  1. That is bad news Dave. My dogs bark and at 1.30 last night they started barking so i looked out of the window and a car was parked there but i was lucky the man was having a wee wee:lol: But it is nice to know the dogs can let me know when someone is about:001_smile:
  2. You could try Alder for the posts find some nice straight coppiced Alder it will last for years in the ground i think as half of Venice is built on Alder. And split Larch oak or chestnut rails or if you know an overstood wood how about split 4 inch Hazel rails?
  3. Our local church had similar done to it and it got Polyporus squamosus on all the large pruning wounds But it did put on new growth
  4. Goat willow for me. The wood i am working in has got Elder out in leaf:001_smile:

  6. I will take a guess that it was for fodder acorns for the deer or pigs also the leaves and the local poor would be able to take the firewood.

  8. You need to look at the bigger picture. A good tree ID book will get you hooked on trees. A good all round book is the Arboricuturalists companion or the woodmans companion or the foresters companion i have all three i am a lucky man:lol:
  9. We have two ditches and a river but the park has been untouched with deer and cattle for 500 years:001_smile:
  10. This one i will leave for habitat as it is in a wood, my second oldest tree around 1340s is in this wood also along with some other big ones. Yes stevie the park gets very very wet and trees just fall over every year. In the last gale we had i only lost boughs but every winter i lose a tree or two in wet ground:thumbdown:
