  1. I laboured on a ‘log cabin’ house build many years ago and it was essentially a complicated version of one of these. It was very cleverly designed and looked pretty good but was essentially a load of crap, and would have been very very difficult to repair when it started to rot out. It wasn’t even cheap - they could have pretty much built a proper house for the same money!!!
  2. I agree - for the money you really cannot fault the quality and attention to detail that’s gone into them. Everything (down to the last nut and washer) is in the box, and the instructions are brilliant. Components are all very accurately fabricated and the quality of the finish is much better than I expected too!
  3. Stack it all up and get the lot whole-tree chipped for biomass. Fell the trees whole where possible and move them mechanically to the chipping point. Will require some thought with regards public access/exclusion zones whilst works take place but so will dealing with 60 trees in a more conventional manner. The bulk of works can then be undertaken from air conditioned cabs, reducing any potential health risks.
  4. I wouldn’t worry Stubby - this guy is clearly a troll looking for attention. Strange MO but the internet is full of weird and wonderful characters.
  5. Where these are designed to be used the wheels are a bit ‘secondary’ tbh - most positioning needs to be assisted with the bucket/whatever is hanging off the front. Obviously 4 wheels massively increases ease of mobility, but isn’t really that much of a necessity ‘in-work’. A firm mounted a couple of big Teupen mewps onto Menzi base units instead of the digging equipment - they were displayed at the APF. Mega looking (and no doubt costing!) bits of kit but I couldn’t help but think in the real world they probably weren’t anywhere near as versatile as hoped as they didn’t have the digging arm to aid mobility/climb over obstacles etc. I’ve no personal experience of the machines in action and hope that my thoughts were wrong as they would be incredibly expensive white elephants otherwise!
  6. This is an evolution of the design, and shows what this style of machine is capable of -
  7. They probably don’t have them in stock but will sell them to you anyway tbh. Waste of time looking at their prices nowadays, useless outfit IME.
  8. I think you’d safely have the £4k difference tied up in the machine come resale time - I wouldn’t necessarily ignore the more expensive ‘premium’ machine if you are looking at spending that sort of dosh in the first place pal. Make sure any digger quotes are ‘like-for-like’ though, as buckets/quickhitch etc can soon add a grand plus here and there. Same with extra services/radio/ etc etc - ensure you are comparing apples with apples. Whatever you buy, get 2x proportional 2 way services on the joysticks - this can be very expensive to sort later and anything set up otherwise is a real compromise. I’m personally hanging back from buying much at the moment, I think the wheels are about to fall off the economy shortly and a few quid in the bank probably isn’t a bad idea. If my hunch is right (and I hope it isn’t!) then there will be cheaper second hand machines on the market soon enough…
  9. What sort of dosh is a new Sany mate? How much more for something mainstream?
  10. Hey up - does anyone on here have a roboflail they operate within the M25? I’ve got a embankment that needs clearing at Erith (near the QE2 bridge). Cheers, Dan
  11. Sorry to hear this Pete - very shocking story.
  12. Not yet, but I am going to buy something and that looks a good setup.
  13. Whatever you make, build two and I’ll buy one off you mate!
  14. Insane money - there was a second hand one advertised for over £200k! Mega tool with a much bigger engine and pump for mulching though, not just a different undercarriage.
  15. Might have been worth asking these questions before buying the house maybe?…
  16. I was in Morzine when you posted this - the untouched snow on the mountains was orange, pretty mad to see!
  17. These are good if you have a spare piece of matching timber to make your own matching countersunk plugs https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-plug-cutter-countersink-set-4-pieces/6418V?tc=MA8&ds_kid=92700055262507123&ds_rl=1244066&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3IqSBhCoARIsAMBkTb2foxpojCxgEjj0lwRowfNeQDSh00GtQqNHxNKqzYmNRZckchsH7BYaAhLtEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
  18. Mine is on RSJs too - I wanted it to be strong enough to not flex so I don’t have to worry too much about levelling it. A mate has a Norwood on their trailer kit and never bothers towing it anywhere as it needs a lot of levelling up each time you move it - I’m way too lazy for that so am trying to make my mill as rigid as possible!
  19. I’m building exactly this right now, but on a 16 foot Bateson trailer. The other benefit (as far as I’m concerned) is that I’ll be able to store the mill up on the top of some racking out of the way when not in use.
  20. I don’t understand why all new buildings aren’t stipulated to have solar arrays as roof structures. We clear sites for warehouse construction - these buildings cover acres of ground. Why can’t it be a planning condition that they must be built oriented to optimise rooftop solar? It’s the same with new farm buildings etc. There are plenty of little steps that could be taken/forced upon us that I feel could/should be implemented - I certainly don’t feel that ‘the green agenda’ as it stands is anything other than smoke-and-mirrors woke bullshit that does nothing to address any perceived issues (it simply moves the problems elsewhere).
  21. The entire thing is a scam - there are apparent online providers (which is more than enough adequate input for this ‘qualification’) but the reality is none of them actually offer the course online as they can rinse more money out of you face-to-face. In my opinion you’ll get better value ignoring the ROLO bollox and putting your lads through a plant operator etc course that might offer other value to the business (but ultimately generate the CSCS/NPORS number that you are in need of)….
  22. Reporting for duty sir! If someone trespassed across my land, dug it up and planted their infrastructure (from which I received no benefit) without my consent then I wouldn’t think twice about chopping it down. I’d also pursue them for criminal damage and loss of crop if possible.
