  8. sort of but its a secret till i win or lose the work. the competition may be watching! basically restricted access (by law) though so not much chance of a crane or winch. At 1200+vat per hour for the heli I'm looking for a bit of background info.
  9. if i get the contract i may give you a shout! then you can say yes!
  10. anyone had any exp. of this? would love to hear details; may be needed for a future contract.
  11. Thoughts go out to the family. My guy Chris is still in a bad way - i don't think hes going to improve much for a long while yet.
  12. just bought a bt cordless telephone from currys for 15 quid. digital answer machine which is cool sounds ok has coverage of 300m apparently. Internet is on a wireless router too works well. I offered the bt guy cash to drop a line into a room and fit a box when he came to fix a line fault. Unbelievably he said no! Obviously bt pay real well thesedays.
  13. I did yoga for 8 years pretty serious about it too. If you breathe deeply and relax your body gives you space and 'finds' itself relaxing into elongation (if you know what i mean). Blokes being blokish tend to push their muscles to 'gain' a stretch (and thus congratulate themselves by being stretchier). If you touch your toes (standing forward bend) do it from fully bent leg to straight(ish) leg rather than standing up to touching toes. The best yoga book without any hindu religion is 'The spirit and practice of moving into stillness' - by Erich Schiffman. Or you could just swim!
  14. swimming is the best exercise i should think monkeyd. Less stress on the joints. If you do any stretching like yoga be gentle-most guys try too hard and end up hurting themselves. Good luck and take the time to do a new course maybe?
  15. Truth is that nobody cares until it goes wrong. All the legislation in the world is only there to prosecute you after the fact. If the HSE AA BSI ISA LA etc did care then we'd have a situation where no tree work could be done by anybody unless standards were met, checked and maintained. Just like the Rail Network around the country - mind you all the new legislation there only came about when some cowboy builders working for Railtrack left a few bolts undone and NOBODY noticed causing train derailment and multiple death. Too many people are making money out of training, legislating and not enforcing rules that the reasonably honest amongst us try to live within. Large parts of the way our country operates suck big time. Perhaps its time that those who have to live under the rules (us) did something about it?
  16. Try a pastie.
  17. Just come back from the hospital seeing Chris. There is definately life in his eyes now, seemed to recognise me as well and wanted to talk we think but still has his tracheotomy in. Bones are on the mend and his RHS is moving quite freely; able to grip with his hand, scratch his balls and rub his beard! LHS is not moving at all at the moment but hopefully next week he will be moved to a local specialist unit that will physio him and make him work a bit harder. Tracheotomy should be out next week. Still coming out of his coma though so a long road ahead but I was amazed he looked as well as he did. He has a big lump on his head (which is actually his brain) as they have still not put back his removed piece of skull yet. There is some hope he may be able to come home for xmas for a few days - familiar surroundings may help him heal. I gave his partner a cheque for 1000 today and she expressed her thanks to you all for caring and being so generous. She is coping as well as expected and her work have been very helpful too. Thanks again all. Will keep you posted.
  18. I agree with the above. Get the police and hse involved, sue him for attempted theft (given he knows the boundary), the hse should also be interested especially since he has 'contracted' others to do the work and bill him for all your time. He has already offered to pay thus admitting guilt. People like that need to be taken to task.
  19. Latest on chris is hes slowly coming out of his coma. Some response to people talking but could be paralysed on left side. Lost a shed load of weight (he'll need more beer) but could be moved to a different ward next week. still has a tracheotomy fitted though (no beer!). i'm seeing him tomorrow pm so i'll let you know more then
  20. heres one courtesy of Chris Headdon. When chogging down: On over and under cuts on larger diameter chogs (that you cant break off)cut a small dip in one side ...hey presto clean break! don't know if thats been posted already but cheers chris its worth its weight.
