    Jokes???

Sorry Doug, I can't believe I was so thoughtless, should have been more aware of your trauma! I'll try to avoid all tape measure jokes in future as well.

  4. Sound proofing is about the shape, topology of the surfaces as well as materials used as far as I've seen. For instance, Richer Sounds listening rooms are lined with a layer of foam, the surface of which is formed into pyramid shapes, a couple of inches big. Also, I've seen or heard, (the irony!) somewhere that egg boxes in large quantities can be used to similar effect.
  5. What was in that trail mix exactly? Think I can see peanuts and wasabi peas. What were those little fishies, dried/salted?
  6. I would, as would anyone surely. Not wishing to get into a wanky philosophy debate but I think this might be a case of "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence". Especially in the case of an intelligent animal that doesn't want to be found so will be naturally elusive. I'm not 100% in the believer camp, as I've never seen anything irrefutable with my own eyes, but I'm certainly closer than I used to be after one experience. I hesitate to mention this as it's nowhere near hard evidence, but two of us once saw two large shapes in the dusk in a wood that were (unmistakably??) feline and large. But, the mind is a funny thing. I think deep down I want it to be true so my perception might have been tailored to fit that. What was your story?
  7. I can't claim any credit, I nicked it from Squaredy, (who disclosed it towards the start of this thread I think). I used to use AMINE, that's not quite as good though.
  8. In alignment with the consensus, they're buggered, might as well cut them down now while it's still easy to do so and they've still got some firewood value to the timber. As an alternative to stump grinding and replanting straight away, you could just leave things alone after removing the trees. Birch are prodigious self seeders, (weed tree status sometimes), and self sown plants and trees normally grow stronger and faster in my experience. You'd probably have enough seedlings to chose from so that at least a few popped up in a suitable location.
  9. I do, AUDIO. As much as I love VULVA, it's not as efficient! Maybe it's just because my brain cells are being jammed up with numbers; I've started doing Sudoku as well recently. Or maybe I'm just shit at the moment.
  10. Me too. For a month or six or even 12 maybe. After that though I'd want some other stuff like history/culture, soft green landscapes, heat, etc etc. (That said I have next to no knowledge of Greenland).

    Jokes???

Anyone would think you've got a thing about 73" mate! Better stuck in your mind than stuck somewhere else though I guess.
  12. Wordle 1,293 X/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨 ⬜🟨⬜🟨⬜ 🟨🟨⬜🟨⬜ ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟨🟩🟩⬜🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 Chose the wrong one. Don't think I've ever had such a shit run of results as this last couple of weeks.

    Jokes???

  14. That wasn't what I meant by corroboration. Kudos for taking ownership of the tedious noise anyway.
  15. Yeah, it's quite a hard, heavy, tough wood as well, so good for making tools and other functional items. This is a makeshift mallet or beetle, got a nice feel to it.
  16. That's true as well. It's great to split as well as being great to burn.
  17. Thanks for the corroboration boyo!

  19. It's nice the way that this keeps coming around every now and again. I'm currently burning mainly Hawthorne, and loving it. With some other stuff like Spruce, Blackthorn and some large woody garden shrubs mixed in, Philadelphus I think.
  20. Yeah maybe, but I'd be concerned about splitting the bar with lots of them all forced in along the same line. I've done a little research and found out a couple of tips. First, don't use Ash for the bar, (not sure the proper name), use Sycamore or Elm. I've used Ash. Second make sure the Times, (pegs), are dry seasoned and the bar is green or at least wet. So it can shrink around the times as it dries. I can't be arsed to redo it so I think I'll just drill the holes all the way though and then wedge them. Or maybe put a small nail through the side of each. Not really in keeping but hey. I quite fancy having a play and making a tine maker too, out a sharpened bit of old pipe if I've got any the right size. I found this lovely little video on my Google amble around.
  21. These weird days after Christmas are just made for pottering I think. The main part of today's potter was to make an Ash hay rake, just for the hell of it. Inspired by one of the green woodworking guys at the APF we saw. Lots of Draw Knife and Spoke Shave work to start with. Just the pegs to go now. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of making one of these? I'm unsure of how to affix the pegs without glue, it seems too much of a faff to have to wedge every one of them, 8 I think we calculated. I don't want to jam them in too tight with an interference fit in case it splits the bar.
  22. Here ya go. It's easy to miss the interesting stuff in this thread amongst all the tedious noise.
