  1. Those old rack benches bring back lots of memories Cold , snowy days spent in the old saw mill Carefully setting the bench going , nocking in wedges so it dosent nip the noise and the smell , those were the days
  2. I chip for a guy who is using sawmill slab wood and he is loosing his rhi unless he buys from an accredited timber supplier this will include tree surgery waste

  4. Yes I have been planning Going to rent a 4 bed farm house with loads of buildings for workshops , and dutch barn for logs , and huge leanto for toys Next year they are planning to put biomass in hopefully so loads of heat and rads in the workshops no more brrrrr
  5. Yes I have passion for the job , and I love working , I ,know its sad , Luckily I don't do site visits , and quoits just repeat chipping for regular customers . probably the way it is going 4 days a week chipping and 1 logging , so just a few phone calls and lots of lovely maintainance mmm
  6. I have been doing 7 till 8 working through my dinner hour and all day Saturday , and moving machinery around so I can make this possible even if there is no nights and weekends that is something to look forward to
  7. Sad as well , the old guys I used to work with on the estate have all passed away now , and guess what it appears that I am the old guy on the place now

  10. I use one of these all the time it is geared up , a lot faster than the ones on you tube unfortunately its not for sale I was lucky I paid £40 for it 15 years ago and have been offered £400 not long ago I bid for one on ebay a few years ago it went for £800
  11. I am thinking of getting a cone splitter for the botex roofmount Mainly to split oversize softwood for chipping I was wondering if anyone had used one , and how do they rate them
  12. I think it is 1 tonne of timber is something like 4 cube 0f chip , but this has lots of variables
  13. I have had over 1000 blades and only had 1 problem and that was 1 that had not been cut to size , a mistake but in a batch of 200 not too bad They don't particulary wear out any quicker than more expensive ones
  14. Machines make this work so much easier and more enjoyable I have looked after that particular cedar for the last 12 years or more , hopefully it will be carved and stay there for a few years yet Some really nice pictures of that old girl
  15. On the heizohack I normaly angle grind them in situ , but sometimes I sharpen on an old belt sander with a home made jig The flat disc type machines are far better than a bench grinder and they normally come with a guide
  16. I had a greenmech a few years ago I used to put a bolt with a nut on and put the shaft into a pedastel drill set it going and use an angle grinder
  17. very true , I have seen guys with the biggest chipper they can buy with a 150 hp tractor running flat out trying to power it and not getting the output they should be getting It is very much about the full set up , getting the correct amount of power to run it , and the right size chipper for the hp
  18. What is the quality of the chip on your 260 like is it biomass quality as I am thinking of getting a 2nd chipper set up , but don't know if I should get a smaller chipper or a larger one or to try a different make
  19. yes 3 point up to the 8-400 but they are heavy I have used mine for brash and seems to work ok . although I can see the top roller conversion would be handy As you probably know to use the grab to squash the brash together to help the infeed process
  20. use the led lights you can put loads on , they hardly use any power , they dont get hot , and they can all be used on one switch

  22. Has anyone seen there is a new woodfuel magazine out , just seen it advertised on the northwoods website Looks good , logs and biomass
