  1. BASC members have a group discount scheme that may be worth investigating, although not all dealers take part Members offers | The British Association for Shooting and Conservation A
  2. There is a product called Galebreaker Bayscreen® That should keep rain and snow out but allow wind to blow through for ventilation. A
  3. BASC are on the case for both of these threats. The firearms thing is a knee jerk from the Paris shootings which were carried out using AK47 assult type weapons or similar. These are banned for civilian use but as a reaction the authorities want to use it as an excuse to ban self loading weapons. 22LR self loaders were banned in Australia after someone went amok with one but are commonly owned in the UK. Lead shot, think its more political that anything else. I have killed long/tall Partridges with Bismuth 4s on a mixed duck and game drive, they fold up well. The alternatives are costly but if that is the deciding factor when you are paying £25-£35 a bird then you have your priorities wrong. But nothing in my opinion kills as cleanly as lead and that is what the issue is all about. A A
  4. Got 7 people in my local magazine selling firewood + 3 like me selling stoves with a firewood sideline. Prices down to around £60 for what is allegedly a cube. The warm autumn does not help sales for anyone but some snow and frost will soon bring the sales in. A
  5. I would be looking to buy and store his stock for when it gets cold. A
  6. Esse 350 is a good stove, done several boiler models of it. Another option is the Stratford boiler stoves, made by Arada, they are my go to boiler stove range. Both these brands are made in England from UK steel. You need to work out your heat requirements, be aware that the Stratford outputs are shown when burning solid fuel, if you are intending to burn wood you will need a Stratford with an output of around 30% more than you heat calcs suggest. So if your heat calcs say you want 12kw to the water then select the Stratford if thats the one you like with an output of around 16kw. Looks like the bigegst inset has a total output of 16kw, so that will need breaking down to heat output to the room and heat output to the water. A
  7. Given the size and volume that we saw, ( 15 ton on that trailer for a start) even in the film a small processor with single log loader would be a far safer and faster bet. But if he has nothing else to do it keeps him happy I suppose. A
  8. I sell them as 1.2 cube when filled, I fill, bounce and top off level full. Bag Supplies one are OK but I prefer bags from SG Baker, eyes are a bit bigger so better suited to a log grab when processing using one loader for both jobs and they are a bit more robust. However BS supplies ones are 900x 1100, Baker ones are 1m x 1m so they dont stack nicely together. A
  9. So do you now need a CPC for a 7.5 tonner?, my licence allows me to drive one not that I have done so for some years. I went into this quite carefully some time ago when I got pulled driving a Disco and trailer and no CPC was needed for me (5.5 ton), does a 7.5 tonner now need one ?. Thanks A
  10. Will take a load in the early summer but far to wet to get to my cord pile at present. A
  11. First come first served. Never run totally out yet but have come very close. A
  12. Welcome to the forum. According to Ritemove the average price of a decent semi in Harpenden is £500k, I guess you should be able to afford to buy a couple of cubic meters for this winter then maybe next summer someone may find you some rings but these days most home owners having a tree down have a queue of friends waiting for the wood. As many tree surgeons also sell logs not many have spare rings unless collected from site at short notice. A
  13. TM190, that should have adequate power !!. From a fuel consumption point of view it might be better to find something around 75hp-90hp to run it providing it will pick it up. According to Tractor Data your 190 could chew its way through almost 10 gals of fuel per hour !!. My MF135 goes through about 3 - 4 gallons a day processing although that would only pick up the smallest processors. A
  14. My birds will go through 20 + tonnes of wheat from Sept through to late May. Small songbirds will get their share but my game birds get the most followed by Badgers wrecking the feeders to get at the content. A
  15. Indépendant Landrover specialist, main dealer labour rates are horrendous. They can't sort everything but on my old Defender TD5 its not usually a problem. They have even just services and relined both my IFW trailers. Pleased you have your job now sorted. A
  16. I run my 135 at about 1400 rpm engine wise, thats about right. No way could I lift enough timber in a day to do 3 cube an hour, I am 62 and simply not capable any longer. Cutting it that way its about 6 cube a day with about 60 - 90 mins set up and take down and clear up in total. A rack and 3m logs makes things far easier if not much faster. A
  17. Cant see the point unless its grant supported, currently its cheaper to buy kiln dried stacked crates from the Baltic. There is no money at all in buying cord at £55 - £60 a ton, processing it, delivering it and going out at below £100 a cube. In my local area mag this time I found seven adds for seasoned logs down as low as £65 per cube. In addition to that there are three people including me who major on stoves but sell firewood as a support line. A
  18. Setting up, loading a manual rack with a teleporter, processing, taking down and clearing up sawdust etc. On my own in an 8 hour working day depending on the size of the cord I average about 8 cube. If I did not set up and take down then that could be 10 or 11 cube. I process into bags and plonk those once filled onto a trailer. If there were two I can manage more especially if I have one loader on the log grab and another handling the bags. 3 cube an hour on your own, assuming variable cord up to 300mm, much respect to you. You are probably younger and fitter than I am. Are you running the same set up rack wise ?. A
  19. I have also found it hard to source quality timber of an appropriate diameter, lots of people say yes yes but almost no one produces the goods. I have seen Birch/Ash/Syc cord at £65 a ton recently roadside, that make it cheaper for me to import kiln dried from the Baltic. The FC got a bit upset about that when I told them at a recent meeting. But things have a habit of coming full circle sooner or later so I last spring I only processed what comes off our farm and the estate next door, maybe 100 cube and bought the rest in as kilned stacked crates. Currently I have maybe 30 tons of cord in stock for 16-17 winter and another 100 tonnes or so next door, thats it but am looking at upgrading my JAPA 700 especially if there is EU funding for part of it. A
  20. I have a 2007 model that I bought from Fuelwood in 2010. It is a good machine to start with, produces a nice log. However once to start to do some volume you will find it a bit slow. On my own using the Fuelwood manual feed rack loaded with a teleporter I do about a cube an hour, 2 handed then 10 cube a day including setting up and taking down/cleaning up is on but it does depend on the size of cord you are putting through. On small stuff say 150mm or below its as fast any anything in the market. Belt wise if you keep them tight then its no issue but it is a major faf to change the main drive belt set. Grease nipple on the bearing at the blade end of the mainshaft is a huge problem, you just cant get to it when connected to a tractor. Hopefully that has been sorted on the newer models. I only grease that bearing when unit if off the tractor or when switching blades, I have two blades for it. Ring wise it will handle up to about 320mm but you will have to put the top logs off the 4 way splitter through again as they will be to big otherwise. There is a 5 and 6 way splitter but the ram is not that powerfull. Machine it at its optimum with cord 200mm - 250mm diameter and takes up to around 280mm, will go slightly more but you have to turn the log then backcut it. A
  21. And production volume would be about half what it appears on the vid. A
  22. [ame] [/ame] Note the roll on roll offs being connected straight up to a drying system, neat, wonder how they get the moisture out. Wonder how those logs sitting vertically as they come off the cutter would get on at 250mm long. A
  23. BASC may be able to put you in touch with a shoot if you are a member. Failing that put posts onto the shooting web sites, Pigeon Watch for example. A
  24. If your max loaded train weight is over 3.5 tonnes then tacho is needed. Small car and trailer as described should be ok but big car or a big 4x4 then you may be in trouble. A
  25. I have had that issue once before, guy was burning some smokeless fuel, 'Lion' brand from memory sourced from a cash and carry. This was petrolium based, something no stove manufacturer will warrant the use of. Cant see what Burley say making much sense, the stat is placed about a foot up the flue pipe, the air flow up a flue is pretty fast, while temps might be lower it is very marginal. Personally I put mine on the side of my stove. A
