  1. Update... 4 times the tractor has been back to the dealer. Each time it is in for 'far too long'... several weeks once and they didn't manage to fix it either! When we went back today to collect it (fixed they said) we where told that another JD1026 had arrived in the shop with much the same faults and that JD have admitted to supplying a faulty manifold to replace a faulty manifold. The question of pollutant in the system will be answered when we test samples from the tractor and from the front loader which has been detached and must be purged of it's oil. I have been told that the tractor will be back in operation next week... If it is not then we are really in the mire as I have 2 weeks of work lined up for it. Ty
  2. Why are you leaving the army anyway? No career prospects there? You will find a common moan on this forum is one about the sheer numbers of new arbs being churned out by all these training providers thus creating a glut of tree surgeons and lowering prices. Best of luck though. Ty
  3. Any-one used the French make Pellenc? A back pack battery and hedgecutter sell here for around 2200euros inc. vat. Will be trialing one soon for a few days. Ty
  4. Our Bosch angle grinder with diamond disc would require 4 batteries at least to sharpen 8 lead teeth on our 4012 on a cold day. I take a mains grinder and extension lead or change teeth which ever is more convenient. Ty
  5. If you believe in alternative medicine then try cranial manipulation from an oesteopath. It's worked for friends of ours even though it's not a proven treatment. More likely to be collic though. Our boy is now 3 months old and is super calm. Even so I sleep apart. Daughter is 26 months and prone to nightmares and prolonged night time crying sessions. That however is linked to whatever she did/saw during the day. Ty
  6. Multinational you say...? NPTC qualifications are certainly not recognised in France. Bizzarely without certificates you may own a business and employ but you cannot take on an apprentice without having a French Diploma or a U.K degree in arboriculture. Ty
  7. In Stefan, we may have found a replacement for Mendiplogs. Both are quite mad with shaky English... Ty:biggrin:
  8. I suggest that like me you organise your own private investigation or simply google 'Serial killer walks free after converting to Islam in jail' Daily Wail might have a few words on that... Ty
  9. Er...aside from poor tree work, misrepresentation, false claims, lies and serious criminal records one of which was so serious that I then found myself with a duty of care to inform his immediate entourage. In the end it was easy as the information was freely available in the public domain on other websites specifically set up to inform and keep track of such offenders. If you lie about your qualifications then your probably lying about other stuff... Ty
  10. A while ago I lost a few jobs to 2 separate unqualified Brits whose websites made claims that would have had trading standards on their case had they been back in the U.K. Through my company lawyer, a web search and by calling in favours I managed to find information on each (pure gold) which when I confronted each party with the information, it resulted each in a swift return back across the Channel. Many Brits run away abroad to escape from their past. If their past is obscure online and their business abroad less than 'above board' then there is a good chance that they are hiding from something. Ty
  11. Here, in France, homemade or after market adaptions to existing vehicle bodies are considered not to be strictly legal as they do not carry a certificate of conformity. Goes for homemade trailers too. If your homemade vehicle adaption falls apart spilling chip and logs on the A84 route to Caen and causes a pileup then I imagine this will be a factor in any investigation and litigation that follows... Ty
  12. Because greed is a sin? I have 'Generous boards' fitted to our trucks which allow for a 'generous' amount of chip to be carried... Ty
  13. The retired miser who has all the time in the world and all the knowledge and who would do the job himself and in fact will direct the job regardless of who wins the quote and who could do the job better himself but for his back... Ty
  14. In Frenchy France, we use the phrase 'Forfait journalier' So regardless of the job being an hour or a day and half, the day rate is set as a 'forfait' or price for a single day. Works for me anyway...but I am flexible. Ty
  15. Packed Mrs Lee and our 2 bairns off to Morocco middle of July. This mean't that my weekends suddenly became free. Sundays are 100% family normally so I was able to go quoting instead. I drove 372km one Sunday and saw 6 British clients. Brits tend to be spread out and one client was 2 hours drive West but the job was a good size one so worth the travel. I won all 6 jobs too boot. Over 550 man hours of work. This Sunday will be my last opportunity to go quoting before I fly out myself to Morocco to cycle down the coast then up into the Atlas mountains. Though I'll still be connected and answering the smart phone when I've a signal. We too are running 2 teams this Winter, one for jobs further afield (guys who are not bound by child care and snappy wives) and another for more local work. 4 full time on the books plus a scattering of subbies. Ty
  16. 'Like' in a Facebook style... For my part, I called Jason in service and support at G.M today about tuning the Quadchips revs. Other stuff was discussed and balls are rolling. Yup, I call the factory, not my dealer if I want a serious response. I feel ashamed every time I let fly about my G.M machines on here. G.M are totally pro-active and have been there for me every time. Since 2010 never let me down, not once. Issues are dealt with normally LONG before I feel the need to let out on the forum. The dealer though... Nice people but the aftersales culture here in France is null... Ty
  17. Thought you'd been quiet about your chipper. Want to meet up, get drunk and cry together some-time...? Ty:blushing:
  18. I for one have sworn that the next machine I buy will be one I choose myself at the factory and only after a goodly lot of tyre kicking, lid lifting and unscrewing stuff just to see if it goes back without an unnecessary fight to align bolt holes. Ty:sneaky2:
  19. It's test bed project for illegal immigrants! Ty:laugh1:
  20. Well... Just visited a 'potential client'... Gay guy, proper queen, lisp, effeminate and totally over the top theatrical hand gestures, wasn't sure he was real or not. Want's us to fell his NEIGHBOURS birch as the seed in his velux/leaves in his gutters/windblown twigson his lawn/blocked evening light on his decking make his life totally unliveable and he is considering moving rather than suffering his neighbours tree. I thought I was on a French hidden camera programme it was that crazy. It's a walk away fast and never pick up the phone to this number again situation and I get them on a regular basis. I freely admit that I don't have the tolerance for such people. Tuesday, it's Auld Rob's turn to mediate between an American couple and their French neighbour with the local council representative over trees which make the Americans house apparantly 'unsaleable'. The American couple are in a state of near hysteria and are sleeping in a room on the other side of the house from the trees they are that afraid of one coming down on their heads in the night. Ty:001_rolleyes:
  21. I want it done now!/ My wife is afraid of it falling on the house/ I'm cheesed off with leaves and seeds/ My daughter is allergic to the pollen/I want sun on my decking/I will be at the house (second home) only on this date in April (bad time eh?) If you don't do it when I want it done the way I want it done I'll get some-one else who likes cash type folding money more than you to do exactly what I want to this unfortunate short lived birch. Ty:001_rolleyes:
  22. Personally, I never refuse a job even when the client demands a 50% birch reduction. In this case I'll try and sell a removal and replant but I'll always give the client what they want in the end. Ty
  23. Hi, Cycling around the island today, I bumped into Mr Le Maistre and delightfull children at a cafe on the North coast and had a chat with him. It's a small island in a small world ain't just! Ty
  24. I'm there tomorrow, spending the weekend with my Jersey lawyer. Favourite destination for a taste of home especially when the Dairy Milk and tea bags are at a low... Ty
