  1. ive got a Warn M8000 radio controlled one on my navara, It came with a bumper mounts and fits really easily. Cost about £1200 all in. I cant remember the company i bought it from but will dig it out tomorrow. Amazing bits of kit to have and has saved me a few times from getting stuck and pulling big trees over,
  2. Completely area dependant . I sell for more than that and am already running out!! It's all about what your happy with for your effort.
  3. Don't stress , some people expect it for nothing. Stand your ground and trust your judgement. I've done some terrible under estimations and under quoting in my time and have learnt. But ironically on jobs I have not wanted I have grossly over quoted and won them!!! 2 days for 700 is cheap!
  4. I also had a chat with a woodchip buyer recently, due to the high number of loads which get taken with logs and other detritus in, the power plants are thinking got only taking from sites where previous screening has been carried out. This may mean that we have to take the chip to a depot to then be sold. It's going to be a real pain in the oak butt if this is true.
  5. Doing the maths on a spreadsheet taking into account the various attributing factors, variables and creating a management model, the prices being mentioned do indeed create a huge profit for the clients and a huge amount of stress to the cutters. Its not viable to carry out the work when my day to day work creates a higher revenue and income. Running the £20 per ton through the model, the sale price would need to be 60-70 per tonne which i do not think is viable at the moment!
  6. Got mine going flat out, Labrador is as far away as she can be and the wife is down to her pants in 25 mins. This years wood is good to go!
  7. Hand file for a touch up then when it's proper pucked I take it home to the Oregon bench grinder for an angle reset! Anyone else find they are very sensitive to aggressive sharpening? Mine has to be perfect to run well or it jams. It's a dalen 2052 with a 20 inch bar.
  8. I've got some and cannot fault them, brilliant trousers
  9. Still looking , seems Gloucestershire is devoid of Arborists looking for work!!!
  10. contact a traffic light company locally to you. they can get permission if you are unsure. Road closures can be anything from £700-1300 depending on the size and duration plus then the diversion routes needed for signage etc etc. Its very expensive to do. How about, if its a 30mph, use a mewp, two guys with stop go boards, plenty of signage and cones, consult the little red book! Sensibly price the job, if the client says no then you dont look silly.
  11. Well last years prices according to the Fc were about 22 standing I believe, I'm sure they will have a generic list for 2013. Prob is landowners want more and firewood buyers want to pay cheap!!!! Rock and a hard place people!!! As for secret emails, I still haven't got one so nobodies missing out!!!! Lol
  12. It's small stuff , 4 to 8 inch beech, cherry and ash. It's maths really, loads of effort to get a tonnage, hourly felling rates with the boys etc. if I sell for 50 a tonne, thats 5 profit in the end! It's just not worth the effort and expense of working the wood. We can earn more through Arb work. I know there is a value for standing timber but overpaying initially to then have to get hassled when selling!!! I'm not into that!!!
  13. its [email protected] The wood we looked at has been marked inefficiently by the owner and is allot of work to fell also. Plus with the 2m spacing restriction between the rows, not being able to remove a row for a bigger machine and he doesnt want it to be rutted on the tracks, i think my pricing is going to be much lower than 15 a tonne to even clear costs!!!
  14. Mr Lyncombe Climber i think i need the emial too!! i have about 100 acres to thin and am stuck on price!!
  15. we always cut a couple of logs into wedges to put beside the chipper, helps with the launch for the return sprint!!! Im also a great fan of jogging on the spot when we are waiting!!!
  16. 450-500 crickey do you stack them in the bag!!!! theres only so much you can fit in a 1x1x1m bag!!!
  17. I always try and keep some survey work in my pocket for when its going to chuck it down!!!!
  18. I own a Dalen 2052 , that thing was made for arb waste, 6-12 tonne force, 20 inch capacity and built like a tank. Its the smallest in their range and the others look great.
  19. Multi tip are the best teeth i have found on the market. Very fast and easy on the machines,
  20. Isnt that what the hire companies hire out. Camon are a firm favourite with Ermin etc. I would just stick to what its got in the way of teeth, get yourself a diamond sharpener wheel from Saturn knives etc, keep it sharp, make it earn you some money then upgrade, keep it tidy and it will return a higher value. My first grinder was the predator 450, i still have it and it flys through stumps.
  21. bumpety bump, still looking for people, drop me a pm or call me on the mobile.
  22. Yep, great saw, doesnt quite rev out well enough so i made a mild adjustment to the exhaust and now it really goes like stink. It revs much more cleanly and has just a tad more power on bigger stuff. Unfortunately will wreck any warranty you have though!!!
  23. mine work out 300-320 ish.
  24. I have a Dalen 2052 which can handle up to 40cm wood, if you have a tractor i can bring it up to you with a timber grab to load it. i really speeds up processing. If i can help let me know.
  25. I run a skid steer where ever i can, across building sites, soft ground, golf courses and even perfectly manicured gardens, if you spin on the spot you will wreck the ground but 99% of the time you wouldnt know i have been there! i bet the articulated loaders can damage ground to an inexperienced user etc. Either way equipment such as the mini loaders are the way forward in Arb, i have had mine for 2 years now and its transformed how we work.
