  2. Hey guys, i just had a meeting with one of the Yellow pages chaps and he quoted over a £1000 for a small advert, $@£% me if i had my harness on i might not of fallen of my chair so hard!!!! And then £580 for yell.com. Is this the going rate for this book?
  3. Just received all the steel for the back of my tipper, seriously heavy!!! Using 50mm x 50mm x 5mm angle iron with some 50mm x 5mm flat bar. the back should emasure when finished 10ft x 7 x 4. This Zingtek sheet a few people have mentioned, is it good to use? Was thinking alloy but if there is an alternative!
  4. Very handy at scattering bits of wood around the garden! http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/images/falldays/attach/jpg.gif
  5. Hey all, i have looked at getting a box made for my tipper, a quote from a blacksmith was 800 + vat for just a frame to be built out of mild steel. After picking myself up from his workshop floor i did some investigating. Parker steel can supply enough steel to buit a 10x7x4 foot back for £200 to make a frame. you have to weld it yourself but if you know a friend etc etc etc. You can then either board it with ply or spend another 220 and get enough alloy sheet to cover it. I am going to do this but use a super tough pvc tarp pulled tight for the top. I will let you all know how it goes.
  6. I have an even older Vermeer 620i made in 1992 with 2400hrs, i knew it was never going to compare to new chippers but it turns wood into wood chip and as long as you dont abuse it the thing just keeps going. As another has said, a little unstable off kerbs etc but a great little machine. I purchased mine for 2k and has helped me kick start my business.
  7. I have a D22 for all my kit and hauling the chipper and trailor around, its a good wagon but is bouncy unloaded!!!! Not sure about the new ones though, probably more refined.
  8. See what you guys think!!!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bear-Cat-Wood-Chipper-Shredder-Towable-20HP-Engine-VGC_W0QQitemZ220269640844QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220269640844&_trkparms=72%3A985%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Im not buying thats for sure!!!!
  9. I started my business 1 month ago and it is now starting to get more busy by the day, and i now am looking to get some assistance. Predominantly all my work is private work with some council work in the near future. This may not suit all as I am working a few days a week at the moment but i am seeking a groundsman or novice climber to assist, this would be ideal for somebody trying to get into the industry. This may not be the best way of advertising but should someone be in the position to assist then drop me a line.
  10. Hi chap I could assist with Gloucestershire, Cheltenham area if needed, have all the tickets and kit etc you require. Also some very good contacts for climber near Bristol. David
  11. Try Steve wingrove at Midland Forestry, he will employ you no doubt!! He won the council contract in Bristol.
  12. Too early in the morning to notice the big Scotland tag on his profile. Ignore me, im getting more coffee!
  13. Where abouts are you, maybe someone could throw you a bone!!!!!
  14. I keep getting asked and i am sure other are too, when should we be pruning? A hopefully new client today called and asked when should her Walnut be pruned and could i advise as she had read many conflicting pieces of advice. Is there a definitive book with all the answers or even a rule of thumb to follow. I never blind a client with rubbish and bull because it is too easy to for them to check up and ruin any credibility you may have. Some trees are obviously more susseptable to pruning and others are not, age and health are obvious factors in judgement too. I try and give an honest opinion at all times and say i dont know when i dont but has anyone come across good guides to follow? Apologies if this thread has already been done, but i did search and could not find much. David
  15. I am currently doing the online version, you have to have allot of self control to do it. Its not easy at all, and i am sure the Westernbirt one with Treelife would be the way to go. Myerscough is £620 where as the Treelife one is £1500 i think. Hope that helps.
  16. I have all the notes for the Tech Cert as i am studying it now online. Im sure i am not supposed to share them but leave me a message and i could send them out. David
