1. Is the same Newton of Kent solid fuels who is dying of emphysema caused by coal dust? Or the black guy in the white Merc you meet most Fridays at 11pm? Ty:laugh1:
 2. The 4012 had many odd design flaws. Placing sensitive electronic equipement in an uninsulated steel box without any attempt to vibration or damp proof it. 3 options of controling the machine but none which share the same toggle switch configeration making switching over controls a struggle. Uber-pants on loose chip, wet grass and gradients. Having a radiator placed where it can suck up chip dust and also block the view of the stump if using the toggle switches in an emergency. A build that although tough and well finished has many traps for dirt making cleaning more of a chore than it should be. Original bearings that purge grease into the main drive belt housing requiring weekly scooping out of the filthy mess. The turning circle of Plutos orbit... American standard sized fittings when it is sold into the European market. FFS wouldn't hurt to make the bits metric for us would it? Ty
 3. No, the specialist industrial belt supplier sold us the wrong belt and being F-ing French insisted that the belt was the genuine article and that was that. 20hours later they got proved wrong... Still, the new one is on and the machine is busy re-gaining lost ground. I have a friend here, a retired manufacturing line technician who fitted the belt for me for a bottle of un-commonly good Scotch. What I'd like to do now is replace the drive wheels for semi-ag versions. Might help stop it getting stuck on it's own shadow... Ty
 4. 975hrs on our 2012 Quadchip. As I was changing the bearings I noticed the tensioner pulley was wobbling around. The bearings had long dried out and siezed so the bearing shell was turning within the pulley wearing the softer alloy. Still tight on the pulley shaft though. New pulley is 1. 'tres cher' 2. A unique part to G.M so not able to be sourced by any local suppliers. So I asked our local friendly engineering firm for advice and this is what they did for 135euros inc vat. I supplied the bearings. Ty
 5. Every-one needs a hobby Mark... Ty:biggrin:
 6. All my labour is foreign... The last Brit I employed turned out to have a serious drug problem and stole from us. The one before that misrepresented himself age, ability and level of French. The French lads are arrogant pups but at least they speak the language and don't get the 'ump over having to eat a 4 course restaurant meal every day for lunch. Our tame Afghan though is a fat lazy sod who believes the world owes him a living. Ty
 7. Modalert or Modnafil bought via the web from Singapore. Stay awake for days then crash and feel like you brains gone all Windows reboot... Ty
 8. That's French style customer service for you... Ty
 9. When I worked in N.Z milking Jersey cows, the male calves where put into a shelter at the end of the drive and the knackers lorry came every few days for them. Any born out of season where land fill. Now all our water was bore hole and there where another half dozen farms further up the valley from us. After one of the workers was hospitalised with Leptospirosis, our borehole was tested and came in positive for Leptospirosis and E'coli as well as some other nasty diseases. All those farms more remote than us also practice the same method of out of season carcass disposal. Us, further down the valley recieved the fall out. Ty
 10. Oy! my property is devalued cos I can't get no decent satellite signal and I can't sweep leaves cos of my depression caused by the stress of poor tv reception. Any one know a caravan dwelling tree fella who might do the job for the wood?
 11. You already know my opinion. But for the record, for us it was game changing investment coupled with our 26hp JD1026 equipped with a grab bucket. This year on one of the bio-mass leylandii jobs we skidded the trees the full 70m of cable to the loaders station. We welded a tow hitch centrally on ours. You'll not regret it Mick. Ty
 12. Nor the neighbours 3 doors down... Ty:laugh1:

 14. Another my business partner believes is 'don't respond to clients too quickly or they will think you need the work badly' He must have been a Parisien waiter in a past life... Ty
 15. The exact same subject of Fridays heated arguement whilst driving home with my business partner. He is always falling for this line from clients who say 'Do me a good price on this site clearance and there will be more work later' There never is more work. You do the job for no profit and the client moves on to the next mug. Ty
 16. Yes, people with second homes in E.U countries have been wounded badly by the exchange rate. 2009 saw parity with a pound being a euro after falling from 1.42 where it had been for a few years. Now again people are faced with the same situation. 1.42 earlier in the year down to 1.10 (ignore airport exchange rates) Imagine, trying to operate a business when your client base experiences a 25% drop in income. That is how it is here for many Brits living and working in France who have not integrated sufficiently and broken into the French market. I am largely insulated from exchange rate fluctuations having worked hard to develop a business based on French clients with only around 10% British. Ty

Hello Chap,

How are things?

G.M are giving us a new machine, a new 200 to replace the 190.

In the meantime I pick up another 190 to use as this fault with the rollers is getting unbearable at times.

The 4012 shredded another belt. Turns out the lastbelt was the wrong one, not a re-enforced one. I did argue this with the supplier at the time who assured me that it was the right belt depsite the price being less than half the going rate for a Kevlar belt.

Replacing the 2 toothed pullies this time too at 600 a pair...

That will be 6k I've spent on the 4012 this year...

The latest mysterious electrical issue (machine dies when on remote) was the remote stop button malfunctioning. Only 93euros but mornings drive to Le Mans and back. Fault fixed in 10min.

I wish I had a beer tonight, it was a money Saturday in the rain...first for a couple of months.

All the best

Stuart

 18. Maybe it's just a super offer like this one here posted on a forum for ex-pats in Brittany. https://www.angloinfo.com/brittany/classifieds/ad/brittany-wood-grass-cuttings-to-giveaway1470497727 Hope springs eternal... Ty:001_rolleyes:
 19. AHAHAH! 5 miles, your a proper local yokel! If your crossing the border, leave a trail of rice or use a ball of twine so you can find your way back home... Ty
 20. We are green, white and orange. So that's Greenmech, John Deere, Iveco and t'shirts from fruit of the loom... Red Meindel boots which I wish where black or orange as they spoil the whole look... Ty
 21. We started with an 18hp CS100 and it was a good machine for us until we upgraded to a 6" diesel. I get cold shivers and sweats looking back at some jobs we took on armed only with the CS100. I honestly think 13hp is too small to turn a decent coin for any aspiring tree business. Home owners, I am sure it is fine for. Save your money, get some credit, it's inexpensive to borrow at the moment. Go for at least 18hp if you must go wee chipper or put your funds into a used road tow. Best of luck anyway. Ty

 23. Glad you see my point of view at last... Ty:001_tt2:
 24. We grind over 80% of all trees felled so it's an important addition to our turnover. I am well aware of what is viable, what is possible with what machine and what is £4k sat in the corner of the barn. I had a go, it's not for me, I guess I just don't care for that kind of hard work. Like when we upgraded from the CS100 wee chipper to a diesel 6". I thought, I'll keep that wee chipper for all those Mission Impossible jobs... When those jobs did come up we worked around NOT using the wee chipper instead. Ty
