  1. Paslode do supply a cold weather gas cartridge for the im350, it make them work better in the cold. Problem is getting hold of them, not many suppliers stock them. I just bought the new im90 which works down to -20 due thanks to a new gas injection system. put about 10,000 nails through it this week ( closeboard fencing ) not one problem. Very happy. Gun is much better balanced too which helps with operator fatigue.
  2. Hi all, Looking for additional planters for upcoming Landscape project in Kettering. Week begining 20th Feb, 5 days. 8.a.m Start Bare root, and containerised shrubs. P.M. me If you are interested.
  3. I have had a Vermeer s600tx for 5 years now. Its been the best investment I have ever made for the business, dispite a few problems with the machine it has saved 100's of man hours. And 1000 's in wages. Some days it will only work for 20 min and save a days labour. I am upgrading soon, so this one will be on Arbtrader in a couple of months. Going for the 35 hp model, which will run the trencher and powerake better.
  4. Tommer, Your friend needs to ask for use class 4 timber (UC4) this is usually a redwood timber that is Kiln dried before treatment, allowing the chemicals to penetrate much deeper into the stake. Most suppliers should offer this now, many give 15 - 25 years guarantee. He should expect to pay a premium of around 25% over regular timber, but its well worth it. If you cut a regular treated stake and a UC4 timber in half to compare, it becomes obvious that they are different products. The other option would be Micronized timber ( copper treatment ) but this is more suited to playground construction as the treatment is non harmful. Hope this Helps
  5. Bump!
  6. Could do with an extra pair of hands tomorrow ( thurs ) job in Banbury laying turf. Big site, forklift etc, so not too hard just lots of it! Send me a PM
  7. Hi all, We are looking to take on another Landscape operative to help with current workload, position is temporary for 3 months but could become permanent for the right person. Works are quite varied, but includes large commercial planting schemes and fencing projects. We are based near Oundle in Northamptonshire, you would be required to get to the yard for 7 a.m. Upcoming larger projects are located in Cambridge, Banbury and Kettering so travel is involved. P.m. me if you have any questions
  8. Sounds Ok to me mate. Just renewd the Hilux with NFU again £850 ! cheapest I could get.
  9. Thanks for the response. Got it sorted now. Regards Bas
  10. Hey Guys, Anyone near Harston who can dismantle a wind blown ash in Harston asap. The tree was dead and heavy with ivy, client was warned last year it needed to come down! P.M. me for details, all debris from site and stump ground.
  11. Gareth, If you try calling the number that deals with CIS you will never get anyone to pick up, I tried for weeks last year when chasing money that was overpaid. They will only correspond via letter, which incidentally also takes weeks! Its very frustrating but nothing you can do about it.
  12. I have the same problem. Only solution i came up with is to start a spreadsheet at the begining of the year and enter the details on every cert or payment receipt as they come in. I also do the same for any retentions due on jobs, these are logged at the same time and then a reminder is filed for the day they become due. Forget getting any info from the revenue, they are so disorganized with back logs on CIS its a joke every year the refund gets later and later.
  13. We use them when required, as suggested by others a cheaper alternative is to use a £ 10 4m long ratchet strap and a couple of pegs driven in deep at the base of the hole. All depends on ground conditions and tree type. I would say that you should be OK with m/s betula, they don't have as much leverage as a 4m tall standard tree.
  14. How about suggesting that the hedge is replaced at the end of the contract with a new insta hedge, these are grown in 1m long troughs, they do a native mix that you can purchase at 2m high. Instant Hedges | Instant Hedging | Evergreen Hedge | Green Screen InstaHedge projects | Hedges, boundary solutions and fencing If you explain the cost of digging up and maintaining the plants for a year, replanting, then maintaining them, plus the failure rate will add up to quite a sum. The idea of spending on a new hedge that is already mature might be the better option. ( we have done several of these hedges, they average about £ 100 - £ 120 per m ) People are trying to save costs all the time, especially in the construction game, but they sometimes need to be educated, what they feel will be a saving is actually going to end up costing the same or more. I had one client recentley who wanted us to lift and store the turf from a school playing field for 8 months whilst they built an extension, when I explained to him the logisitcs of it and the probable double cost to new turf at the end of the job he soon changed his mind.
  15. Here are a few: Knaack LLC - Jobsite Storage Chests Sentribox Jobox Tool Boxes, Storage Boxes, Piano Boxes and Storage Chests I have a large Knaack box 7' x 3' x 2' it works well, sometimes leave on site with digger bucket on top for additional security. Also have some large sections of steel that go in the bottom making it impossible to lift without machinery.
  16. Borers are excellent for tree pits, we have varios augers upto 90cm for tree planting. Very quick, leave the soil nice and crumbled for backfilling, you can add compost and fert easily to the back fill and distribute it evenly rather than big lumps of soil from a digger bucket. Some schools of thought say that the smooth sides of a drilled hole create problems with root circling, have not found this to be much of an issue except possibly in heavy clays, however it is still easier to over drill the hole and then rough up the side with a spade than dig conventionally.
  17. Kubota and Tackeuchi both good little machines. Have you thought about how much you would use it? The reason I ask is that I have never been able to justify owning a mini excavator, and we use them often enough. They are so ridiculously cheap to rent. Why not save up the jobs, get a machine in for a week, do the work ( you can even get a larger machine for bigger jobs when needed like pond digging etc. ) I pay around £ 160 a week for 1.5 tonner plus fuel and £ 190 for 3 tonner, no worries about it standing and being nicked no servicing, something goes wrong they fix or bring another. Easy. ( these rates are from a nationwide plant hire firm ) I know its nice having kit, but the sums have to work out to justify it.
  18. I would get one, for the odd cell planting job we get. I looked back through the records and found the quote I got from BCC its from 2007 and was for 10 units £ 108 euro each plus shipping. I have no idea what that would equate to now as the euro has devalued quite a lot in the past 4 years.
  19. I looked into buying some a few years ago for big planting job. From memory they were £80 quid each, not so bad, but the minimum order was 10! Here is some info and manufacturers details: http://www.bccab.com/BCC/files/Pottiputki_2009.pdf
  20. Steve, that doesnt work, after a minute or so the alarm sets, then as soon as a gust of wind or rain drop enters the cab through the open window the alarm goes off! Hence the adjustments:001_smile: I must add that the reason the alarm triggers is because the sensor for the key in ignition beeper has been disabled, because if you wanted the radio on without the engine running it would just beep constantly driving you mad. The seat belt warning is an easy fix, it can be disabled using the odo button without affecting airbags etc, I do alot of driving on private tracks woods etc, and used to hate the seatbelt chime going off when you are going about 200m at 5 mph!
  21. Joe, Drop me a P.M. when you get fed up with the seat belt warning and the key in the ignition beeper. Very annoying when you want to have the door open and listen to the radio whilst working. Its a simple fix, that can be easily reversed when you want to sell.
  22. Aaron, I have run a vermeer s600tx for the last five years, cannot imagine landscaping or fencing without one now. Small enough to get in most places, easy to tow. And most importantly never gets tired! They are expensive, and to utilise them fully you need a few different attachements, but in the long run they do pay. Examples of what we have done in a day with ours include drilling over 100 fence post holes and mixing concrete and setting posts. Moved 80 ton of topsoil into a back garden, just yesterday we loaded 40 cube of mulch into trailers for distribution around site. Once you have one, your business will become much more efficient and you will be less tired, because lots of physical tasks can be undertaken by machine instead. As for brands, I think you need to demo various and see how you get on.
  23. Thanks for the feedback people. Seems I am probably on the low side, so can afford to add a higher margin. Fenland, that seems like what I should be aiming at. Thanks. We still made reasonable cash on the lower rate, but had the feeling it was underbid. Materials are around £16 per m incl concrete and fixings ( readymix to site ) 2 man crew averaging about 50 - 60 m per day ( machine augured holes ) Domestic rates don't transfer to the commercial jobs unfortunatly, but it would be great to get £40 + per m:001_smile:
  24. The last few jobs of this size have been £ 27.00 ish per l/m
  25. Need some prices guys, We have done some larger commercial fencing jobs this year, made ok money but have the feeling we were abit too cheap. I hate the fact that we prob left some money on the table. Got to price another one, 600m, 1.8m high, 2.4m post centres, featheredge on 100mm x 100mm posts and cant rails. Reasonable access, long runs and flat ground. Anyone do this type of fencing mind sharing a ballpark meterage rate? I know what my price needs to be to make it work, but if I can get another pound per meter or more it adds up on these bigger distances! Many Thanks in advance.
