  1. I had exactly this with sawdust build up. I have also had 6 pairs where the sole has split in one or both boots along the side where the steel plate sits inside, all after less than 6 months wear. It is difficult to complain too loudly as Haix and/or their dealers have replaced them each time but I can't bring myself to buy another pair unless the design has changed as it is now embarrassing. This is unfortunate as I really like these boots - they are otherwise very well made and extremely comfortable.
  2. Check the end of the crank isn't scored/damaged where the needle roller bearing runs. If it is then that will be likely be the answer to most of your problems (but is hugely expensive to repair unfortunately).
  3. So's this! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mmh-ew1swD4]Monster Energy: Ballistic B.J. Baldwin - #RECOIL - YouTube[/ame]
  4. I charge £80/hour (plus VAT) to chip others' arisings as a filler-in job, but that is with an operator and we don't chip anything undesirable (roots, fences, anything that might have nails in, sweepings etc). I would imagine that your entire hedge would easily be chipped in an hour if it is stacked ready to chip and you can get the machine near it - if not the costs quickly escalate. If you can have a fire I would do so if I were you.
  5. Arborisk were excellent with me, and competitive at renewal.
  6. I've got an 11 tonne KTS trailer with the 6.7m crane, and I think it is excellent! I have never done it yet myself, but the crane comes away from the trailer very easily for 3pl mounting (I think it is 8 bolts to undo from memory, which you release once the crane is held by the 3pl). My only concern (and I would imagine it would be the same with any equivalent set up) is where to mount the spool block when carrying the crane on the 3pl. At present I have the spools mounted on a frame that attaches to the top-link holes on the tractor. I went down this route for ease of removal when swapping between the trailer and other implements. It is still an awkward job to do on your own though, as the spool block and hoses are cumbersome. The spool block is theoretically designed to hang off the lower window frame, but I'm not sure what tractors would allow that either. The hoses will almost certainly foul on the top link when 3pl mounting, and it is a heavy thing to hang off the window frame there. If I was going to use the crane on the 3pl I think I would look at a different mounting solution for the spoolblock (probably inside the cab) and fit the hoses with quick release couplings, to allow easy crane removal. I think it would be great having the crane on the linkage though - if you go down this route with either option please put up a couple of pics.
  7. I thought that - particularly second time around. Sounds like someone doesn't like you (or you have a poor mechanic)...
  8. This sounds right to me - it is quite possibly an electrical fault. Check also that any fuse carriers aren't corroded, and look at wiring to the key.
  9. That's too expensive - I'll give £20/cube but only if you can supply 1000 cube...
  10. Ha ha! I'm pleased with mine, not had any issues yet and it has had a bit of abuse (it's been on its side twice...)
  11. It might be worth having a chat with Mark at Ryetec - he supplies KTS cranes and has roof mounted themas far as I know. Cheaper and stronger than Botex!
  12. Any more pics of the stirling engined fan? And price?
  13. Remember - if you get every job you quote for then you are possibly too cheap...
  14. A mate of mine fits dust suppression vapour sprinklers - he kitted out a plant near Nottingham that turns turkey and chicken waste products (feathers, heads, feet, giblets etc) into resalable products. The feathers all get mashed up and compressed, and this is sold as the protein additive used in some animal feeds (the dog food bag will probably advertise its protein content somewhere). Apparently the place was absolutely hanging...
  15. I've got a 1996 300tdi Hicap with 130k miles on it, no MOT or tax, is rough but solid. Sound bulkhead and body, good chassis (may need a patch on an outrigger for MOT). Engine is down on power - I suspect fuel pump and/or injectors could do with looking at. It fires up instantly and doesn't use oil or water though. It needs to go and will probably end up on ebay when I get a minute - make me an offer if interested.
  16. Ours do that - they are rubbish IMO. There is a thread on here somewhere with a fix but I'm not sure where. Try searching HT131
  17. Those figures are nowhere near correct for disc bladed machines in my experience. If Saturn's discs are £25 each (for argument's sake) then you are using/renewing 6 blades per machine per month?!? What are you chipping? Houses?
  18. Great chipper! Why didn't you go for the straight fell?
  19. Are there any British industrial engine manufacturers? I think JCB make their own engines now (I'm not sure where though) and Perkins used to manufacture in the UK (even though they are now an American company). Do any of the foreign manufacturers build their engines in Britain (in the same way that Nissan and Honda build cars over here)? It is a shame that it is so difficult to buy British manufactured products nowadays, and there is such confusion as to what actually is 'Made in Britain'.
  20. Belts are a wear part, but I'd have thought that something is not right with a new machine if it eats belts within 12 months personally. There would need to be a serious operator error/malicious damage, serious lack of maintenance, or a design/manufacturing defect IMO.
  21. Have a look at KTS too - I bought an 11 tonne with 6.7m crane and I'm well pleased with it.
  22. Arrrggghhhhh!!!!!!! That is sh1t news - it always seems to go that way somehow.
