  1. Well both countries need to seriously reduce their respective debts and trade deficits. So...... erm...... kerching! And most of our arms sales go to the middle east, so if all the arab countries all gang up on each other, and expend their arms stockpiles on each other, then order more from us.......... hmmmm! Is this a bad thought, but is it not a win win situation. We get out of debt, and few people of a certain religous persuasion get to meet their quota of 72 vestel virgins in heaven? Unless it threatens us directly, we should'nt get involved. It will only make us more enemies than friends. Everywhere we've tried to help so far, it transpires that it was a dictator (or a dictatorial group in the case of the Taliban in Afghanistan) that was holding the s**t together. Which when removed went on to seriously blow up in our faces. I've got cousins in the British; US and Australian armed forces. I don't see why our governments must take the moral high ground and risk them or anymore of our troops to try and settle the disputes of these blood thirsty heathens that have no perception of or desire for democracy, fairness, justice or any moral sense of fair play.
  2. Hey Hedgesparrow, I hope you return back to your thread and read this. If you've found four unkempt and overgrown graves of VC recipients, it may be worth getting in touch with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC - Homepage) to let them know. They may take on their ongoing upkeep to ensure that the graves are kept tidy and the sacrifice of the occupants is not forgotten. I had to strim an overgrown graveyard in Walkden, Salford a couple of weeks ago. All of the graves were overgrown and some had dissappeared completely from view under weeds, brambles, ivy and litter. All, that is except for a few graves and headstones dotted around the site that were kept immaculately clean and tidy. On closer inspection, they were all war graves from the 1st and 2nd World Wars. The 1st WW graves were all army guys that had returned to blighty injured but then subsequently died from their wounds. And nearly all the 2nd WW graves were members of the RAF, I'm guessing aircrew that did'nt survive sorties over occupied Europe though their aircraft managed to limp home. I got chatting to an old boy whilst I was there, and I asked him about the graves, and he told me that someone from the CWGC comes once a month to make sure all of the war graves were kept constantly clean and tidy. I was deeply touched, and after strimming the other graves around them, I made a great effort to rake all of the cuttings off each to ensure that they were left as neat and tidy as before I started. I shall be digging extra deep come this years poppy appeal.
  3. In any conflict the first two casualties are "the truth" and the "innocent non-combatants" caught in the crossfire or victims of collateral damage! I have'nt lost tooo much sleep, I'll be honest, about people of a certain religous persuasion running around offing their neighbours & bretheren of the same religous persuasion in the confines of their own country. (Though it does much to reinforce my own personal sanctimonious beliefs as why there is no such thing as god). Nor do I much care about anecdotal heresay and finger pointing about who started it and who did what to whom. But I am greatly concerened that ours and other western governments are now seriously considering wasting more of our unaffordable and precious blood and treasure sticking our oar into another unwinnable situation. If recent history had taught us anything we should have learnt by now that our actions and motives will only enflame an already troubled region of the world and would present another reason for the more extremist members of the aforeimplied religous group to hate us even more, (if thats possible). In our wake we will only leave behind yet another shattered basket case country, riven with internal conflict and turmoil alongside Iraq; Libya and Afghanistan (which, already teetering on the edge will probaly fall apart in less than 6 mnths after the last NATO troops leave next year. So by christmas then!) Maybe its high time, and perhaps long overdue, that we force some of the oil rich states in the region to step up and expend their blood on treasure on dealing with situation in another out of control country which shares the same religion. I'm sure another Saladin would be preferable to another Crusade. Unless...... of course....... they decide to turn around and retake Jerusalem. But maybe that could be next years world crisis. We should'nt get involved, it not our bloody problem. Its about time the bloody arabs sorted out their own problems.
  4. So tender your quote into the council to fell the trees, then at least you make something out of an unwinnable situation.
  5. What a muppet. Ignorant, selfish and unnecessary. On top of his conviction and fine, he should also be made to bear the full cost of restoration.
  6. And I bet he's never done a day of work in his life. If she knew what he was like beforehand then she should of used protection. If she did'nt know what he was like, then she should of used protection! Sorry mate, no offence intended, I'm sure your family will rally round and support this young lady. But, whilst the caddish calibre of the "gentleman" (sic) involved may be called into question, she has to bear half of the responsibility for her predicament.
  7. Ah-haa. Well that explains his absence then. Obviously working doubly hard to make Tree House as GOOD as Arbtalk.
  8. Or delivered it personally, in the back of a limo..... Must be a typo!
  9. Holy moly Batman! Seriously considering having a punt at that myself. Anyone any idea how tricky it would be to get a green card to work a few months in Hawaii? Also noticed that Master Blaster had posted on the Tree House thread, wondered what had happened to him, did he get barred from AT or just get bored! Sorry to hijack ur thread Deeco ()
  10. Good on ya mate. May Karma reward you in the fullness of time.
  11. Your concerns and misgivings are totally understandable. Can also appreciate you are busy today with work on etc. But, perhaps under the circumstances might it not be better if you could actually try to squeeze in a visit to the old boy to check that he is ok, rather than a phone call later today? It will probably also be a lot easier to communicate with him face to face that he does not owe you any money, especially if he is having trouble with his hearing. That way, if you are unable to find out anything about any relatives that could help him, you could at least perhaps contact a neighbour and ask them to keep an eye on the old boy and report to the police if they see any undesirables on his doorstep who look they might be unwanted or uninvited. All the best.
  12. Is the gate making a post modernist statement? Can't be a security thing, as there does not appear to be any fence on either side of the gate posts?
  13. What about a greenhouse? Everyone (erm 2, ) I've been near these past couple of weeks, has felt like to inside of a furness in this weather.
  14. How dare you SIR!!! Insult my family at your indulgence, but to insult a mans saw, is quite simply beyond the pale. En garde! I'll have you know that "dodgy " side casing is a genuine OEM Hong Kong special! Not only does it fit perfectly, it costs less than half the price of Stihl casing, and has the benefit of being able to be posted anywhere in the world.
  15. Cheers GTR; Spud & Gardenkit for your input. Forgot to mention in my original post, that I had already replaced the tank vent, when I replaced spark plug and fuel filter. Not to say that they can't have gone FUBAR'd already! Will strip carb down tomoz to see if the lies within.....
  16. Cheers mate, maybe I need to try giving up the fags again. And is that you out with my Mrs again, in ur avatar. We'll have to have words...
  17. If they do come back and you sic the dog on them Sasha, please make sure you record their discomfort and pain of learning the error of their ways at the jaws of your hound. Then post your video here so that the discerning members of this forum may share the smug satisfaction that sometimes "these types" do receive the righteous summary justice that so many richly deserve and so few ever receive.
  18. Look for some pointers please guys as to what might be causing the following symptons with my MS361. Had been using the saw earlier in the day with no problem. Started and ran OK It had rested for approx 2hrs before I needed to use it again. This time it suddenly became very difficult to start, its was turning over but "not firing up", for about 15-20 mins of trying (& cursing & swearing). Then It suddenly fired up and ran fine for a bout 5 mins. Just as quickly though it went from picking up the revs and cutting just fine, to a short idle period (seconds) to hitting the trigger for my next cut only to have the saw coughing and pluttering, and failing to pick up the revs at all. When I take my hand off the trigger, the saw just stalls out. It starts again with difficulty. But its is still sputtering and not picking up the revs, although the chain is moving. The saw has recently (within the last month) had a new spark plug and fuel filter fitted. Over the last few weeks the saw has been tempremental at re-starting from "warm" without the chainbrake being off! (Though why should this make a difference?) Was gonna have a poke and a fettle at it this weekend to see if I can find/remedy the problem. Any thoughts on where I should start looking.............. Many thanks in advance.
  19. Basically, a motorised wheelbarrow! See here:- Micro Arb Truc | Timber Transport | For Tree Surgeons | Woodland Owners
  20. Hate to say it guys....... but you probably have'nt seen anything yet! With the "heatwave" forecasted to last into next month and the schools about to finish for the summer holidays I would'nt be surprised 100's; 1000's probably 100's of 1000's of acres of heath, moor, wood and forest going up in smoke this summer.
  21. 'Tis very sad but true, overhead costs are continually rising. But in the current climate and with everyman and his dog offering tree surgery or trying to get in the game my day rate has'nt risen one penny in over four years.
  22. Sorry I cannot answer your question directly. But from the item presented on this evenings Countryfile program on BBC1, the impression I get is that CF will act more quickly on younger Ash trees than it will on older mature trees. It will take upto 10 years or more before the full impact on individual trees can be ascertained, but with the exception of 2-5% of the ash tree stock that have a natural immunity, ALL will eventually succumb to this fungus! So all ash trees including veterans are likely to get this disease, its just a question of time........
  23. Wait until end of next year, when they pull out of Afganhistan (NOT BEFORE TIME, they need another 900 years before the bloody heathens there understand that we live in the 21st century not the dark ages!!!) then there will be a bonanza of surplus kit! Are the Kiwi's in Afgan then?
  24. As per title, has anyone got a copy of this book, in the attached link, and is it any use & worth having in the home library? ARBORIST KNOTS for CLIMBING & RIGGING, TREE SURGEON, TREE SURGERY, FORESTRY | eBay
