  1. Well said Nigel. That conny could've so easily wiped out Mrs Miggins Daffodils but landed just short, excellent result mate, must have been nerve wracking for a moment though as you walked around to see what potential carnage there was.

I get more of a buzz straight felling big trees. When it comes to climbing : the bigger they are, the more fricking work there is involved. I'd climb a tree for free, but not with a chainsaw in my hand. (or a silky for that matter)
  3. you dont have to have an actual office, just claim a percentage of houshold bills for business use, i.e heating, lightbulb, internet, etc etc, otherwise you would have to setup seperate phone lines and elecy meters etc etc, think you can use something like 3% of annual bills as business use without any fuss.
  4. hahaha amazing, I was just typing that.
  5. oooo, fell them quick and then burn the roots or it will infect the full village mate.
  6. You only pay tax above a certain amount.
  7. whats wrong with gaffer tape???
  8. Cant believe Butch only managed a C+. haha
  9. Job done, smashed em down. Photos to follow.
  10. what are they for??? Troughs??? are they for pigs to eat out of??
  11. If you were to have a skip at your yard and allowed people to bring rubbish to your yard and put it in it, then got the skip company to come and collect it, then you would need a waste transfer license. I think. I dont care. If you are carrying all arisings back to your yard for recycling, then surely thats whole different kettle of fish.
  12. Yeah, thats fair enough, I wasnt saying it was wrong, I just wanted to know why, as an extra wrap only adds bulk to the knot, not strength or reliability. In your avatar it doesnt look like you have an extra wrap on that termination but your not falling out the tree are you?? haha
  13. Now then mate. Welcome. Just a quicky, not having a go, BUT you say you only do small felling and have basic ticket. Sooooo.........why do you need to run an MS660 and a "climbing" saw. What practical use have either of these specialist saws got for you???? There are lots of other saws available that will be much more suited to the work you are doing and dare I say safer. Dont want to sound so negative but thats what this site is for, your in the right place for practical advise, and mine would be swap the saws for an Ms260 or similar. As a self-employed person you will be aware that its your business name on the line and under scrutiny if (heaven forbid) there were to be an accident using improper tools for the job. On a lighter note, welcome once again.
  14. These saws look all well and good and at a very disposable price but let's be honest imagine the shame if another tree gang drove past and saw you using it. Do they come with free balaclavas to hide your identity?
  15. Good lad. I thought there was something missing. Haha
  16. How about remove and replace? Haha
  17. Does a 30% thining / crown cleaning reduce wind sail?? Yes:thumbup1: Does this leave the tree looking more natural? Yes:thumbup1:
  18. like a warm but wet sensation in the trouser department????
  19. Yeah, i regularly use a strop but there is the odd occasion when I might choose to strop the chainsaw to the tree and position myself in such a way as to be able to swing well away from potential battering rams. If working close to main line with saw though there is no excuse IMO.
  20. My god, did i just get somehting right????? Fact of the matter is, heavily reduced trees look rubbish, thinned and raised canopys look natural and untouched (if done properly). I only reduce trees for money, and I have NEVER recommended a reduction.
  21. Just to put a spanner in the works. Have you ever met anyone that wished they hadnt had a second strop holding them in "the firing line" as it where. say, when a large lump has reacted inother way than was forseen and they couldnt get out the way??? I believe there are times when you really dont want a second strop on (now and again) as long as you are in a secure postition whilst cutting and nowhere near you main line. Some crane jobs for instance.
  22. I think thats a different type of leverage mate. haha:confused1:
