Okay dont laugh. If you dont try the equipment you never know if its any good. Anyway just bought an Oregon CS 1500 mains electric chainsaw for use in the yard. Has anyone experience of the saw and its ability to sharpen itself. Not impressed with the cheap chain it comes with so was wondering whether I could use my existing bar and chains off my Husky.

Yes it is but I dont think ebay is the right place to advertise it as its to specialist. Was thinking of agriffaires or mascus for a more targeted audience.

OK with the OP as had it within a month of being diagnosed which was excellent. Now on road to recovery. As for chipper It seems the fashion to respray to tart it up in the new Heizohack colours but I dont know whether it will be worth doing.

Wife has been lucky to get fast track op while all this covid has been on but it certainly makes you focus on lifes priorities. As for chipper its a Heizohack 6-300 with brash press on 3 pt link.

Only reason why I am trying to sell mine is due to early retirement as wife has just had cancer op so priorities have now changed.

Thinking the smaller end of the market like the Heizohack 6-300 which dealers are quoting at 20-30k. Would have thought compared to that a low houred machine at 15k would have been an easy sale.

Is there a market for used biomass chippers or do the dealers have a cartel on used machines. I realise the market is limited but the dealers do seem to quote crazy prices for machines which have obviously just had a quick respray to tart them up.

Think those days have long gone. If its classed as transport then its white diesel, think it was the carting sewage sludge case which changed everything.

Good point. Can only speak in respect of forestry operation but hoops I jumped through to satisfy HMRC are quite considerable. The main points being share farming and white diesel.

Quite agree thats why I have air brakes. We have steep hills here and I just dont trust hydraulic brakes.

In that case you just need a forwarding trailer which can handle the capacity of a tree. The weight in relation to the size of a 100hp tractor would make brakes on the trailer irrelevant as the tractor brakes would be sufficient. However the law has moved on and trailer brakes are now compulsory on public roads.

Nail on the head. People just assume because its a 14 tonne trailer you fill it with a few sticks and thats what it will weigh.

If its that steep and sticky then a winch on the tractor becomes very handy. -
In that case go as large as your tractor will pull safely but with hgv standard air brakes so at least you can stop safely. Nothing more frustrating than having to do 3 journeys with a forwarding trailer when you only need to do one with a proper trailer.

Is the trailer for extracting to roadside within a wood or transporting from roadside on public roads back to a farm. I have timber forwarder for operation within the wood where brakes on the trailer are really irrelevant. Road trailer different matter as high speed and 3 times the weight of the forwarding trailer. ie 3x 3mtr bunks rather than 1x 3mtr bunk. With road trailer timber crane on tractor 3 point link so you can go alongside the trailer to load each bunk.

I've forgotten. Is it a bender? Mine is a similar bender but reverse drive. Still no joy in finding a gearbox.

Is there a problem if your operating as a commercial forest with timber sales that are tax exempt what figure do you use as turnover, Looking at the bank forms there requesting turnover as reported on a self assessment return which for tax exempt sales would be zero which would give you no loan. Am I missing something.

I have a rack saw that would easily do that but I would not risk using it as a fixed bench with that size blade as you dont want to be at the sharp end if a blade of that size grabs the timber. -

Think where talking a different scale using IBC's to dry logs. My tunnels are minimum 7 mtrs wide and can store 4 IBC's per mtr length of tunnel. Think these tunnels are only 3-4 mtrs wide so probably 2 IBC's per mtr length.
