  1. Outstanding job.
  2. Just heard on the news but strangely enough nothing through on GNS yet. They seem to have been coming all day but just little ones. Just get a few more bottles down ya neck and that'll sort it for the evening. I'll have a bottle of Perri for you. Queenstown starting to look a nice option bro?
  3. I have to say that I actually haven't heard of the term "crown clean". I left the UK in 98, hadn't heard it up until then and neither have I heard it in NZ. Never heard the councils refer to a crown clean either so it's all new to me I'm afraid.
  4. Here's how it's done lads. Pinched this off my mates facebook page. He works for a local utility outfit and this comes supplied on the truck.
  5. Hmmmm not sure whether to take some of the sexist comments on this thread with a grain of salt or not. For the record I've worked with, or had work for me, several female arborists (including Chrissie Spence, look her up) and all of them have put several of the guys to shame. Fine, some of them are built like a tank but several others are the opposite end of the scale and I wouldn't have a bad word said about any of them. Some left the industry because of repeat and overly sexist comments which is a great shame. Others have stuck a couple of fingers up to the idiots who think it's a man's game and just taken the head down arse up attitude until their point was proven. I also worked with a guy who was nicknamed Yeti too
  6. I switched over to the hitchclimber about a year ago after climbing on a Blakes before that. It's great for quickly advancing into the tree but you have to get used to the fact that the hitch slips until you have your full weight in it (at least that's what I've found) and it can be quite slow on the descending side of things. The knot doesn't slide as easily as some of the otehrs. Honey Brothers have a similar vid showing how to set it up but I think it's the same as the youtube one.
  7. Check out the work to residency option with immigration. You'll still need a job offer but not the quals or experience. Alternatively you can get a 3 year work visa and then work on residncy when you get there.
  8. would have thought with that avatar Mike you were an advanced arbortrist level 4.
  9. Yeah bro, wondered how many fish I could hook with that one. Most useless peace of paper ever devised I reckon. I know one guy who got issued his assessors cert, including crane and heli work, and he can't even climb a tree. And I mean quite literally. Comes in handy on work applications though; sounds all good and mighty. In reality it's a load of old testicles.
  10. I didn't give him an orginal price. I did the job for him last year with which he was happy. This year he rang someone else and didn't give me the opportunity to price the job. The other company dicked him around so he came crying back to me and now wants the job done ahead of everyone else that I've got booked in. He hasn't discussed the other companies price with me. My point is that I was second pick this time around yet he is still expecting the same favours as I would give to a loyal customer.
  11. I think this is just a wind up by somebody using a pseudonym.
  12. Is that like the numpty tax (it's actually known as the FW tax but can't say that on here) that I apply to jobs that the home owner has tried to do themselves, cocked it up and left the mess for me to sort out
  13. Saw a guy stick a couple of livers in a food processor once then proceed to drink the liquid after adding protein powder. Nearly barfed on the spot when I watched it.
  14. Doubled the price from last year and if he asks I'll tell him why. If I don't get the job it's no major as it's not that much of a job. Obviously not going to be recommended to his friends if he's willing to jump from company to company so I'm not going to worry about it. Usually, if I have someone do a good job for me I'll use them again or at least let them know I'm getting other comparison quotes. Even if a comparison quote is cheaper I won't always go for that quote but rather the outfit that had done a good job the time before.
  15. Most definately is fraud and the insurance company/companies will not only can his policies but probably press charges. There was a guy on the news here whose house burnt down. Fully covered on insurance but claimed a few little extras that he didn't actually have. Insurance company found out and refused to pay any of the insurance, house or contents, until a tv show got involved. I'd most definately be grassing him up if I could. Stuff like this helps put up your premiums.
  16. Well THAT was confusing. Several different conversations going on at once and trying to follow one or all had me in a spin. Still, I'll try again.
  17. I have to say as far as the back issue is concerned I've had no issues with the skylotec. It's got a heap of back support. Also, with the postioning of the D rings etc it seems to put less pressure on the back when hanging in the harness. I wouldn't go for a seat again though. They seem to squeeze up under pressure and start to crush the hips. Heaps more comfy in the leg loops, which also have a fair bit of padding on the skylotec. They just need a bit of adjusting to get them right.
  18. Was a little so so about the job in the first place but he seemed like a nice guy so just put it down as another job but the way he described just asking the other guy to come in it was all quite blase. It wasn't like I was even asked to quote in comparison, he just gave the other guys the go ahead. It might sound a little like sour grapes, far from it but the last time I did the job it was cheap cheap. It's one of those fiddly bitting and bobbing jobs as I call them. Lots of fluffing around for little result. Maybe I'll just charge him twice what I did last year and see if he hunts around. Before I did the job last year he had another outfit in and was busy slagging them off when I quoted last time so not sure if the same happened to me.
  19. Yup, fair enough but do I sting him big time and see if he still goes for it? Figured I probably would as it's one of those jobs that's more a pain in the proverbial. I can see it ending up as a case of "can you just take another six inches off please?"
  20. Went to look at a job yesterday that I did last year. Nothing much of a job, just a little bit of trimming and hedge trimmer work. The guy was happy with the job last year and I did it cheap. The guy asked me back to price up the same work again along with an extra tree. I'd figured I'd charge him somewhere near the same again along with the extra for the extra tree. Then he mentioned that he had rang one of the competiton and had organised for them to do the job until they gave him the run around for a couple of weeks whereupon he rang me. That got my back up a bit as usually I do a good deal for those customers loyal to me. Question is; should I just sting him hard this time for the job or is that being a bit immature? I was almost tempted to say bugger it and refuse to do it seeing as it's only a smallish job.
  21. City and Guilds in Forestry, NPTC chainsaws, National Cert in Arb, Hort and Conservation, HITO assessors qualification and 23 years on the tools from groundy through to senior project manager. The there's all the various assessments and the companies I've worked for like Utility worker, EPV operator etc.
  22. Climbed on a Willans and Petzyl before but I'm now on a Skylotec. Nice harness, comfortable but the stitching comes off around the leg loops and I can't see why they couldn't put the clips on the leg loops as well as the waist belt. Other than that it's a good harness. Had problems with the Petzyl with the D rings for side strop being too far back and you had to hunt for them but on the Kolibri they are within easy reach. Having said all that; a mate of mine had the tree motion and reckoned it was the dog dangleys. He's now been given a Buckingham and hates it.
  23. How? Where?
  24. What interests me is the fact that you knew where to find something like that
  25. I didn't even know we had a chat function. Somebody like to enlighten me as I'm not really that computer literate.
