  1. done the same myself with impact driver though. best advice use two guys and hand tools. one to push hard one to turn. no probs since.
  2. is there one! getting fed up of rewiring all the time, dodgy earths christmas tree light show when braking. Is there a decent wiring hook up that takes a ?bit of abuse from weather, 20 year olds etc etc.
  3. i take it thats suffolk not st neots in cornwall?
  4. cheers 4 that.
  5. have you tried splicing MB , Spectra and wire to rope. you'll need spinach in your diet if you do it daily
  6. reason being?
  7. Natural crotch rigged. Outer cover not at all frayed just a bit used and a 5 tonne BS when new. I'm just saying really that with a 10:1 safety margin that gives 500kg of SWL I think which is a reasonably large piece of wood by most standards when top roped. What did people do before loler anyway?
  8. Agreed. My ex yacht rigger boss has 20 years exp in ropes and splicing so i trust him totally on rope advice. He's got forearms like popeye which is a good sign!
  9. I will be next time peter, just lost my trust he did.
  10. I agree yorkshireman. YP crap this year cos i forgot to aaaaaa1 the ad but my sponsored link is working well enough. YP are pretty unpro and i won't bore myself with the details or you either but i'm not paying for last year but getting my groundie to advertise for us!!!. and the fact that we are a premium business means exactly as you say £££££ more. If you go YP my advice is B+W cheap or blue. Keep it simple pro and honest and it will stand out from the £1600 ad by its simplicity.
  11. Personally i think NPTC training bears no relation to actual working experience and the hole Loler stuff is aimed at the blue polypropelene brigade. I've just had two 14mm ropes failed due to excessive wear (from my arb supplier whole sells rope!) disagreed with the result and used them all day knocking out a big syccy (although it was 90% top roped i admit). No worries and they're probs more 'worn' than the day before now. The strength of MarlowBraid is in the core not the outer so as long as the outer is intact and healthy and your're not pushing whats sensible i think experience counts for more than a piece of paper. Regarding angles etc is important but again the heavy stuff is often rigged off the stem so angle is no worry.
  12. To splice marlow braid you need a big plastic mallet! Thats how yacht riggers do it to soften the outer cover - and a long splicing needle. I think the marlow catalogue has all the splices in the back. If u think MB is tough try spectra!
  13. been married since feb, looking at my pic will tell you part of the reason (although no shotgun from french policeman father in law!). A client said to me that marriage changes you.... He had been married for 30 years or more; it changes you for the better; makes you feel solid as a couple and that can only be good. There's no jealousy anymore, less selfishness and theres extra family to back you when u need it. Best wishes. I won't wish you luck i'm sure you can both make that for yourselves.
  14. I've joined two business networks; one is better than the other. If you join a Lead based network you have to supply leads as well as receive them and can be frowned upon if you don't. The other type of club allows you to get advice from other business heads and can lead to meeting those managing directors, CEO, blue chip companies. They all love having a tree surgeon in their midst as their jobs are sooo dull and i've tripled my money since joining. Also, every time i meet anyone i tell them what i do and i try to engage people in conversation that will help remind them of me. Your first and last sales strategy is yourself though; be smart say the right things and don't apologise for being slightly more expensive; you are a pro after all.
  15. bacterial wetwood can give a yeasty aroma. Found an oak surrounded by hornets recently and it smelt like home brew!
  16. You ignore the 'overshoes' your missus has nicked from the local pool and tread crap over the recently hoovered(again) floors. and say Oh yeah sorry luv - do you know where my keys are?
  17. no wonder its so dangerous out there. Where were the cookies
  18. must be my head then, kong always seemed to slop around. husky never moves. The ear muff assembly fell of in first 10 mins.
  19. chin strap? thought the ear muffs were fer keeping it on yer head. Dont buy a kong - sits about as neatly on ya head as a gorilla on a building. 85 quid wasted:thumbdown:
  20. i'm a newbie on the forum and the idea of pooling resources is a good one. We all have a lot to learn from each other and experience a wide variety of different situations across the country. How about a busmans holiday to the other end of the country or abroad? Well maybe thats ionly for the obsessed:scared1:
