  1. You might have to change the fuel lines as they soften and also change filters more often. My mate runs 200tdi at 50p ltr at at the moment no problems but as mentioned before older engines run without much mod but it hasnt been used in the winter months thou
  2. Beech wood fires burn bright and clear if the logs are kept for a year, Store your beech for christmas tide, with new cutt holly laid beside, Chestnuts only good, they say, if for years its stored away, Birch and firwood burn to fast blaze to bright and do not last, flames from larch will shoot up high, dangerously the sparks will fly. but ashwood green an ashwood brown are fit for a Queen with a golden crown. Oaken logs, if dry and old, keep away the winters cold, popular gives a bitter smoke, fills your eyes and makes you choke, elmwood burns like churchyard mould Even the flames are cold, Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread so it is in Ireland said, Applewood will scent a room, peaswood smeels like flowers abloom, but ashwood wet and ashwood dry A King may warm his slippers by.
  3. Saftey at Street Works and Road Works a code of practice isbn 978-0-11-551958-1 will give you the information with signs etc but you need lighting signing and guarding 'operators' ticket to put out road signs on a highway. and someone with the 'supervisors' ticket be it the same person ,to you guessed it supervise check etc...... It might be Singing lighting and guarding ?? cant remember and its late Liase with highways and keep them informed and for relevant permission blah
  4. Was reading an earlier thread and thought maybe some of you may be interested in Jean Payne...... He was a french forester who instead of burning wood chip utilised the heat fom the bacterial break down in big piles to heat his house and even produced gas wich he collected in rubber inner tubes to run his 2cv and cook with...... check him out on utube you will even get to see loads of hippies in a chain feeding his home made chipper and you wouldnt want to fall in that baby ! I am a techno phobe so I cant give you a link but utube Jean Payne and take a look
  5. Been waiting over three weeks for a ram for my chipper from v........ must say they have a polite phone manner but how long does it take, want to up grade possibly soon but after this maybe look elsewhere. 6. There was a dawn raid by the police this am, in surrey at a secluded barn that was full of equipment, so If any of you have had stuff nicked ring the police in dorking as they are dealing with it ......just maybe you might get lucky I dont have a list but its worth a punt... no use though if you cant prove its yours.........serial numbers are the key
  7. Dean, If you are selling the boundary does it matter if you fall out, as he will no longer be your neighbour? Is it not the principle of what he has done? Did he not initially say your logs delivered where to expensive and offer you £100 (on previous post) Next thing you know he has tresspassed, caused damage and intent of theft? Play the game hse, forestry comm, complain to local bobby keep your hands clean (play with tar it sticks to your fingers). What would be his reaction if you had done the same ??? On a lighter note stick a couple of road killed badgers under them and add badger act in the mix Let the powers that be become your champion
  8. Lee, For road use a good vehicle ,but as already stated off road not the best, a major company I contract for changed from LR to the fords and havnt been to impressed about off road/clearance etc but at the end of the day you can have the best 4x4 but if your on road biased tyres you might as well flog a dead horse.
  9. Here are In my mind sum beauties from Galacia The first two 01 02 are in 'Padron' and every sunday the square is heaving with market with no room to move! 11. Tana, as yorkshireman says spot on visual tree inspection , bottom to top -flaking bark dead limbs (hangers) wasps lol Hammer !mewp/crane etc (access can be a problem if on bad terrain/woods) binoculars a good start. My main work is dead dying or dangerous, If u can climb a healthy tree nearby will always work of that or directional fell with pulleys winches etc but sometimes targets or space doesnt allow.Normally access of ladder not a throw bag as I can asses as i climb (especially if covered in ivy)and listen to my inner voices and if any doubt get down ,many a time I have held my breath until iv taken my weight out and then sighed with releif . Trees all have different characteristics weaknesses and strengths, methodical balanced dismantling an emergency procedure and confidence/communication with your groundie. making sure all risk assessment etc are all in place incase the s*** hits the fan THINK TWICE CUTT ONCE
  12. What size are the pores? Heterobasidion annosum - small Deadaleopsis confragosa - large
  13. Good job read the pdf with interest like the dead hedging/chestnut to reduce risk/liability. Do alot of habitat piles, sometimes wonder why I bought a chipper ! Its a funny thing from being told/taught how improtant cutts are to codit and the trees response, to seeing coronet/fracture cutts initially but everything has its place and in the right setting and at the right time in the trees phenology ,for its habitat value I dont think it can be knocked. just helping mother nature in a controlled form
  14. The only cars that will start fetching good money soon will be 8yrs old plus so you dont have to pay £400 /£600 to tax em
  15. Dean, Met my neighbour for the first time yesterday after about 7 months he inquired about the builder we have just used and in about 5 mins of chatting he told me how much he paid for his place and that he is already in negative equity and his financial hole (obviously on his mind to come out with to a stranger!) that is getting worse as he has to change mortgage etc.... Didnt think much of it untill about 10 oclock last night when it kicked off BIG STYLE not a little barny but a 2hr banging smashing you get the picture and the whole street could hear... All over money/ mortgage /working every hour of the day to scrap by, lucky you had something to sell! Also one of my clients who has won two silvers and a gold at chelsea -big jobs landscaping etc- is laying people of as no work coming in, so somethings on its way....
  16. Dave/marc just been out playing, larks foot on carabiner works a treat -just trying to find the balance between braids and wraps - reading all posts with great interest... thanks all 4 ur pointers
  17. go to 3.58 im sure he said more stella ! Translated at the beginning ' LOOKS MY SAWZ BOUGHT FROM CAR BOOTS IN UKS AND HELMETZ TOO VRY CHEAP, I GO BACK SOON MAN SAYS HE CAN GET ME CHIPPERS TIPPERS ALSO VERY CHEAP "
  18. Wot about a couple of cats? They are pretty independant and can be left on their todd and tell your kidds that they are strays? About time they were used for something usefull !
  19. Marc Thanks mate I will shorten the beeline and give it a go- I guess the shorter it is the more responsive it is to the flick -a couplemore wraps it will be... Who says you cant teach an old dog new tricks !! Your spot on about the prussik hence I am trying this out any more tips would be greatly appreciated. I love climbing and if this enables me to carry on "HAPPY DAYS" Im dreading the days of being office bound.....!
  20. Im no spring chicken and started with both ends of the rope, Then became happy with the prussik loops working of one end of climbing rope and having a long split tail.Using a friction saver also gives me fluent movements But locking with my right arm I can feel will give me sum jip so I am trying to get to grips with this set up.... Trouble is I go back to prussiks as sometimes I havnt got the time to be playing about on the job and I need all my concentration. But I can see its advantages as I use both arms to pull rope with out the locking and at a certain height the weight of the rope pulls through or groundy can hold it and I just have to make sure its locked!!! Like as mentioned before I need more time playing around to feel 100%
  21. When you go on holiday and the the pics are of trees and not a single one of your gf.........thats it just stand there.....perfect.......snap! When your whole body buzzes after a hard day through exhaustion but you feel alive... You love the smell of rope and wear fuel and oil as a permenant musk... When you can stand your ground with any pushy/arrogant customer and explain with authority your knowledge with compassion and earn there respect.... When you get refferals and repeat buisiness When your ear defenders are down ,your swaying in the wind 60ft + up, at one with the tree ....then your the king of the world
  22. 53,000 low for 10yr motor? Normally the injection pump on disco is set for a bit more omph. Turbo could be checked with a pressure boost check, check all pipes for cracks leaks Fuel line/filter blocked or air leak Low compression in one or more of the cylinders? Did you drive the disco with engine in /or buy off the floor... Did you put a new clutch in? as that may be slipping Apart from your hand brake /brakes I cant think of anything else sorry.....
  23. I was gonna try using maybe an old sail/army tent? stitched up sides and top and end with the opening at the rear - so its all enclosed stopping the chips flying-then it can be rolled up and put away when not needed, maybe with a removable bar half way down the cage to clip the top onto to stop sagging like an old pair of knickers So you then still get an all round 'canvas' box? I just want to reduce weight n drag so I can squeeze more on board and get home before dawn. I work alot off road so getting into position with chipper ready for exit I need to keep my visiability, as they are quite clumbersome in a tight spot....
  24. Parents most likely disowned them after years of being robbed by own flesh n blood... If they get convicted they will no doubt enjoying play stations tvs etc in a nice warm cell being fed and supplied smack making new contacts, then released early and housed in a council flat with benefits and a helpfull doctor..... Put em up against the wall
