  1. Yeah, large-scale Biomass is BS. We're all agreed. "Impatient coal burning" - nice! Especially using fuel that's been shipped in from the other side of the world to be burnt. Makes more sense to bury local stuff in the ground, as silly as that sounds. Biomass is just a way for dumb politicians to appear to be doing something, without actually doing anything to upset the apple cart. It undoubtedly is a cash cow for some foreign based companies, (because we've allowed them to take advantage), but it also serves a critical purpose. How else is the world going to reduce CO2 emissions without substituting renewable for fossil fuel energy sources?
  2. If you establish yourself as the site fool-cum-lunatic you're bound to attract a certain amount of ridicule. So if you think China is a piss poor example, then which country would you choose for it's commitment to renewable energy sources? Bhutan is 100%, and they don't have trains, which you'd like, but they're obviously a special case so you're not allowed to pick them.
  3. If you're happy to just quit then stop whining about it all the time.
  4. Ok, nice. Thanks. Some of both then.
  5. No, not entirely, as I've not personally done the calcs. I do however have no reason to think that they're fabricated. Dot.Org sites are generally pretty trustworthy, being non-profit organisations and all that. Obviously I'd need to see a James Garvey post on LinxedIn to fully trust the figures. Interested to hear about your counter argument though. Have you got some insider information to share, some "alternative facts"? Which country is actually leading the charge when it comes to commitment to renewable energy sources? Don't tell me it's Pakistan or something!
  6. Why cubier blocks? Chainsaw or physics considerations?

    Jokes???

  8. Have you done any reading, which example do you choose? So Brazil are leading the field currently, in commitment to renewable energy sources. That was a surprise to me, probably not to you though. China ain't doing bad either, they're up there in the pelaton. We're not even on the board, the UK definitely has work to do. Share of electricity production from renewables OURWORLDINDATA.ORG Renewables include solar, wind, hydropower, bioenergy, geothermal, wave, and tidal sources.
  9. Because I said the discussion on countries's commitments to renewable energy sources was for another week, my weeks start on Monday. But again, I agree. The threat posed by China on the global stage is huge, spying on us being but one small facet. We, the rest of the world, should be putting up a united front. However, Trouser Cough doesn't agree, so they are having a field day, forging ahead with their designs whilst we stand divided. Another reason we should have our own renewable energy manufacturing industry. In the UK we have our priorities all screwed up. So much political resource and discussion is taken up by a few illegal immigrants that we forget to focus on the real issues. China, Russia, Iran and whatever other hostile states are out there, are a far greater threat to our national security than the <10% of our immigration total. It's weird.
  10. Another week At least China acknowledges that we have a problem, and is moving at pace towards addressing it. The US meanwhile, with Trouser Cough at the helm, doesn't even recognise that something is amiss.

    Foolish!
  12. I agree. I didn't say that China is in the clear. Merely showing approval of your highlighting of the nuance in the figures that is often rabidly and dogmatically missed in these debates on here. I'd contest the number one ranking on some metrics. For instance if you take into consideration their intention/trajectory of emissions or the fact that a big part of their energy consumption is to make crap that we are so desperate to buy from them. But, that's for another week.
  13. When China makes a climate pledge, the world should listen THECONVERSATION.COM Beijing has a track record of only promising what it plans to deliver. But too often the world’s attention is elsewhere.
  14. Exactly.
  15. Good call on the bogs. Open air urinals are great for festivals and other open air events. So much quicker than queing up to squeeze into tiny portacabins for a piss.

Cut the tips of first, or just prick them with a knife and they don't tend to explode I find.
  18. I can't decide whether this is a crazy idea or not. It is really, but we are unfortunately, where we are. It's a lot less crazy than doing the opposite, which is what we're currently doing. 19. So maybe we, the UK, should cash in on the renewable energy industry boom. Rather than buy it all from China. That would make much more sense than fcking around with the big AI con, that's just going to consume more power and water, that we don't have. Surely you agree? It'd be great to have some proper manufacturing in our country again. I fear we may already have missed the boat sadly.
