a TPO in place? and what was the reason for it being served? i.e, is it related to the subsidence issue. Interesting thread though.
17. This all sounds a bit odd. Why is there a TPO on a tree within the Highway. This is a council tree. They will need to carry out any proposed removal. If there is a TPO in place, you can apply to remove the tree but you will need to get permission from the land owner (the Council), which they will, probably, not give you. Have you seen the report for the alleged subsidence? Contact the Council and get something in writing.
18. It is presumed that you are talking about a 211 notice and not a TPO application?
19. Not the chicken or the egg but, I think, Beech Bark Disease and Honey Fungus. Looked at this tree yesterday and there are definite signs of BBD and the staining, I presume, is Honey Fungus coming in as a secondary pathogen. There was evidence of another Beech stump that looked as though it had been felled a good few years ago and there are many other Beech trees that are not affected with BBD. It got me thinking, why only this tree? And does anyone think differently as to the problem? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
20.
Hi Dalton Trees, sorry I don't know your name. I wonder if it possible for you to send me a copy of the draft BS 8956 Surveying Bats in Trees and Woodlands? I have been asked by Stan Irwin, a local bat consultant, if there is any way he can get hold of a copy. I run a TO group and Stan is giving a talk on Bats tomorrow. No rush but it would be appreciated. You could send it to my personal email address if possible [email protected]. Cheers and Thanks. Roland

21. 1 + 2 are Greenheart and Brazilian Cherry?
22. If the work you have done is to clear the Road or Footpath of low branches then you do not have to serve a Section 211 Notice. This can only be the minimum work to clear the road of footpath and any other works would of required a Notice.
23. One easy way to see if it's a Balsam Pop is to rub the leaves and smell your hands!!
