  6. Tino (cornish refer)will buy any western red i understand as he makes shingles
  7. Nice one. Like the cord thru the wedges, great idea that i'll be nicking !
  8. Personally i thought it was rubbish. And the hooting and hollering is very very dull.
  9. What about using a landie John. Pulled loads with mine and if you set up a 2:1 you could pull shed loads. Much faster than a chipper = more profit. I've seen a nice disco for sale on Arbtalk:001_smile: Chain is always better for dragging or use old bits of rope. They will be buggered pretty quick though. Ive got 20m of wire rope you could borrow if u like.
  10. Thats the most appley oak apple ive ever seen. Looks like a Royal Gala!!
  11. Congrats! Best of luck. My groundie became a dad recently. Hes pretty tired !!!
  12. I did a tree survey and found a full set of ladies clothes rolled up in a bundle, bra, nicks the lot. Apparently it is a dogging area and the police werent interested. Then I spoke to a local resident who was very concerened as there had been a murder there some years before. WTF are the police about sometimes???
  13. Cheers all. Tommer we have 5 sections of straight oak of between 12 and 16ft. DBH is about 30" and good quality. Will need dragging out unless you can set up in the wood (its on the edge). Or we can sell in the round if your man can transport. pm me to Let me know what u think.
  14. Glad u ok mate. Big leaners are tiring at the best of times and I know the feeling of wanting to cut corners in order to finish. Had 2 moments myself today at about 10ft! Tied into some epi on a hazel hedge only to have 2 stems an inch thick peel out (rope was around both), same happened 10 mins later after i'd transferred to a holly - sprouts peeled off in my hand! Was roped up and nicely wedged in but the hazel was a bit of a surprise.
  15. Does anyone know if eucy planks very well. Think its a Eucalyptus Nitens but not too sure. Definately one of the harder eucalypts though.
  16. Definately not a comma - more of a full stop in my opinion.
  17. No probs m8. Its happy seasoning. Its a great wood there, loads of fungi and mature beech with major faults. We'll meet up there when u have time.
  18. Not quite but i've got a 70fter on the edge of a field with no target (except 2 horses) in St Austell if you're holidaying this way m8. Plenty of it to 2+m
  19. Yep i would have to concur Mr Tee. One of those situations where i may consider a cherry picker next time!
  20. Hi all thought i'd share my experiences pruning a largish pop nigra today for the benefit of all. Oddly enough i've never had the pleasure of doing a reduction on this species of fine trees before and perhaps others can benefit from my thoughts? I've laid it out in an easy 3 step method for you. 1. climb tree in normal way and establish good anchor point. 2. navigate your way through entire tree in a "lets pretend i'm actually cutting" manner. Now before i get to point out step 3 I should say that by now you will have snapped most of the smaller inner branches with the power of you breath, finger tips and droplets of sweat. This stage is vital to complete thoroughly however for the eventual completed shape of the tree. 3. Proceed using the chainsaw on whatever may be left ensuring you leave at least a few twigs behind! Be careful when topping out to aim the top away from completed branches below to avoid ruining your previous efforts from stage 2. There will conveniently be several large gaps in the crown from stage 2 you can aim for. Surprisingly it turned out alright in the end! Mines a guinness please.
  21. Chipper, unlike my chipper!
  22. I've never had a problem doorknocking if I see something dangerous or dying. Some people (as we all know) haven't got a clue and polite, friendly approaches with the attitude that winning the work is less important than alerting the owner is the arbs hippocratic oath! I've never had even a response to dropping a polite friendly card through a door in the same situation. A letter or a meeting wins the clients confidence and you the work (probably). Just don't overdo the price or they will look elsewhere.
  23. Thanks for sharing John. Theres always a light somewhere but depression robs you of the will to seek it. The only up side I ever found to taking an anti depressant was that I once walked into a mates house (slightly manic on the pills) and just leapt from standing into a headstand! Mate was impressed but rather concerned to say the least- I stopped the pills very soon after!!
  24. er No m8........tried properties, help etc etc but no luck. any pointers i'm on internet explorer 8
