  1. Sorry but it all depends on how important what you are doing is to you!!! Was it really neccessary to tow a 3 ton digger in these conditions? Very high risk i would say especially if you couldn`t get up a hill with it on!! I hope the digger was road registered and Insured to travel on the road? It might have been that the people were unable to walk the distance or even they were doing an shop run for all the people they have cheacked on that morning, u know good neighbour and all that:biggrin:
  2. Tree officers new mode of transport had a few teething troubles to iron out! Horse included bark! This tree is in a stable condition!
  3. well there has been a bit more than a few inchs today, seen evidence of 12inchs Also the current Health and saftey regime would have risked it off before even starting the engines for the buses and alot of working folk! We coped and never put the truck in 4x4 but there you go
  4. only way i could justify less than £100 before the taxes would be for a easy 6 hour day, obvious they aint paying tax on this money. from £100 you will be lucky to pocket £70 without any other expenses i.e tools, vehicle, insurance
  5. was talking to a mate who is a fencing contractor, he is struggling for work and placed an add in the local paper. He has had 4 or 5 calls from this ad and 2 of them were shocked he was charging around £150 per day , they were saying that they have had quotes for £60 per day!!! He told them to take thier hands off but give him a call when it all falls down! Just shows how pricing is different , bet the fellas who quoted £60 a day don`t pay income tax and national insurance!!
  6. It will be worse than before christmas Buzz, i won`t be surprised if we don`t see atleast 6 inchs of snow across many parts of britain, In favoured areas it could be upto 10 inchs especially in the east. The weather models are upgrading all the time and the latest is looking like it could stay very cold and snowy for most fo the week.
  7. Met office have now issued a Severe weather warning for the south east across into Central southern england. Potential for a covering of snow over night tonight but then a prolonged spell of heavy pesistant snow from monday afternoon into tuesday morning predictions of 15-20 cm are being forecast. This snow will then move north into midlands and southern scotland tuesday/wednesday. Please take precautions if you have to travel between now and wednesday, our travel network dosn`t cope with these rare events!
  8. Nice piccies B10 make sure you get some of it in action, mind out for the burried cars!!!! remember back in the early 90`s hitting a buried car in a drift with a blade it hurts even at 15mph:sad:
  9. With what could be the coldest snowyest week for around 10 years approaching i thought i would start this thread for any pictures of what snow you get . Looking good for all week with the od warmer day around tuesday/wednesday. the east side of the country could well see lots of snow but anywhere could get a good covering. Be safe out there folks theres alot of people who would have never driven in this sort of weather.
  10. Hey Alasdair no offence mate but 2 months experiance is not very much to think of going it alone, esspecially in the present climate. It won`t cost you much to set up and get going but i think you will have to take the rough with the smooth for a while until that experiance builds alittle. offer to do any type of work in arb I,e chipper feeding and the like to get yourself a name of a good hard worker. read through other threads and you will see what peeps are offering groundies. good luck , i have been through redundacey and it is not nice, mine was after 17 years !
  11. Thank you all for your contributions entries are now closed for this competiton. 15. climbing kit, would be good if there was a brief discription of what it could be used for, Rope is quiet obvious but some of the gizmos newbies havn`t a clue. good pictures are a must and clear pricing/ make the postage costs obvious as well, several sites i have been on and it takes ages to to find the cost of PnP
  16. never have done , never will:sneaky2:
  17. I often remind the wife what i would be doing if not on here!!!!!!!!!! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Strongbow!!!!!
  18. I think our house is bugged, hear the same thing every day:scared1:
  19. if you can run in 1000rpm on a 540 shaft , this will give you 540 rpm at the shaft at 1100rpm on the engine basiclly tick over, cheap 540/1000 converter will do this no problem
  20. Hey Treewiz spoke to this bloke the other day, very nice chap not to far away and he runs carving courses!!! http://www.treecycler.me.uk/commissions.html some nice pieces on there have a look
  21. flow rate to an external implement is only as good as the smallest point in the system , you can have 200ltr per min pump but you won`t get 200lts out of a 1/4 inch pipe in 1 minute. My sugestion was to make the current system as fast as can be then decide if more speed is needed and is it worth hundreds of pounds on pumps, tanks and possiblly bigger pipes. I doubt it will be, But you have built alot more things than me Ed and you will probablly be able to tell him how much quicker for how many £££
  22. I don`t think a PTO pump would make much difference to the speed of that splitter, the ram size is why it is slow. The best you will get is to let the return pipe go straight into the back end of the tractor if your using a spool block on the splitter, this will remove any back pressure . Don`t forget the other use for this type of splitter is to hold cord wood if your cutting it up with a chainsaw, excellent clamps! Post the result if you do go for a PTO pump , it will be interesting to know if it makes it quicker
  23. Arborbirds are GO!!!! might be on to a new venture here:001_cool:
