  1. Yes, sorry, just being a knobhead! Nice reduction on poplars are a bit of a waste of time/money/effort in my opinion. Pollarding as low as the customer will allow will be best in the long term. But a bit more than just a trunk would be best.
  2. Reduce it to the red line below
  3. Which is why I opted for a tool box on mine and passed on the information about weights, 100 kgs less for a tool box is a good step in the right direction .
  4. Craig asked me to post this picture of the work climb tree.
  5. But what if you havent got three bulky blokes one day? Wasted space? I think we should stick to the original question, I dont think he was bothered about axle weights, but (going by the clues) I think he wanted to know about the difference in weights of a double cab or (by my understanding) one with a roller shutter tool locker.
  6. Surely a tool box would do the same? i.e push the tipping section further back?
  7. I dont know about transits but when I was looking at LDV (I have a weight chart somewhere) the tool box option was IIRC 100kgs light than a double cab but that would have included the seats.
  8. Your getting in a muddle!! I was talking about the new versus old way of doing the speedclimb. Both are safe, but he new one is more like tree work. I wouldnt assume that PNW is up to date with new methods. Europe usually leads the way in these things. The rescue is pretty much the same as its ever been. You dont need to do first aid in the tree but you can say what you would be doing, thats the role play.
  9. You put the tools in the back of the hilux, or whatever vehicle you use to follow the mog around so you have something to get home in when it breaks down. We used to use a cabstar for that purpose, and carrying the tools.
  10. Yes, its just more backside covering from stihl IMO. But the new saws do come with full chisel chain which will soon ruin your chainswaw kecks. Might be best to switch to the old style semi chisel if your not going to use the scabbard.
  11. Yes, both at once and make it have to do some work, but not sure about August?!
  12. Ah, I didn't catch on that it was mike!! Are you working out there at the moment then?
  13. Ask him how much he pays at the moment then.
  14. If you have been given it to cut then do it and put your bill in after. If they want a quote then pedroski is correct. Put a quot ein and if its too high then you wont get the work and you will know what "too high" is.
  15. Yes, but I didnt take any photos so it didnt happen!!
  16. He is not comfortable standing there though!! You can tell by his stance, unless he hadnt finished standing upright yet and the picture was taken too soon, but my guess is he is hunched like that cos he's clenching!! Wuss!!
  17. The good olde days hey!! Only trouble with that is a) its completly not relevant to how we work, and b) you tend to get a huge spread on times. The new method seemes to get a much closer grouping of times. The best still win, but everybody else has a chance of at least getting a point. So it might be that the BC comp still uses the old method. Dan, it might be worth checking that out, but its not really a problem, you will just do on the day what you told.
  18. A lot of people there seemed to think they were doing business just by talking about it. I know SO many people like that!!!!!!! It should be ok for business type businesses, if that makes sense, like payroll and accounts, or printing etc. every business needs those, but very few need an arborists. My old boss went to one and lapped up all the self congratulation but never got any work out of!
  19. Its only a trickle outlet, you wont actually power anything just recharge stuff. Could be as simple as hot air turning a little turbine/generator.
  20. And with the recsue, there are no speed points. There is a set time to complete within, but no points for being the fastest. SO actually best to use as much of that time as possible gaining points for the rescue. In the event of a tie in points, only then will time be taken into account. There is points for efficiency though, so if you get it all done in very good time then you could get bonus for that, but if you forgot to do somethings in the middle then fast time wont help much. Yes, it did all get a bit geeky for a while, but in recent years its gone back to just being the best rescue wins it, the play acting seems to have calmed down a bit, but if you know anyone with an ambulance or helicopter that could arrive at exactly the right time then I reckon there would be a bonus for that!!
  21. The speed climb has changed a bit now, so Dan is more accurate in his observations of how it works. Yes, you are on a normal climbing system with friction hitch. YOu pull yourself up and someone pulls in the slack for you. There are a couple of bells on branch to get on the way up so you just shout to the groundcrew to let go so you have full control, and then when you continue up the tree you shout for them to take in slack again. This is JT at last years UKI TCC. Probably a winning climb (cant remember) or top three at least. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9szjnvdpMk]Jon Speed climb - YouTube[/ame]
  22. Yes, the runners have to buy them, £199.00 I think they are, might be wrong though.
  23. Do you think you have re-couped all that money spent on training/kit yet? I mean, have you earned a living and enough extra to pay for everything. I know it was already paid for from your previous job, but you still need to be able to have paid for it from arb work, otherwise it was not a good investment (other than doing a job you prefer, which of course has an unmeasurable value).
