  1. 750kg. As you disco will have a MAM over 2750kg
  2. This is an often misquoted bit of the guidance. The 8250kg is for the C1E 107 restricted licence. The pre 97 BE actually has NO LIMIT on trailer plate weight. However lots of other regs will apply like active brakes over 3500kg etc etc.
  3. Old Mondeo about 2000kg MAM so a trailer plated to 1500kg.
  4. First problem is your Discovery is not 2.5 tonnes. What is it legal maximum? Top number on weight plate or section F1 on the V5c?
  5. Pps brakes are not part of the conditions of towing with a B licence. So thats two errors in your reading of the gov site already
  6. Thats OK if you understand what it says. I get loads that have done just that but then misunderstand & drive an illegal combination. PS you can possibly tow MORE than 750kg Poss even more than double that amount with the right vehicle.
  7. Do not use a drop plate to raise the height. Its illegal & dangerous. To those that say the forces are the same, you are wrong. The issue is not the plates integrity. If you cant see the forces are applied differently then you should not be giving advice. When dropping the force on the towbar is UP to the chassis. When raising the height it is to pull the towbar away from the chassis. The bolts create friction between bar & chassis. stretching the bolts reduces this friction. Bars are heavily tested & only approved alterations (inc fitment & attachments) can be made to them. Not even all bars can have a drop plate fitted. I ask you this question. When using a felling lever do you lift or lower the bar to create the forces you require? Does it matter?
  8. If taking this option alterations to the main body/chassis/brakes/lights etc will bring you back into scope of the IVA. Also as you still need to comply with the full IVA regs anyway to comply with C&U regs why side step an independent check on your safety?
  9. Thinking of upgrading or changing your trailer or vehicle? If your not sure if your combination is legal on a cat B licence then use this handy guide. https://www.facebook.com/TrailerTrainingCymru/posts/2177495702510724
  10. read the IVA testers manual.
  11. They know its not due to the combined axle weights. Yes sadly lots that should know actually don't. Especially the exemptions.
  12. Check this out. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fifth-Wheel-Mini-Artic-Gooseneck-Trailer-6m-Bed-Up-to-5300KG-Gross-Weight-on-B-E/112870394526?epid=2083339350&hash=item1a47998a9e:g:8jEAAOSwcUBYOMKd:rk:1:pf:0
  13. How did they weigh your nose weight? If not at the exact height you car ball sat at the real weight was wrong. Nose weight within limits yes. Measured nose weight in a stop? Not unless it looks crazy overloaded in its own right. Normally by the rear vehicle axle limit being over loaded. total weight is just that TOTAL. Its a fact that nose weight is an applied load & part of the towing vehicles weight not the trailer weight.
  14. They do. Its how artic's work. Its called an applied load. About 1/3rd of the weight in the artic trailer is actually applied to the vehicle. Also the same for mini artic in C1E class & mini artic / goose neck trailers in class BE. You can have a goosneck / 5th wheel set up on a pick up & the payload on the pick up is used for the applied load / nose weight. So the trailer disconnected might be as much as 5000kg. Yet its plated to 3500kg as 1500kg is applied to the pick up. If stopped you get weighed "as is". Once coupled up you are now one vehicle. The total weight & all axle weight limits will be checked.
  15. Lol its slightly off putting when the makers dont actually know how trailer weights work. Plated at 3500kg MLPM Unladen 580kg Does not leave a payload of 2920kg As you correctly spotted the nose weight becomes part of the vehicles weight so the trailer could be loaded to say 3600kg with a 100kg nose weight. Giving a real pay load of 3020kg.
  16. For 15m3 per year hire me in for one day.
  17. We charge that for one man & machine per day. Snap their arm off.
  18. I use Square. Main benefit is that you can do card holder not present transactions legally & it allows you to store details (securely) for re billing. Use this link to get your first £1k of takings free free. https://squareup.com/i/CARDONPHON
  19. I have seen a few exclude home made trailers & trailers over 85% ratio.
  20. Have you actually seen a legal doc that says they are exempt? People can in general sell anything. Its the use that is mostly illegal. Plus they can sell them as Agri legal & people use then for non agri illegally. This is what I have found re IVA. Article 2 Scope 1. This Directive applies to the type-approval of vehicles designed and constructed in one or more stages for use on the road, and of systems, components and separate technical units designed and constructed for such vehicles. It also applies to the individual approval of such vehicles. This Directive also applies to parts and equipment intended for vehicles covered by this Directive. 2. This Directive does not apply to the type-approval or individual approval of the following vehicles: (a) agricultural or forestry tractors, as defined in Directive 2003/37/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 May 2003 on type-approval of agricultural or forestry tractors, their trailers and interchangeable towed machinery, together with their systems, components and separate technical units (10) and trailers designed and constructed specifically to be towed by them; (b) quadricycles as defined in Directive 2002/24/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 March 2002 relating to the type-approval of two or three-wheel motor vehicles (11); (c) tracked vehicles. 3. Type-approval or individual approval under this Directive is optional for the following vehicles: (a) vehicles designed and constructed for use principally on construction sites or in quarries, port or airport facilities; (b) vehicles designed and constructed for use by the armed services, civil defence, fire services and forces responsible for maintaining public order; and (c) *****mobile machinery,******* (seems to offer hope but see highlighted bit below) to the extent that these vehicles fulfil the requirements of this Directive. Such optional approvals shall be without prejudice to the application of Directive 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 May 2006 on machinery (12). 16. ‘mobile machinery’ means any self-propelled vehicle which is designed and constructed specifically to perform work which, because of its construction characteristics, is not suitable for carrying passengers or for transporting goods. Machinery mounted on a motor vehicle chassis shall not be considered as mobile machinery; Quotes from here https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A32007L0046
  21. They still need parking brakes even when exempt.
  22. IVA guide https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/iva-manual-for-categories-01-02-03-and-04-trailers C&U is huge so you need to identify what you need & then search for that.
  23. Construction and use regulations. Individual Vehicle Assessment.
  24. PS even if exempt from an iva test it will still need to meet the c&u regs which are basically the same thing.
  25. The only exemption for trialed appliance I have found so far is for the brakes. I am scanning the IVA regs now.
