  1. Good effort mate.
  2. I'm not sure I'll want a pair if they give you a strangely tall or weirdly alien looking pointy head like it did to these chaps.....
  3. Haha, made me chuckle. Our luvverly Scottish cousins, always good for a grin. It'll be such a shame when they leave us next year to become just another "Johnny foreigner". Then we'll have another bunch of bloody immigrants tryin to smuggle themselves across the border to steal our jobs 'an our wimmin, whilst torturing our language with their broken English!
  4. Yep. Just 35 Councils in England, so not everywhere, and 1 unitary council in Wales. Absolutely. The normal status quo is maintained by the mainstream parties because of voter apathy. If you don't exercise your right to vote, then you don't really have any right to complain when local or national political decisions distrupt your day to day life. Or maybe vote for the former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, as his alter ego "The Terminator"
  5. I'll second that, never ceases to amaze how long it takes some groundies to wrestle and maul a bit of brash on the deck before they think about untying the rope and get it back to the climber. Note to groundies. Once its safely on the ground, leave the chuffin brash alone, untie the rope first & pass it back to climber, THEN you can start mauling the brash and get it out of the landing zone. Return to tree, the next piece is ready to go. Repeat! Simples.
  6. Saw swallows & house martins over the River Kent in centre of Kendal on Thursday 18th. Had been to the same site exactly a week before and had seen nary a sign of either. Amazing the difference in a week. Temp increase three fold; bare, cold & grey trees/shrubs burst into a green haze and the migratory birds return. Thank the gods that the interminable winter now finally seems to be over.
  7. CS units 30/31/38/39 are all you really need to get started mate. Save your coin for now, and you can always take more tickets at a later date. And they will be easier once you get a bit of experience under your belt. Doubt you would find any potential employer who would knock you back with those four basic tickets and a positive mental attitude. Good luck with your new career.
  8. Game over! Can't be topped that..... Quality.
  9. Another bleak statistic to add to the grim roll call of stolen tools. A company I do some work for was broken into last night (Thursday) in the South Manchester area, nr. Manchester Airport. Scumbags, entered an Ag shed where the tools & vehicles are stored. Smashed off the padlock on the trucks storage locker, and had it away with an MS660; MS362 & MS201
  10. Tragic that the old boy died. But what did he think he was playing at wandering into a public park to cut down a tree for firewood.
  11. Mental! Brilliant!! Awesome!!!
  12. If you have'nt made up your mind yet, then I'd propose having a look at the Oregon Waipua trousers. A nice and light trouser which don't seem to rip to shreds as quick as a pair of Stihl Hi-Flex as soon as you show them anything sharp! But very reasonably priced compared to the mega bucks Pfanner range. I have a pair, size small, for a 30in waist, but still wear a belt. Not sure if the are available Xs.
  13. No Paul. No one is going to take 20% of your bank balance here in the UK to pay for the debt crisis in Cyprus. However if you have a secret hoard of more than €100,00 stashed away in the Bank of Cyprus, central branch in Nicosia then its going to cost ya.
  14. I'd go limes. Shameful behaviour nonetheless.
  15. Unless its a Land/Range Rover, are'nt they all imports????
  16. Ooooh, sorry mate, classic newbie error. Read his ad, he says "PM for details" To send him a PM, move your mouse pointer over the members name and left-click mouse button. A small drop down menu will appear, select the "send the user a private message" option. Good luck.
  17. Wow. Some amazing pics there. Here's a pic of horse logging Alaskan styley.
  18. I just wish the England supporters band would get banned, their bloody racket get on my nerves. Its the same 2 or 3 tunes over and over and over again. At least they're not as close to the camera microphones tonight as they were during the San Marino game.
  19. Easy. Give the lady your best quote to do the job. If she agrees, then do the job. Simples! Oh, and don't let her down at the last minute.
  20. Nice set of pics Ben. But I really think you to ought to get your groundy some proper PPE. At least get her a pair of boots, she might break a nail and sue your limey ass in them flipflops.
  21. B&Q do a peat free compost, that has a strange musty smell, looking at its structure and noticing a few tiny bits of plastic, I get the impression the compost is made up from composted remains of the councils green bin collections. But you do need to watch out for those special offers. B&Q were offering 3 x 50ltr bags for £12, but a single 125ltr bag cost only £5.98. So with B&Q's offer I could of got 150ltrs for £12, or for the same price I could get 250ltrs with two of the bigger bags. So mind you don't get blinded so much by them "special offers" that you actually miss a real bargain. And has anyone tried "re-mineralising" their soil by adding some volcano ash/dust? Again another product I have seen advertised in one of my seed catalogues, but B&Q also sell it in 20kg bags. If so did it actually make a difference or is it just another gimmick?
  22. Depends on what time of the year and what species made it. I've found wood pidgeons nesting in Feb and ring neck doves still raising a brood in October! So unless the entire Arb & Forestry industry only works for 3 months of the year from Nov - Jan, then he's probably not the only one "guilty" of moving a few nests!
  23. So has anyone got anything on the go yet? Albeit this cold snap may deter some from even thinking its worthwhile at the moment. Since my last post, I've managed to get all my beds turned over and manured, with the exception of the "root crop" bed. One of the firms I work for rent yard space on a cattle farm. So I was able to fill up my little van with a few bags of well rotted cow manure. Yum! During the fasle dawn spring before this weeks return to winter I managed to plant out my onions (Unwins - 50 assorted) yellow; white & red. Garlic - white & red (Unwins again). Shallots - Red Gourmet (yep Unwins again). Some of the garlic I have planted in the root bed as companion plants for my carrots. I have had terrible problems with carrot fly, something I've read suggested planting garlic with carrots as it masks the scent (of the carrots). Moderatly successful last year. Although this was backed up with two applications of "Nemasys" a nematode biological control for carrot fly and a few other veggie munching beasties. Carrot seeds sown - Resistafly & Nandor (both with some resistance to carrot fly), in the same bed I've also sown parsnips - Gladiator. Red & white spring onion seed sown & some Pak Choi - Ruby in the salad bed. Thats all thats in the ground at the moment, may sow some brassicas and peas this wk/end, but they will be in pots and kept under cover until at least May time before planting out. Seed potatoes are chitting at the moment, and hoping to get them in the ground by the end of this month. Once its had chance to start warming up again after this current cold spell. Three varieties on the go. 1st early - Casablanca; 2nd early - Albrt Bartlett - Anya & main crop - Albrt Bartlett - Apache
  24. Yes mate you can advertise your services any time you like. However, as others have already mentioned getting some experience under your belt should be the next logical step! I passed CS30,31,38,39 all in the same month, but it was probably 3-4 yrs before I could competently and confidently tackle most tree climbing scenarios. The courses are really only designed to teach you the basics and test your competency at learning the basics. Likewise, as advised if you're determined to go it alone you are recommened to ensure that you have public liability insurance for yourself and employers liability insurance to cover you if you bring someone to help you, even on a casual basis.
  25. awesome. I would love to have a crack at that.........
