  1. this is me sticking my neck on the block.i know that the vast majority of users on here are self employed or run a business. I know that everyone should have insurances when running a company to protect everyone involved. but come on! have you guys never hommered, hobbled, worked on the side when you were working for some outfit who paid you F all! lets have some honesty! if you said yes to the last question then you will probably say no to the next. did you have full public liability insurance. this is only my opinion and i don't care if it shocks but this is real life paying bills stuff!
  2. insurance i would love to put down my opinion howeva i think people would won't to jump on me from a great height if i did:blushing:
  3. homers? r they like what we call hobbles? work on the side?

    Flip line

steve in work showed me his strop settup and now i use it on a flipline: a fllipline with an extremely short blakes with a pulley on the crab works fine 4 one handed adjustment. or a prussik so you can use it any way!
  6. ended up doing for nothing in the hope of pr and a story in local rag. they didn't run the story:thumbdown: got a thank you card and work refferals so can't complain.
  7. me and my old business partner got called out by rspca for a cat up a tree. It was young and couldn't figure out how to come down but could climb higher and from tree to tree (he was more like a squirrel). After we both chased it through various trees i cut off any branches he could get on to change tree. then pete rigged the little limb the moggy was on and cut it:001_tongue: landed on his feet and ran off! I have also been out to rescue a pidgeon stuck in a tree by fishing gut, he was hanging upside down
  8. yeah but then you always get the bloke who used to be a tree surgeon chatting crap to you when working! maybe just wales:001_tongue: if i hear a saw in the distance i think please be quiet i am trying to kip:001_tt2:

  12. too right mate same old same old! there are pros for staying in even though mate and there are pros for leaving! for me it came down to hating my trade, the navy and having a sexy civvy missus and i would rather wake up to her than a load of matlowes and bootnecks. where r u based now? plus look johnty up on members list and pm him i think he was in n. devon good luck
  13. hi larry the lamb i left the forces in 2005 and did my training at kingswood (hoofin course:001_tt2:) really good and gives you all the basic tickets. I personally don;t know your skills family commits and apptitude but this would be a good start. get in with a company now! work weekends if they do? get a contact in your area off here or travel and get some tree climbing experience. the more experience you can get before you leave the better, because it will make the courses easier and you will learn a lot quicker. network now not when you leave wish i had! arb is amazing i now wish i had found it before i joined up and wasted 6 years! what ya doing in pompey? work or live? are you relocating? johnty on hear is an ex bootneck pti maybe he will have some more specific advice. but the ressetlement package from the mod exactly covers the kingswood course. good luck
  14. what was the name of this bar the blue oyster!
  15. sounds good but they would still buy them second hand or steal them! i think it is just unfortunate that the public will employ them. but the vast majority of people just think anyone can do our job. there will always be cowboys just as there will always be indians (ying yang, karma, blah blah)
