  1. If the starter motor is clogged up can it be cleaned out or is it a replacement job?
  2. Love it. Bought mine from Treeworker at the A.A. show in the summer and haven't regretted the price tag!
  3. A mechanically minded mate has just checked the battery levels after I have run about in it for a couple of hours and they are holding a charge. He did notice though that the starter motor doesn't kick in every time you attempt to turn the engine over so he thinks there may possible be a loose connection or even an alternator problem. When I bought the truck the diesel fuel regulator had a very small leak which has now been replaced. Do you guys know if a small but continual dripping of diesel onto the starter motor may be a factor in this problem? Thanks again for all your help from a mechanical know nowt.
  4. Thanks for all the replies guys. I've been out and checked the truck this morning. The battery charger was indicating full charge but it still didn't kick over until about the fifth attempt. There's no age on the battery but the label reads: Delco Freedom 12V 110ah R.C. 195 min C.C.A. (-18C) : BCI 800 Was thinking of getting one of these as a replacement: Numax C31 900 12V 115ah 900 cold start Will check the solinoid in the stater motor first though as recommended by Gensetsteve. Liking the X eng split charge set up David. Do you have one yourself?
  5. Well you're full of the joys of Christmas Mr Dilz!
  6. The battery on my 110 TD5 is being a real pain in this cold weather. I trickle charged it for 48 hours a fortnight ago and today it won't turn over - just a clicking sound. So I think it's time for a replacement. What battery would you chaps in the know recommend? The truck isn't used on a daily basis - say three times a week - and is not used for recreational off roading. The battery will need to be powerful enough to operate a Warn electric winch when required though. Thanks in advance for the advice.
  7. Hi Ben; Checked out the Defender Centre at Belbroughton? You'll pay a bit more but trucks come with a top notch warranty.
  8. A chap I contract to has run a few L200's and bought a brand new factory fitted tipper super cab earlier in the year.He seems pleased with it but did have to uprate the springs at a cost of £500 after finding the tow hitch was dragging on speed bumps when the back was loaded.Seems Mitsy just chop the regular bed off and replace it with a steel tipping body without uprating the suspension?!
  9. I wasn't sure about the new waterproof cream from Nikwax either; but after using it on both work and walking boots I'm well impressed. Boots don't even need to be dry when it's applied.
  10. Sneaky stuff that Blackthorn Littletree! Had an attack of the sausage fingers after reducing a thorn hedge on a building site in mid September. Same symptoms as you described with a burning sensation like a lighter being held under my palm. After two days went to minor injuries and was given a course of antibiotics and told to follow that up with ibruprofen for two weeks if the swelling continued. Fingers still not fully mobile though. My girlfriend; who's a nurse, recommends regularly applying moisturiser to your hands which coaxes the thorn out.
  11. Nice pics there Chris. You're blog looks promising too. Keep it up mate.
  12. As said by Bolt the woodburner's more entertainment than the telly. Get the fire going and keep topping up for a chilled out evening. Only problem is we bought one of those magnetic thermometers that you stick on the top from Clearview in Ludlow and you can't resist checking it every other minute!
  13. Who cares about keeping it legal when you've been broken into - I know I don't! Barbed wire, broken glass, six inch nails, vicious dog, shotgun, mantrap - whatever it takes. These sub species don't play by the rules and I'm sure your copper on the beat would love to turn a blind eye if it rid them of a known persistent offender. Sorry to read this Charlie.Lets hope your goods are retrieved.

:001_tt1::001_tt1: Scared to ask but....what's the price tag gonna be?
  15. Silky Zubat for me - just bear in mind that the scabbard is right handed so if your left handed like me it can be a real hassle! Why can't they offer a left handed scabbard?
  16. Only in the Black Country.....
  17. Yeah seen your truck about when been drinking outside the Lock pub.

  18. Yeah good mate of mine! We work together regularly. He works at a small arboreteum called Bodenham near Kinver Edge in Worcestershire. Best thing was he got the good old B.B.C. to pay for the respray of his mog for the wedding. I was at a lot of the recording but ended up on the cutting room floor - story of my life! We had a bit of a drink up and big screen in the local for the programme.
  19. Thanks for the replies chaps. This is exactly the take I have on the situation. It is up to Mr Bloggs to ensure the chosen person is of an acceptable professional capacity to carry the job out to the standards specified by the Local Authority - if any. It is also his discretion if he opts for a person with no insurance cover or of lesser skill - or even to attempt the job himself; so long as he understands the possible implications of his actions. This smacks of a "closed shop" as far as the details I have been given.
  20. Scenario: Mr Bloggs wants some trees in his garden removing. The property is within a conservation area so the Local Authority is contacted and the appropriate notices completed. Mr Bloggs receives confirmation that the council is happy for him to go ahead with the felling of the trees.........BUT he must use one of their approved contractors. Do you feel the Local Authority have any right to dictate who carries out the work on Mr Bloggs's private property or should this be choice of Mr Bloggs? This is not a job I am involved with but was a situation mentioned to me recently.

  24. Just got back from holidaying at Laggan just up the road from the estate where it was filmed. The chap we rented the cottage from worked on the making of the programme. He had to take a double take when he saw our Border Terrier! Great place with spectacular scenery - you guys who work up there are soooooo lucky.
  25. Belated happy birthday John.
