  1. Bit harsh. Why cant I do both( actually I am landscaper and plant hirer as well as tree surgery) Being a parish councillor is a volunteer job, and I do it because I want to represent the local parish and look after the locals interests. I do massive amount of stuff unpaid, such as fixing gate posts, clearing overgrown areas, dealing with fly tipping, cutting back overhanging trees, fallen branches, litter, all unpaid. I don't do it to get work out of it
  2. What happens is, I submit a price, the clerk gets at least two more, then the council decides them at the end of a meeting, when the press and public are excluded, and that includes me. It's done in sealed envelopes, and the clerk does not reveal the name of the company until they have agreed which quite to use! I have to leave the room. In fact I just go home and let them decide. It's all above board, but a few villagers are up in arms about me pricing the work, even though not one of them has any interest in the job!
  3. I am chairman of my local parish council, and I don't even get the work! But, ask to see the tenders submitted, who they were and the prices. They cannot refuse as it's in the public domain. Then you can see if they checked the qualifications!
  4. Two waste transfer stations near me. One nearly fainted when he saw a fence panel had ivy on it, and wanted to charge me £90 for three panels. I drove to tother one, who said " get out, you don't come in often enough" although I think it was more the fact I run crusher hire business also, so I take away a lot of their skip hires! You cannot burn waste even on nov5th.,people have been prosecuted for it. I actually have mate who runs a nursery, and he hires a massive roll on roll off skip from a company called jamboree. They recycle all wood waste into biomass. I bung him few quid to throw my panels in with his. Perhaps look if you have a yard at hiring one in. You end up making money as you charge each customer a fee, the skip is only about 375 I believe.
  5. A customer has that jag. It took him from London to Cardiff no problem, but when he came back ,he stopped to charge at a service station, all charging point were used. He carried on until he had very little juice left, and he had to phone jaguar up to ask where the nearest charging point was. He just about made it to one, but it was touch and go!
  6. Yes, plus the cost if the leccy to charge it, plus the extra cost of buying a leccy car. It's much more expensive on paper
  7. Very stringy when green. Much easier when its seasoned from my experience!
  8. Batteries on a Renault zoe, £8000 to replace., 6 to 8 years expectancy. There isnt enough lithium in the world to produce enough batteries for us all to go electric. There also isnt the practicality for those that live I terraced houses with on street parking to charge their vehicles, and if everyone did so, the cables feeding the properties would all have to be upgraded to cope with the surge. All these things need to be put into consideration. Then, how will the government recoup the lost revenue from the road tax? The cost if electricity will go up, and therefore the cost of motoring increases. Its not all its cracked up to be!
  9. That link puts a spelling mistake in the search bar. Its spelling it as recyclong!
  10. Do they use some curved fire bricks?, or flat ones that use more space inside?
  11. I would agree. My stove has a blanking plate like that for a back boiler, but his has fallen out
  12. That is useful and will be added to my Ebay basket! Only the other week I brought a new stop solenoid for a crusher as I assumed it had broken, when it turned out to be a relay. I was getting power to the solenoid, it just wasnt enough. That gadget would have sorted it!
  13. How do the hydraulics connect up when you attach the grab?
  14. Processing paperwork with the council? Last time I checked, a tree felling application was free!
  15. The genny runs the cement mixer, and if I stop the mixer with a full drum, and then start it, putting it under load, no problem. Genny also runs a compressor, ordinary drill and even a small kettle! Yes it's the rcd on the genny, not a fuse, so I just flick a switch to reset it.
  16. Good idea!
  17. Its not that, as it ran it for ages before. It's an 800watt on a 3000w genny
  18. Ahh. Not sure about your first question. Yes using extension, tried plugging it in direct but gave the same result
  19. Unusual problem, whenever I plug in my sds drill to the generator, as soon as I press the trigger, it trips the generator. Have tried ,loads of other stuff plugged in, nothing else does it. If I plug in the sds to mains supply, it's also fine. So the fault is in the drill, but where? I have found if is sometimes press the switch on and off quickly, I can get the drill to run on the genny, its seems the initial startup is what's killing it
  20. Once we are out of the eu though ......? Back to original question, I know someone in a council house who has a pellet boiler, or costs them the same to run as when they were on gas. Bonus for them was council paid for the install. Their boiler is in an outhouse, so doesn't impede on the living space. They do have to but a pallet of pellets at a time, so unless you have some storage, its not great. Luckily for them, her mum lives on a farm nearby so they store the pellets and use as required
  21. I know the manitous are. They don't like towing, and my tractor is. Its hopeless towing up a hill, just slows down to a crawl
  22. I don't think they are hydrostatic though
  23. Tried that, not interested as its domestic!
  24. There actually isn't any action the council can take. You are allowed to burn wood in a woodburner to heat your house. I once complained about a not very near neighbour who was burning car tyres in his back garden. The Response I had from the council was that he could burn what he likes on his own property and nothing they could do!
  25. What about the cost of hauling a digger to your job using a low loader? That's what I see a lot of guys doing
