  1. Part time Landscape Labour required in Huntingdon, during May. Turf and Planting Work with some fencing etc. Would suit someone trying to fill some days. Contact Bas 0784 1119956
  2. Hi all, We are looking to fill a temporary position for a general landscape / fencing operative. Work would be for approx 10 weeks begining in May. Strong possibility that this will lead to a full time position for the right candidate. We are located in Northamptonshire near Oundle. Work is in Cambs/Northants/Rutland/Beds Pay dependant on experience. If you are interested, please contact me via email: [email protected]
  3. As mentioned above, power rakes come into there own in wet conditions ( very handy over the last year ! ) they pulverise rather than chop like a rotorvator so they also work better in dry lumps than a rotorvator. On a skidsteer they definetly work better backwards, but have the ability to run in both directions ( unlike the tractor mounted ones ) which means you can do a prep run in forward and then back up for final grade, eliminating turning round at the headland or wasted journeys. If th OP wants to have look at ours working we have a few large jobs in the next month where it will be in use. ( Northants area ) send me a pm.
  4. We have had the 4ft harley rake on our Vermeer skidsteers for the past 6 years. You will never go back to rotorvating again! But you do need to be reasonably large areas to make it work well. As for moving soil, we have done up to 80 tonne a day with the s800tx from roadside to back garden 50-60 m round trip. One operator. And levelled and prepped for turf.
  5. We use these when planting big trees: Platipus Earth Anchoring Systems - Guy Fixing System
  6. My last Hilux had 260,000 on it when i sold it to a mate a few years ago, he's still got it going well. As far as I know its only had clutch and a starter motor the whole time. Latest Hilux 60 plate is going strong at 73,000 already. Towing everyday.
  7. This whole thing about the client always being right is a myth. Just remember this, it will help. The RIGHT client is always right.
  8. Eddie, Northants area : Garden Machines; Northampton Peterborough Garden machinery ( PGM ) Peterborough And I mentioned you to my local Hire/Repair Shop he would be intrested to find out more: Oundle Spares and Repairs, speak to Andy
  9. Eddie, Get used to the filter light coming on, mine does it at 9 - 10,000 miles like clockwork has done from new ( 3 years ) 60,000 miles always serviced roughly every 10,000 with new filters ( toyota ) but light still comes on. I have tried the drain plug on the filter to see if there actually was any water build up. I think the sensor in them is just too sensitive. Recently did 3000 miles with the light on with no problems as it came on at 8,000 past last service. Bas
  10. We occasionally lift big trees with the avant 635, 1.5 tonne plus, like Deans machine it has foam filled tires and big counter weights, only downside being with no attachements on the front it can tend to wheelie for no reason:001_smile: The Vermeer mini skid cannot lift as much being abit tippy, but you can move a tonne around close to the ground with the s800tx. I do find it quite amusing that if someone mentioned a cheap Mculloch saw or homebase special they get shot down, but people are actually considering buying this little skidsteer it, knowing what we do with ours that thing would be done by 10 am and in the scrap bin by the end of the day. The tracks looks like they will fall off just going round. Also there would be no chance of getting it onto a site as I doubt it is CE marked etc. I realise the bigger brands are an expensive proposition but in this case you really do get what you pay for.
  11. Theocus, Did you get the flail from Boxxer? I am looking for a flail for my Vermeer S800tx or a jungle buster type mower. Would be grateful if you could PM me cost and where you got it from. Thanks Bas
  12. Your best bet for tha kind of distance is someone like EVE trackway or Marwood rental. Trakway Systems - Products - Eve TrakMat Systems & All Weather Access
  13. Yep, in Cambs
  14. Need some Air spade work undertaking in Huntingdon on a development site if any one is interested. PM me. Thanks Bas
  15. Ground Control is a big nationwide facilities management co. they bought out UPM tilhill landscaping/tree division last year, so they are doing alot of line clearance work now.
  16. You should manage that no problem, helps if you swap around abit to break up the repetitive motion. learn to use your feet as spacers and you will fly along.
  17. When we have loads to go at and can get materials close to planting site by vehicle we aim to do an average of 1000 per day for 2 man crew. One plants the other canes and spirals.
  18. I am flying Air New Zealand for most of the reasons mentioned above. Cheap flight are hell! I have done enough of them in the past that I would now rather pay more to get somwhere and treat it as part of the holiday rather than just a journey. If budgets are tight you got to do whatever suits, but for an extra £ 200 or so you will be amazed at the difference.
  19. As above, take a stopover, it makes a world of difference. I am flying just before christmas, stopping in Tokyo on the way over and LA on the way back. Flights are nearly same cost as going straight through, so only additional cost is hotel and travel to and from airports. Treat it as part of your trip, pick somwhere you always wanted to see and spend 24 hours looking around, take a shower and a sleep and carry on. You will feel so much better for it when you get there and will be in the swing of things sooner. First time i went overseas years ago I flew to Oz on a really cheap ticket, it took 39hrs with stops and flight changes, I needed a week to recover when I got there. Never again!
  20. Just wondering if anyone can give me some costs for installing protective fencing to BS 5837. Scaffold frame with heras panels wired to it. Will be onsite for 6 + months and total quantity of 340m A rough idea of cost per m installed would be great at this point. Need to compile a budget for an upcoming project, we do lots of fencing but have not done to this spec before. Many thanks in advance. P.M. if you prefer. Bas
  21. New scheme being introduced by BALI called LISS: land based industry skills scheme. I think its no different to basic CSCS but allows you to add specific skills to the card as you gain them. CSCS as stated above is simple touch screen test for health and safety, you can still get this and just put Labourer on the forms, most sites don't care what it says as long as you have one. Its just a box ticking exercise.
  22. Thanks for the reply Timbur, I am leaning towards a Stihl combi, but open to others. I have heard some good reports about the Echos ( especially price ) The ideas is to keep it all in our grounds maintenace van, so that we always have what is needed when we get to commercial sites on monthly visits.
  23. Evening All, I am in the market for a Combi system for general landscape duties. Looking at hedge cutter, bed edger, pole saw and possible cultivator. Anyone care to give some feedback on the various options i.e. Stihl, Echo or Husky and any pros and cons. Many thanks.
  24. As above try Alba Trees near Edinborough, or if you are higher up Christie Elite Nurseries Near Elgin. Both produce millions of trees per year, so even if they dont have big enough stock, they will be able to point you in the right direction.
  25. I am looking for a forestry mulcher for one, or possibly two days to clear a site in East Northamptonshire, mainly self seeded hawthorn, bramble etc, not very dense max 4m high, also will need to clear remenants of hedge row after we have removed larger trees etc. Anyone interested can pm details and day rate, Many thanks
