You’re very defensive about how powerful your tools are - it’s frankly a meaningless and ridiculous thing to get your knickers in a twist over. This guy seems to know it flicks your switch and uses it against you (I’d imagine he keeps stating it to get you to try and prove him wrong and do the job quicker/cheaper). He is definitely smarter than you are - try and learn from this episode.

This is the heavy counterweight on the E27 @doobin - I know it is as the original one didn’t stick out like this.

Will do in the morning. Mine was already somewhere in the dealer network, not built to order (I wish it had of been for the time I ended up waiting for it though) so they nailed my options to it before delivery.

I don’t think it is standard mate, mine came without and it took ages for the heavier counterweight I ordered it with to get to the dealer’s.

I’ve got an E27 (non-Z) bobcat with additional counterweight and it is well planted, and has only minimal rear overhang. Might be worth a look Steven.

Have you tried one? You can lose quite a bit of stability (and they sometimes supply them with smaller front ends and less power to compensate).

Yeah, mine’s an Explorer 95. Definitely the same tractor in different clothes. I don’t blame you re the loader - really handy thing to have. I wish I owned a Lambo though!!!

I think that Lambo is pretty much the same as this SAME I’ve recently acquired... I’d possibly be interested in your loader if you ended up selling it (and it fits this little orange beasty!).

Self-serving was perhaps a bit strong (apologies if any consultants (self-serving or not) were offended). Obviously the incredibly important knowledge contained within the enormous brains of arboricultural consultants (and their mates who specialise in soil, and their other mates who specialise in structures) is required on many, many occasions to help guide and direct those poor souls whose limited knowledge and understanding of a particular subject may otherwise lead them into unfavourable predicaments. This in my opinion is not one of those occasions however. I cannot in any way see a house-insurance policy refusing to pay out for heave claims if such an event occurred in the future following removal (which is absolute worst-case-scenario). There is no history of subsidence, the trees are younger than the house, the owner in no way could be seen as reckless (and subsequently liable) if they removed their trees from their garden. Get it felled is still my advice - I’m certain that the cost of any consultancy involvement will be significantly more than the actual cost of removal.

But there is no foreknowledge. There isn’t any history of subsidence so why would anyone need to defend their position if heave occurred at a later date following removal? It would simply become an insurance issue surely? All a report would do is add cost and provide unnecessary work for a multitude of self-serving consultants (none of which will give a definitive answer on their own, they will all require input from consultants in other fields). Save a couple of grand, get it felled, move on with life.

I’m surprised that the operator’s manual doesn’t stipulate NOT using any lube if it is that critical. I’m certain that not lubricating bolts before torquing isn’t covered in any NPTC or Lantra chipper training (the unofficial industry benchmarks, and in reality a level of training that is over-and-above what should be anticipated by a manufacturer of anyone operating and maintaining a chipper). It surely can’t be assumed by a manufacturer that a chipper operator would know that torquing up bolts with lube on them might be an unsafe practice? If it makes that much difference then the manual should stipulate cleaning the threads with brake cleaner etc before mounting?

I’ve been cutting trees down in the UK for 20 years and have only had one job where I absolutely needed a bigger-than-36’’ bar (which is the only reason other than milling that anyone would need an 880). Big heavy cumbersome things - but when you need one there’s not many other options!

To stop it marking firm ground - yes. As a load-bearing ‘bogmat’ to aid flotation across soft ground - no. Either way you won’t break the stock board with your digger, it is incredibly resilient.
