Exactly Dean. If you step cut and then move out of the way, the crane driver has to put extra tension on to snap it which will result in shock. Or the crane has to go from side to side, resulting in a nasty swing which can also cause shock. Straight through equals smooth and predictable.
  3. If you somehow managed to get 10-15%, as soon as you put the log into a basket to go to the room where it will be burned, it will take moisure back on. Check the MS of a picture frame.

You should always just cut straight through to elimate shock loading. By the time you are 3/4 way through you know wether you need to lift / lower etc.

Well a 100 tonne crane at full extension would only just manage a tonne. I think.
  6. You can find out 2moro mate. Got a nice ivy covered ash for you haha.
  7. This reminds menof a very similar thread put up yesterday. Only not quite as good. Haha.
  8. Yeah but who is going home with the bad back?
  9. Naturally air dried to 30-50%mc??????? Is that air dried for a bout a week? Haha. What a joke.
  10. You could show some of Dadios videos? Haha.
  11. Ive had a pair and just found them a bit too high for my liking. Do break in nicely though.
  12. First impressions are that these are far more supportive than my Haix Trekker Mountains and have better soles and larger heels for spikes.
  13. I believe around the £170 mark, but i deliberately didnt mention price as I dont personally DONT think you can put a price on decent footwear. Especially not in our job. As for the bergsteiners, they didnt have VIBRAM soles did they???
  14. Having been a die-hard Haix fan for such a long time now, I felt it would be almost sacreligous to even contemplate looking elsewhere for Chainsaw protective footwear. However, after being tempted to stray by Pfanners and Meindls latest offerings (only put off by the red colour), I felt it may be worth looking into what was available. I also have to admit that I have grinned and beared the lack of heel on my Trekkers. APF 2010 was just around the corner and the decision was made to add Boots to the list. I was immediatley drawn to the GTX because of the similarities in design to both the Pfanner and the meindls, the rugged rubber surround, the ball bearing lace loops, the Vibram soles. The waterproof lining. These boots had everything I wanted and werent a silly colour. I purchased without question. I have only worn them for 8 hours due to having to have my size ordered direct from manufacturer, so will add my full review week by week. For now I will give you a brief rundown of the initial impressions. Please feel free to add to these with your own experiences. Out of the box. Style / desirability : I find these boots very well designed and have show obvious signs of alot of thought gone into them. Not your average Hiking boots style. So I award them 5/5 Features : Vibram soles immediately tell me these are a quality product. bearings in the bottom set of lace loops allow you to really get these boots tight without putting stress on the laces. Gore-tex style lining a must have. Large area covered by heavy duty rubber surround, great for absorbing the general knocks and scuffs from day to work without scuffing leather.Large heel size to accommodate spikes. I award 5/5 Initial comfort : Oh my god. This is where these boots are going to make or break. Upon looking inside the boot my initial reaction was "where are the washable inner soles that I love so much from Haix. The Steins dont appear to have any at all. I put my foot inside tentatively at first half hoping for immediate slipper like comfort only to be amazed at the wooden clog like feel. These boots look tough and sturdy, they feel even more tough and sturdy on your feet. So much so, that I was tempted to take them off after a couple of hours of dragging brash as my calves and shins were actually aching. Almost every step felt heavy and cumbersome, i kept telling myself that they will "break in". They didnt in the 8 hours I wore them today. I took them off and was surprised to find no blisters. My trainers felt like heaven and I could walk normally again without arching up onto my tip toes. The soles really are that stiff it feels as if your are walking on boards. I award 1/5 (the point being for the ability to really get them nice and tight) I am 99.9% sure that these boots will break in and become more comfortable but I have made the choice to put in an inner sole out of some Merrel Climbing trainers. I cant really say much more than that as I have only worn them for a day, I will add to this review after a week, then a fortnight and let you know how I progress. Hope someone may find this helpful. Thanks. Darren.
  15. What about my taxus baccata on the previous page Tony?
  16. sorry, haha heres the real ones from today. I know they arent rare, but they were all I could find at yard today and didnt want to NOT find Fungi.
  17. Need a positive ID on this weird mushroom, believe it to be Taxus baccata, any objections??
  18. Having found a new hobby, I feel as if I have won already. But still want a new camera.
  19. I've got some more pics to add from today. Will keep you in suspense as they are crackers.
  20. I might not have been lying aswell though. If I admitted on here that I knew of a top secret ancient woodland where there is loads of rare fungi, I'd have Tony Knocking on my front door asking if was coming out fungi hunting. If that was to happen and my secret new found love for "funting" were to be made public, well......... I can only imagine the embarrassment and public humiliation.
  21. Or maybe I was lying?Haha.
  22. Has anyone seen the film Grizzly man, where Timothy Treadwell is filming himself living and playing with massive grizzly bears in the wild. One of the bears one day decides to eat poor Timothy and his girlfriend. Even though Timothy continually stated in his documentarys that he was working for the good of the bears and he was in no danger. He must have been told hundreds of times to stop playing with bears by his friends and family. Im sure there is a point in there somewhere. Try and find it.
  23. I enjoyed it aswell. I have enjoyed watching all Dadios videos.
  24. Well I found 5-6 but didn't want to show off. Haha.
