  1. heres some piccywicks First is my old setup which i only swapped through boredom and wanting different coloured cord haha Second is my new favourite (the tight biter) runs smoothly but grips instantly.
  2. I weigh different from other people so it would be hard to say. At the moment I am using 11mm Yale blaze and 11.7mm Tachyon both ropes have Lyros Runner friction cord. 4 wraps and 3 braids. The lyros cord lays sorta flat against the rope giving a really tight grab, but i have also had great success with 8mm ocean poly on both ropes and 8mm Roblon and 8mm Sirius. I always configure with 4 wraps and 3 braids with a set length of cord, (which I cant remember off hand, wrote on workshop wall)
  3. and there was me thinking Mr Bullman just sat at a computer all day organsing this rabble haha Is that the new yale rope with no name????
  4. Not if used properly.
  5. You make it sound like a chore or even a shock that you might be agreeing with me. Thanks mate. Haha
  6. This thread has gone downhill. Let me try and summarise. Guy is injured after slipping off a branch because of epicormic growth, vt system was tight and therefore did not catch him, hope he makes a full recovery soon. There are sooooo many why's and wherefores to go into as to how this happened. We weren't there, we don't know. Risk management that he and or company could take from this incident is vast: was there an easier way to access the tree? Was there an over confidence or lack of experience with that particular climbing system? Was the system suited to that type of access? Was the hitch cord suited to the rope? Was he tired and or not concentrating? Was he being rushed? And so on and so on. The vt knot is IMO second to none as a work positioning knot, it isn't however a knot you would use for fall arrest. Which is what happened here. I for one don't believe that the vt caused the fall, it just didn't cure it, that doesn't make it The knots fault. Simples.
  7. Just put one picture up every day and keep them all salivating. Haha. Great shots.
  8. Most slings have a rating of 25kn? How can you not trust it enough? Won't your boss just buy to a new rope
  9. Not wanting to carry this whole debate on too much but yes, as you stated the accident was knot related but it wasn't the knots fault. V.t users are aware (or should be) of the potential of the knot breaking and not gripping. Not checking This IS climber error. We all know chainsaws are dangerous and we treat them with he respect. They deserve but an injury occured by lack of concentration is no he chainsaws fault for being sharp? Food for thought.
  10. Yup that's it.
  11. That is sooooo gay. Has he ever kissed a girl. Hahaha
  12. I can't link it via the iPhone cos it comes from the mobile version of YouTube bjust type in Itcc on the tube and find "beddes work climb"
  13. What a good idea. That way, we could carry small amounts of brash back to the yard to be chipped later, from smaller jobs when it is sometimes pointless dragging a chipper all the way to only to run it up for 40seconds worth of chipping.
  14. Tattoos on the soles of your feet wear off after a few days cos of all the dry skin Ive had loads done, get my artist to do one every time i get some ink. Had some quite horrific things wrote on my feet. Good laff showing people though.
  15. In m opinion mate, the climber is the boss and his safety is number one priority. Make yourself heard, you are basically running the show. If the limbs don't swing away from you quick enough let him know. I'm sure he will be more impressed with some communication and some intuition than if you were to be injured by a butt swinging into you and giving you a great whack. If you did something wrong he would be the first to shout up. Seeing those bits falling smoothly and gracefully away from you and touching the ground feather like would make his day as much as it would make yours. He might be more experienced but you were both as new to the system.
  16. Yeah. Fair enough testing out the new system but I did notice a distinct lack of communication between climber and groundie which would surely be more needed when testing something new. You did nothing wrong at all. The tree as dismantled very well with relative ease and more importantly safely. Just think that firstbtut nearly hit you then you shouldve told the groundie this and tried less wraps or a different approach on second similar sized limbs. Once again, nice job, well done and I'm sure you will come to grips with the new kit very shortly and the groundie will be quizzing them lumps down like a good-un.
  17. How can it have made the job any quicker when after you made your cuts the limbs just sat there suspended for ages. None of them limbs where big enough to warrant taking the extra time to tie two knots IMO.
  18. Would putting a sling and another karabiner in between your hitchclimber and your end knot work?
  19. Not more conservative at all. Watch some of the ITCC comps on YouTube. The 2008 beddes work climb will show you how conservative a technique it isn't.
  20. I've got absolutley against nothing other methods of climbing. The last thing I want though is accidents being reported accusing the vt of failing then have use look into it and banning such climbing systems. Haha
  21. I still think you felled it mate. Hahahaha
  22. Don't know if that was just a joke or ignorance.
  23. There's nothing wrong with some healthy debate fella. The point I was making is that you don't have to check the knot regularly, if used properly it is "fixed" constantly by the way you climb. It is however an unforgiving system that should only be used as an "advance" from a basic system (not advanced as in superior, whoever said that). For getting around a tree, I can't think of anything better, for ascending thee are loads of superior ways and the same for descending. My main point on this thread, however I worded it, was that the climbing system did not cause the fall. Period.
  24. As you obviously know so little about the vt system, then why bother arguing the toss about it. The vt is in no way unsafe otherwise how would tuefelberger be able to sell the C.E climb system?
  25. If you type in your name on google and it only shows 1 result then you are classed as a googlewhacker. Very few people left in the world are.
