  1. i guess you have never driven a jap 4x4 then LOL, as for reversing i am confident of reversing most trailers from a chipper to a 40ft curtain sider with anything on the front! certain combinations might take awhile but i would get it there:sneaky2: as for the plodding around thats great you enjoy it because thats all landys can do Cool Edd, have owned 2 so qualified to comment i think
  2. i like the clatter of rings when it`s cold too, sounds like a woodpecker under your bonnet or you think you might have left some spanners under there when you tried to get it going that morning!!!
  3. and the big oil slick from underneath it when you leave also the cloud of smoke as you pull off down the road LMAO and all the wheel ruts in the lawn cause the turning circle is about 40ft!!
  4. Big shinny chrome bumpers and posh tinted windows or dented scratched muddy LAndy?
  5. Just sometimes it all works and you love it for the next 6 months when it dosn`t!!
  6. still be beter with a turbo or 2 on it LOL
  7. Not sure where this need loads of ££££ to buy a landy comes form, i have owned 2 discos, a 200tdi and a 300tdi, neither of them cost me more than £7k. Both were 6 years old ish. Total i spent on both due to breakdowns would be no more than £2k at most and that was for 10 years motoring. Biggest job was clutch fork wearing through and needing new lever and while we were in there puta clutch in it, if your confident and have the gear to do this sort of thing landies are great. If i remember right the total cost for Clutch, clutch lever and thrust bearing was about £150 I would say you need to be able to do basic mechanics and happy to spend an hour or 2 fixing things. Alot of problems with landies are silly electrical problems that with a bit of knowledge and time most people can sort. £2k would buy your a 1997 ish 300tdi Disco with around 100k on the clock. Defenders are a little more expensive so you might be in the 200tdi upto 96. Do not buy a non Turbo unless you are a snail !!!!!
  8. If you really have to buy a Land rover i would buy a discovery over a defender for about 3k, 300TDI about 10 year old for that money. If your really brave you might find a TD5 for about £3000 i have seen one or two around but what they were like i don`t know, probablly high miles 150k +. Mileage isn`t a real problem if it has been looked after and alot of these sort of vehicles would be leased so servicing should have been done. Another choice is look for a bag of crap and build your own, 6-£700 would get you a heap then look to rebuild it into what you want, at least then you`ll know how to fix it when it goes wrong! Several folks on here have done loads to their landies so help is at hand. Good luck!

    chipper mods

the top picture shows the organic fertilization modification, this mod distribtes chips for about 10 yards allround the site and very even if there is no wind. Added bonuses of this mod is there is no haulage of chip or disposal. good thinking bob
  12. Like the idea, could it all be made for under 10k?
  13. Might be a new venture here Ed design a system that works for this set up. I have seen district systems with huge stroage bins and loader fed hoppers but a system like your thinking of could be very benifical especially if it is in the region of £5k
  14. There may be a government grant to help out on establishing this sort of thing well worth looking into. Space for most is an issue and initial cost for set up is quiet high. Not sure on using anyold chips i think they need to be a certain moisture at minimum. The type i have seen would use a loader to fill the hopper this then is augered into the boiler.
  15. Braces for me , actually enjoy the nipples being rubbed and bonus of dusty balls . what more could a man ask for ripped to many pairs of trousers from arse to balls and often when bending down to pick something up on a site where there is public all over the place.
  16. bit of a problem !!! how would you start the steam engine? you would need chips!!! cant get chips until engine is running!!!! you thought you were clever ehh Mr ED , not as sharp as me ehhh:001_tongue:
  17. A way of finding out what time a visitor arrives!! you will need Fishing line small alarm clock that runs on one AA battery a small piece of thin plastic. Attach alarm clock to a solid object in a way that the rear is facing direction of entry. Would be handy to be able to see clock face in situe but not a real issue. Attach fishing line as a trip alarm accross path, then attach other end to small piece of plastic, this piece of plastic needs to slide between battery and terminal on clock. Set the time for 12 oclock . when set up the clock won`t be working but if tripped the clock will start working, as long as you check it every 12 hours you can calculate how long ago the alarm was tripped. Used this method for Foxes visiting pheasant pens for years, do 4 or 5 alarms and see if there is a patern, with foxes it would be within 1 hour most times.

    brown pants

Agree Skyhuck, for an experienced climber with lots of knowledge, but in a normal situation and an less experianced climber i think a good tree assesment would push you to think of other ways of removal. I.E rope into a near by tree or MEWP or as was done fell it. It concerns me that some of the younger members could see this and try it thier selfs and end up in trouble. No offence Skyhuck:001_smile:
