I don't care. The iPhone has the wifi's.
  2. Yeah i appreciate that, but with only 18months exp, surely he would have to start at the bottom as a choker chaser and work up to rigging and/or sawing.
  3. I thought this thread was more about working in the woods in Oregon. Yarders, skylines, hook tenders, whistle punks, greenhorns, tin hats, cork boots, tail holds, timber wagons, bucking logs, etc etc. Not dismantling tulip trees in residential areas.
  4. Dont believe you. Spent more time sat by the side of your computer hahaha.. Still trying to get the Steins broke in. Hurting my heels as they are so stiff. Really nice for working with spikes though and you arent gonna twist your ankle.
  5. Thats all we use. Even have a 12v USB charger for the van.

Thanks for the input, exactly why I started this thread. Would be interesting to find out how a quality control system could be introduced into the firewood and biomass market in the UK.
  7. my izzy is 5 years old and gets a new air filter every year (bout £6). She was a very good purchase.

Those of you in the know about the firewood and biomass industry will have undoubtedly heard of the new HETAS Quality assurance scheme for biomass based upon the Draft european standard, with the first aspect being firewood. I was wondering how many of you had signed up and what you thought the benefits were. I apperciate this is aimed more so at the larger suppliers and not really of any use to tree surgeons getting rid of your of "arb arisings". Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
  10. To be fair though it doesn't matter how big the trees were, and the end customer isn't paying for our blood and sweat so to make decent profit you have to be as efficient in all areas of production. From felling to processing. These factors should all be worked out before buying standing timber.
  11. No, No, No, Ill buy it by the tonne thank you.:001_tt2:haha
  12. From a professional point of view, Oak is an abissmal firewood. Dont touch it.
  13. The only reason you would fell and then store would be to get more value for haulage costs to then process it yourself, surely???
  14. Oh and I forgot to say, add into that cost of MPG for your chosen delivery method aswell.
  15. Why is Oak worth more than Beech for instance??? A cubic metre of Oak is the exact same volume as a cubic metre of Beech. Selling by cubic metre is only a way of quantifying what you have if you dont have a method of weighing it.
  16. Its simple. add up : value of standing + Cost of harvesting / extraction +haulage + processing (including depreciation of machine) + handling and storage, increase these figures by 50% due to moisture loss and you should have a figure of what the wood is worth per tonne, you can then work out what it is worth per cube and what its KWH value is.
  17. Ah, well thats a different matter, you didnt say it was green.
  18. You didnt say it was green. Have you paid to harvest, extract and haul the timber???
  19. If you sell it by the tonne, the person who buys it will get alot more volume for their money if it is 1 year old.
  20. Where and how has it been stored for the last year and what lengths is it in??
  21. In answer to your question, I think The only way you could ask for more money would be if it was for your time seperating it into different piles. Waste of time. Bang it all in as mixed. Unless of course you already have loads of customers who have pre-ordered specifically oak at the new higher price. Then it might be worth it.
  22. If I was gonna buy 100 tonnes of hardwood, delivered. I wouldnt want to pay more because it was oak. I just want 100 tonnes of hardwood.
  23. Yup.
  24. Thats the way he rolls.
