  1. Not completely. This is wrong provided the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle And this bit the same vehicle with an unladen weight of 1.25 tonnes and a MAM of 2 tonnes when coupled with a trailer with a MAM of 1.5 tonnes would fall within category B+E. This is because although the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer is within the 3.5 tonnes MAM limit, the MAM of the trailer is more than the unladen weight of the drawing vehicle. This bit is also wrong A test pass for subcategory C1+E upgrades subcategory D1, if held, to D1+E. C1E does not upgrade D1 to D1E, It used too but not now.
  2. True but in the first case the DVLA would be wrong & you would be driving illegally.
  3. Its easy, you are NOT legal towing that trailer.
  4. Slight mistake there...The towing vehicle would have to be plated to a mam of 900kg to make it legal to tow over 750kg with a 2600kg mam trailer Doh, yes your right teach me to post in a rush.
  5. If you ask the DVLA like this. My car weighs 2000kg & my trailer 1500kg an I ok to tow on a cat B? They will say yes. If you ask. My car weighs 2000kg but has a MAM of 2800kg & my trailer weighs 1500kg but has a MLPM of 2600kg can I tow it on a Cat B the answer will be no.
  6. MAM Not weight. Maximum Authorised Mass ie the most it is legally allowed to be even if not actually that weight.
  7. Official info direct from the gov website.
  8. Correct every one can tow 750kg plated trailers even if the car is 3500kg. As soon as the trailer is over 750kg then the max combined MAM & MLPM is 3500kg.
  9. If what your saying is true then people could drive vehicles plated to 7.5 tonnes as long as they are empty and weigh less than 3500kg. Licences use the weight plate numbers from vehicle & trailer. They do not use real weights. Real weights are used for C&U offences like over loading. This is what I do for a living & you are not legal. Your trailer is using 2600kg of your 3500kg allowance. Even when empty. You car would have to be plated to 900kg to be legal on a Cat B licence.
  10. OMG listen MAM not WEIGHT You asked the question wrong. The MAM must be 3500kg Not the weight must be 3500kg. Does your Disco have a MAM of 2000kg? What is the top number on its weight plate or the number in section F1 on the V5c?
  11. Quote from gov website. Not it says MAM not weight. Category B - if you passed your test on or after 1 January 1997 You can drive vehicles up to 3,500kg MAM with up to 8 passenger seats (with a trailer up to 750kg). You can also tow heavier trailers if the total MAM of the vehicle and trailer is not more than 3,500kg.
  12. Perhaps they have BE? Or the plate weights add up to less than 3500kg?
  13. Try calling Dvla but make sure you ask the right question as the first line help team only read the website. So if you ask am I OK with this weight they will say yes.
  14. Or you could just look at the guide here Thinking of upgrading or changing your trailer or vehicle? If your not sure if your combination is legal on a cat B licence then use this handy guide. https://www.facebook.com/TrailerTrainingCymru/posts/2177495702510724
  15. I did one a few years back
  16. Why would the HMRC know? What has tractor driving got to do with it? I said that you & the disco can only tow 750kg. With say a mondeo that has a 2000kg MAM you could tow a trailer plated to 1500kg. But still not the 2.6t loaded to 1.5t. I teach this stuff your understanding is wrong.
  17. The only legal trailer behind a Disco with a Cat B licence is a 750kg plated one. You can not use a heavier but empty one.
  18. Your disco has a plate weigh much higher than 2 tonne. More like 2.8 tonnes ish. Your trailer is plated to 2.6 tonnes For a cat B licence your legally used weight is over 4600kg & poss as much as 5.4 tonnes. Even if EMPTY the max weight is used for licences. Please show me what changes they made in 2004 as I dont know of any. The change you are talking about is for C&U offences of being over loaded & I dont think that happened in 2004 & was never a change just a clarification. C& U offences use real weights. Licences use maximum potential weights. When did you pass your car test / do you have a BE licence?
  19. You seem to be using the wrong weights to see if you are legal on a cat B licence. With a Cat B & a disco the only trailer you can tow is a 750kg plated one.
  20. Then just get a 750kg un braked one & dont load it to over 500kg.
  21. You can use a heavier plated trailer. The GTW is limited by real weight unlike licences that use plate weights.
  22. Doh I knew that as well.
  23. Has the price dropped yet?
  24. Why not go BE 5th wheel? Costly to set up but far more capacity on the trailer.
