  1. Is there an automatic block on you tube video's or is their a technique to master for this forum. On other forums I just enter the url and it pops up. I really would like to have some feedback on the Palax used as a kindling machine and the two you tube video's explained exactly the type of splitting head I am looking for.
  2. As the last youtube video did not work maybe this will explain the sort of kindling head I am looking to convert the Palax. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfsMMQk2muY&feature=related[/ame] Obviously I am useless at getting youtube videos to work on this forum

  4. Clueless The Jinma has been very good although it is the 2 cyl engine which is no longer available due to European emmissions standards hence all spare parts have to come from America. Discovered on day one that the engine was designed to run on kerosene so have used kerosene all the time. Whats gone wrong with it. Electrics lasted about 2 days apart from starter and alternator but then who needs to work when its dark and we never go on the roads for indicators. Steering arm has been the weak link with castings having to be drilled and retapped with larger bolts. Hydraulic 'O' ring fails on regular basis but at 10p a go not a major issue . Front hub collapsed due to lack of oil and finally 6 months ago a new fuel pump as the bearings had collapsed. Would I get another Jinma yes but only if the quality was as good as my early import and definitely only the 2 cyl engine not the gutless 3 cyl. For the money I have been well pleased using all the old fergy equipment as well as newer Kuhn rotavator and moutainpress mini round baler.
  5. I have a chinese jinma tractor which is now 11 years old with approx 6000 hours on the clock. Tyres are still about 40% although I do no roadwork at all. In the last year started to crack and break chuncks of rubber off down the centre of the tyre. Certainly lasted better than expected especially as I use with reduced air pressure on our boggy land.
  6. If anybody is interested I am trying to get my Heizohack chipper to produce kiln dried woodchip suitable for direct feed into a briquette machine. I started by using a 50mm screen with infeed as slow as possible and 800 rpm chip speed. The target is to get woodchip less than 10mm for the briquette machine. Actual output approx 50% less than 10mm. I have now changed the screen to 30mm and still using a slow infeed and 800 rpm, approx 90% of output is less than 10mm. I really need a 10mm screen but Heizohack do not manufacture one so I may just have to sieve the 90% and take out the oversize element.
  7. How much for seasoned soft wood per cube ?? Around here every man and his dog has started producing logs but mainly softwood which if the price is low enough I can see hitting the hardwood market.
  8. I never clip wings as we have foxes and I like to think the chicken has a fighting chance of flying away. Our chickens will hop over 3ft but think twice about jumping 6ft.
  9. My dry stone wall tutor insisted that you walked along the top of the finished wall to prove the standard of workmanship. In this case they have cheated by concreting the headers.
  10. Try the timber ferries sailing out of Grimsby you might be able to get a special one off deal and they sometimes have a spare cabin.
  11. Fitted new blow off valve not made the slightest difference. Blow off appeared to be from brake servo traced back and found very thin air pipe had been jiffy strapped and come undone. replaced with proper connector and hey presto job done. Now does anyone want a perfectly good blow off valve??. As for chipper now up and running which I put down to a loose electrical connection thanks to all for advice. What is the best speed to run at firewoodman suggests 640 Alex suggested 800 and the manual recommends 750. Its all softwood I am chipping if that makes a difference some green with moisture content of 50-60% and some kiln died at 15-20%.
  12. Thanks for the help. I will give it all a try but first I need to fix the MB Trac which has just started blowing off at 5 bar instead of 8 bar making it impossible to engage the PTO. Got a new blow off valve from A C Price so while I was there picked up a manual for the Chipper. Alex suggested to wire direct through a fuse from the battery to the control box as the 7 pin connector is not reliable and if it is wired direct you do not lose the settings every time the ignition is switched off.
  13. Anybody have an operators manual for a Heizohack 6-300 which they could email to me. Everything seems right but I cannot get the feed rollers to start. Anybody with any ideas on what I should be doing???
  14. How much are you looking to spend. I spent 3 months trying to find what your looking for. Ended up with a good deal on an ex demo Kesla trailer and crane from Caladonian forestry and a forward control MB Trac 1000 but still waiting for Alex at A C Price to put forestry guards on it. At the time what was on the market seemed very expensive or fit for the scrap yard.
  15. I just hope he was fully insured and the family receives the money without any hassell. It can never replace a life but it should relieve the financial stress. In view of these fatalities I can forsee another round of insurance premium hikes, restrictions put on climbing heights and who is allowed to climb. Maybe it is time for all trees over a certain height to be tackled from an aerial platform but there again you can be killed falling off a pair of steps.
  16. Even humans can end up with copper poisoning. I would not recommend eating rhubarb cooked in a copper pan on a regular basis.
  17. Copper nails do work but they need to be pure copper buried in the ground to allow the copper to dissolve into the tree. You can also do the same effect with copper pipe. Obviously the bigger the tree the more it takes to kill it.
  18. I was really referring to the effect of the prevailing wind which can make specimen trees lop sided.
  19. What Gareth said plus take a compass bearing and replant in same direction if possible.
  20. Have a look at Multitek 2040XP2 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fwcqlbnlTk&feature=related[/ame] I am sure something similar could be made for the palax
  21. Can you get a splitter blade which can turn the Palax into a kindling machine
  22. Lets not be pessimistic. As oil runs out history has shown that wood is an easy alternative to turn into everyday fuels so I see the forest area of the UK increasing dramatically.
  23. You can pick up a cheap subaru legacy and trailer. 4WD and estate makes insurance cheaper.
  24. If anybody wants to practice or learn you are quite welcome to come to the farm. Everything from very easy level walling to very steep hill walling.
  25. Andy Sorry for not replying. Majority of my output at the moment is not from Virgin Timber sources so cannot be used in domestic stoves only commercial Waste Incineration Directive approved boilers. If your still interested send me a PM
