1. Ill tell you at the end off the week when its finished, its going to be higher than a transit as having a 16" tailgate but if there's a lot off timber ill be taking the ifor on the landy to shift it
2. Try aviva special vehicle policys very competative for a few landy tippers I know and 300 less than any1 ells for the rb44
3. Had something like this last week as a client complaned about a tiny bit off chain oil on a pattio and wanted me to come and clean it off as she was getting the rest steam cleaned and the bloke doing it refused to clean it till the oil was removed, w t f is that all about, told her to sprincle washing powder on it a little boiling water and stand on it and ill nock a tenner off the bill as a good will jesture which is cheeper than going back to do it myself.
4. Carnt offer you any work as a little out off my area but grate story off that woman, bet she would have put up with it if mum and dad wernt loaded as it looks like she would be living way beyond her means...
5. Of course I can, same as everyone ells with a transit with a full load of chip or logs at the end of the day JUST DONT GET COURT or just use the landy if its in the back garden and not near a road.
6. Not sure why it loaded like that but never mind, im happy the guts are in and the tip angle is good so with luck by the end of the week all the ally will be on and she will be shiny. And to swinny, bugger! but not who I thought it would be!
7. Special vehicle for the purpose of roadside tree maintenance and arising material handaling, and forestry. Running on white derv and requires a certificate of road worthiness (not mot). Made possible because I am a highways agency authorised contractor as well as doing emergancy work for both them and lpa and the fact it has a fixt mounted implement for the management of trees on it (winch to you and me made it easier) Got all the stuff from dvla and vosa sorted before I bought it, do it properly 1st time saves a lot of hassle in the long run especially with living within 5mile of a vosa testing point. But like I said please dont go over this again and again as there is plenty of threds all about it ie mog v vosa etc. On a plus note work has started
8. Its exempt and 5.3ton not that 200kg makes a lot of difference
9. No the truck won't make a brew and nor will the wife now iv spent so much on it! Johny why would I need one of those?, but seriously please dont derail my thred into something that has been covered almost as much as stihl v husqvarna and no it won't run on aspen before some1 asks
10. So decision made to find someone to do the work, when still looking at landrover conversion's I had looked at one with a good quality new back on it and had noted down the name of who had made it. A F custom bodies at crook, county durham so not too far from me so I gave him a call explaning what I wanted - all possible and could I pop over so he could look at the truck as a little different. He was very helpful giving all the options and lots of good advice and getting me to think longterm about what I want out of the vehicle like places to hang loading ramps when I upgrade the stumpgrinder, a few days later a price was agreed and now the fun bit of me stripping off the old body. And true to form 1 stubborn bolt behind the derv tank took almost as long as all the rest together to undo, in total 4hrs to strip. Body for sale if any1 has a use. Actually think it looked quite cool as just a chasy cab, got a few strange looks when I picked my little girl up from school in it like that!
11. Like it, nothing like a big saw on spikes and having to cut from both sides.
12. Did that with the landy then realised i could not shut tailgate and could not get very far forward so was stuck took longer to dig it out than empty the chip and it was persisting it down and dark when finished, not happy that night!!
13. That one had no winch on which is worth over a grand as thats what one just sold for and did not include the tipper, that was an optional extra and looked like a dump truck and all steel so would have killed the load capacity.
14. The pipe is very simple and just slides over the normal spout and is hung on the frame at the truck end so no chip escapes, only blocked up once with connifer, lots of green and a very wet day.
15. Well after plenty of this, I started looking at options 1) put tipping gear under the existing body and use as is for now 2) get an old transit back from a scrapper and graft it on and fettel up some sides 3) get a whole custom made chippbox and tipper made Ahh sod it its only money (new bathroom fund) so new chippbox it is!
16. Got it from a dealer at morpeth. Only 15000 mile on the clock fully serviced and reddy to role.
17. Now to start getting it making some money and find how it likes being an arb truck. 1st job new towball and drop plate from ebay , easy! Then to hold woodchip, the canvas back was not strong enough to hold it and would be shredded in no time so I decided to line the frame with thin stock board as not too expensive and easy to work with A bit of a mod with some pipe and we wer off, over 2 times what the landy would hold with no mess but a lot of shovelling at the end of each day.
18. So after a lot of thought the decision was made I needed a bigger tuck, so do I go transit, canter, iveco, bigger landy? Do I borrow money for it? Mog would be nice but aint that rich, transit would do but overloaded easily and could do with 4x4 as do a lot of parkland work so back to hunting for a landy 130 single cab tipper. Looked at a few overpriced dogs and got fed up with this idea ! A chance posting on arbtalk got me to look at an ex army rb44 so much resurch later and this beast was parked on my drive.
19. Just thought I would start a thred about how my trucks have change over the last year to meet an increasing work load and and my love of modding thing's. Start point my landrover 130, good hard working truck but sometimes lacking in room for all that chip. Made worse by the purchasing of a brand new quadchip last september that just eats as much as we can feed it so filling the landy even quicker and more often

Tinnitus

My tinnitus is a pulsing drone in my left, similar to a hartbeat through a stethoscope, but that was caused by lots of inner ear damage from menangites in my early teens. It can be very irritating when trying to get to sleep in a silent house but not to much of a problem most of the time, its like a lot of irritating things you just learn to live with it.
21. Ahh got it, poplar is a challenge as anything a bit stringy is. Sometimes harder is easier.
22. Now I can appreciate what you ment earlier on the phone about the size of the stump, decent bit of timber, wouldn't like to tidy up that mess. Was that the fancy new head/teeth combo or just normal green teeth? I beg to differ about old cedar being soft, they may look a bit around the edge but the middle will be as the day it was cut down and some seem to get harder, well for about 10 years anyhow.....
23. If you had bought 600 yew's of a reasonable size I dare say it would have taken you longer to afford to retire
24. Gnome seems to know a lot about getting things to root well and grow, miss spent youth or a horticulture course? To risky dean, according to copper who lives opposite me the new way is little grows in micro poly tunnels in secluded places in perticular young forest or xmas tree plantation, so keep your eyes peeled But got to give your efforts a big:thumbup:
