  1. I, for one, hadn't realised quite how important a role trace elements like potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen played in determining the ecology of a habitat. Interesting.
  2. Echo that, thanks OSM.

  4. Well there you go, another school day. Thanks. This year's apparent ladybird plague has passed me by as well. Will there be another 'invasion' of 'biting' ladybirds like in the summer of 1976? | Countryfile.com WWW.COUNTRYFILE.COM Footage of swarming ladybirds across the UK has been going viral – but are there actually more of them than usual?
  5. Eh, why? Thirsty or something?
  6. I know. A truly vintage year in all respects. Some might say. 🤔
  7. 1976. I'm sure they were around in 1985, but I was posing a question to any older farts as to whether they were in widespread use then. I wasn't taking much notice at the time.
  8. Nice pun. Looks like a classic strimmer bite to me. Not sure if they were in widespread use 40 years ago though.
  9. I think you're 50 years too late for that mate. Most look like this these days.

No, I think you should persevere, and post the results up on the cooking thread. That winter stew sounds good. It was a few years ago now, but I don't remember them tasting too gamey at all. The old cliché - just tasted like chicken, but a bit more interesting.
  18. Yeah nice, so it is.

By all means. Forays should always be accommodated. A mate of mine made a Squirrel terrine once. That was pretty good. I caught and skinned them, but didn't have the patience for the somewhat tedious butchery, so he did that bit. I've an idea we needed 7 animals for it, as there's not much meat on them obviously, other than the back legs. I'd love it to be on sale in more butchers and even supermarkets. Even just as Squirrel Nuggets if the manual butchery is too big an ask.

I wish. Plenty too many of the little shits round here still. Maybe someone should investigate Squirrel liver salad, or paté.
