  3. As a normal member i dont think there is much benefit other than a couple of magazines i dont think you can use the logo or anything, its been a while since i was a member. i am a member of the ISA and prefer that. But as an approved AA contractor thats different and im sure would carry weight when pricing larger jobs.

  9. cheers for the reply mate, i might go and do it again as if you can do your own kit then it would be worth while to have it, there was also talk of it having an expiry of 5year is that true?
  10. i done the course but failed (well they tell you not yet competent) the practical but never went back to re-do it, i was told on the course you could not do your own kit and you would need someone else in the company with the ticket so you could do there kit and they do yours, Jamie i done it through SAC in Lanark.

  18. I watched a tv programme not long ago called "cowboy customers" you cant take anything you put down on the garden, as soon as you put it on the property it belongs to the client, they went into the legal loop hole that exists there were a few horror stories of guys doing extensions, drives etc and client not paying and they went back to lift the materials and got CHARGED for theft and vandalism, not many of us would not go back but it was an eye opener to think the law was on there side. i am sure that letter will do it martyn.

    Tin foil.

As long as you are not hurt Tom thats what matters, fairly crumpled it in though:thumbdown:
  21. Great thread tom, its all down to customers you want to try and get yourself a good client base that pay better money as its difficult getting £400 a day off a working man that does not make that in a week (regardless of overheads you have they dont see that) i work part time because thats what i choose to do THAT is the main reason i am self employed, i can do part time hours for a full time wage, that way i can run maintained older kit and it lasts well as it does not work too hard. For me i learned a long time ago the more i made the more i spent on replacing/renewing stuff i already had, everyone is different and its about finding the place you are happy and content in but not complacent and always be ready to shift and move with the times.
  22. Joe,if you are on a budget dont bother with a van get a 2 door diesel car and colour code the side windows out with vinyl, get the back window sign written, fold the back seats forward and make a big box that goes in the back for carrying your gear, insure it as a car miles cheaper.
  23. Thats a great price mate, i have just returned from homebase and they are selling bags of logs at £6.95 each they are stacked right at the till and the guy on the till tells me thats the second pallet today!!!!
  24. Thats a good idea stevie, but how do you know its like a wig? you have put that on your head and pranced about a garden once eh? pictures please:biggrin:
  25. Good job mate
