  1. The only positive (and i'm clutching at straws) is that it does'nt effect the younger tree's so hopefully something can be done in time so at least the young will one day become old...for future generations
  2. tommer9: Dont believe the hype......it is pretty difficult to get your hand trapped. You would have to be a total numpty or so tired that you had no business being near equipment anyway. It isnt very likely and that is a fact.
  3. Call Chris n lucy 01730814815 Based Didling maybe to far away but I am sure they could sort you out.
  4. treequip If you have an accident with a chipper it’s likely to be because the protection devices weren’t working as they should or the "operator did something they shouldn’t have." That was my thought , I have sacked someone on the spot for pushing brush in a chipper with there foot. So like most things there are do's and dont's and common sense, everything we use day to day can cause injury The safety can be improved I agree it wasnt a dig I wonder if your words 'thats a bad idea' haunt him lol
  5. If you were nearer I would do it for you Aslong as the 'hired' have signs lighting and guarding 'operator' and supervisor you will be ok and would be cheaper than hiring a traffic management co - this could be the same person or at least have a supervisor check your signage at the begining and be on the phone if needed. To legally stop traffic the least you need a stop works sign ( like a lolly pop lady) this would enable you to stop traffic momentarily while you get the awkward bits down without having to set up lights etc.. Your local highways might be able to point you in the right direction and give you advice always good to keep on the right side of them
  6. I run a hydro-crack off an old mf 35 never had any probs, reverse up to rings adjust table height and split away. Pull cord on tractor to stop. Love it goes through nots loves hard wood.. There are copies from poland and you caan build your own (fleabay)but I cant comment on those treequip many people have accidents with chippers etc but we all use them
  7. My tuppence worth thought since 2008 all forms were a standard through out and mandatory??
  8. Hired a 100ft mewp and operator ,(butlers & sons) Easiest day working iv had big old beech and lightening struck oak, hate to think how long the beech would have taken to climb and section and wasnt too keen to climb oak. The operator was spot on positioned me every time as if he read my mind. As mentioned before access, drop zone and reach from lorries position could make it tricky. But I was lucky and out in the sticks on an estate.
  9. No nor have I ! thought it was only seen only on ash, but it was an old stubby step cutt with ash in the surrounding wood so I guess that is why..
  10. A bit of a derail D concentrica on prunus
  11. No worries, About 4ft, Should have taken more but was on a tight time scale, but I have got a good fungi pic of d concentrica on a a prunus , now that I havnt seen before but maybe you all have?
  12. A bit of a derail but I leave mine at home when chipper is out, as a day in the cab with vibration and noise would send me loopy and deaf. What are you thoughts???

  16. Personally I think walking through london under the mighty london planes for example gives the streets an air of history and atmosphere.....and they are only there through management You can see the evolution of arboriculture in the previous pollards from removing branches from a ladder to the progression of climbing out further on the limbs.. Through management and understanding new planting schemes can choose to plant the correct species in the right location avoiding the old "wrong tree wrong place' but the established trees in this country are here and our plots and spaces are cramped so measurements through reductions enable us to maintain green specs in our urban landscapes. To me glenn has done a good job and retained the tree and its shape it may not be a veteran tree or one of great beauty but it is a living moving landscape and far better than no tree at all. Unless a tree is a hazard our job is to retain and look after them and when it comes to trees in the last stages of its phenology then we can slowly help them gracefully return to earth Bit of a ramble but on the perry......................
  17. just thought someone may be interested in the state of the piston, the damage is on the exhaust side from the ring as you can see in the pic the piston is shot. The ring had smeared its self on the pot and at first glance and feel it seemed badly scored. but with some oil and wet n dry and a sharp knife I was able to clean off the smeared ring to find I might be able to save it. I am waiting for a new piston so will find out if I will get away with it. The only plus is when the saw stopped I didnt keep trying to pull it I left it well alone untill I had time to investigate................that may well have been my saving grace:thumbup1: we shall see
