    No. All the branches should have been cut back to a growth point that would sustain the remaining branch, but overall, give the tree a smaller shape, if that is what was required. It is a selective process requiring a skilled eye. K

    @Margaret1963 the tree should have a crown shape similar to its original shape, with barely noticeable cuts, in leaf. It should also be carried out when the tree is at full vitality. Not at this time. Winter. K

    @Margaret1963 basicaly you need a reason to reduce a healthy tree, which that tree does indeed look. As pruning wounds can lead to infection and tree decline. If done well, it can give you the results you want and maintain health. Badly done will lead to decline or shorten the life of a tree. K

    Oddly , I can remember a time when half of my customers wanted a tree out cos ' its too big ' and quite a lot of honest tree companies will have made their money out of that - back then . Obvs I put those customer right , now . But something to remmember. K
