  1. Thanks for that Actually I think you might be right, it does look like the one in Treeworkers with the hard platform, I might have to keep looking.
  2. Well I was about to burn the thing tbh but since I'm a tight git I thought I would try and get my 200 quid's worth out of it whether it kills me or not I did bang some loctite on and check it on a daily basis now:001_rolleyes:
  3. Why? If I notice any defects in trees while, pricing, pruning or in general if I think it could be a possible future problem then I inform the customer about it. Once I've explained what they should be looking for and why they usually understand, better than saying "Yep its fooked needs felling asap it will cost ya XXXX"
  4. Remove a limb or top it? I'd say topping wont be any more favourable tbh. Just ntp the limb and tell them to keep an eye on it.
  5. The Tree Flex I have does that, it goes past the shackle and onto the leg webbing stuff. It's really getting to annoy me especially when it lengtens the distance to my prussic making it hard to reach so when out on a limb it can be fairly awkward to use. I wouldnt buy another one tbh Oh and one of the shackles that holds the bridge to the harness decided to unscrew its self with about one thread to go only realised when I had get down and was removing the harness, was previuosly up a 40ft leylandii over a metal spikey fence
  6. Very strange it should just burn. You sure its ash:biggthumpup:
  7. No its not that one mate, that has a hard seat.Cheers though. Actually its not for me its for one of the lads.
  8. Please would be very much appreciated
  9. [quote name='Richard Allinson;70697Therefore to my mind the solution is to regulate the customer into having a duty of care to employ qualified contractors or become liable. We have enough bull to cope with They do have a responsibility to use a contractor who adheres to HSE and any necessary laws etc. I cant think of a good way to put it really' date=' but for instance if you do a job for someone and fly tip all there brash , logs etc down a lane then the house holder in the eyes of the law will have to take some responsibilty for it if you get caught. When there is alot of competition about and I mean ALOT in an area where people are tight buggers anyway it makes life a bit more diffucult. Either that or I'm a right S*** climber and a lazy git
  10. The problem I can see is that most domestic customers couldnt give a hoot about qualifications, experience or insurance. (In my area of work anyhow) I have an NCH(arb) cert plus all the necessary NPTCs and 5 million PL, now although I advertise the fact that we hold all the above I can count on one hand the number of times potential domestic customers have asked to see them. Commercial is completely different, they want everything above plus more! So having some "arborist license" would probably be a waste of time and money for me since hardly anyone would recognise it.
  11. Sounds fair enough to me. 6hrs is more or less a full days work, I'd just triple the price I would normally charge.
  12. Lol, I do have some new ones aswell 1 12 months old the other 18 months. Anyhow its the age of recycling m8 get with it Everything cost only £2 a day, it just all adds up
  13. Is the guy in the photo waering a Svensk Tradvard Skybelt? I'm after one to replace my old un but I cant find the exact make and model now that its all changed. Not sure if there made by Komet or Cresto they all look similar. They either have hard seats, no seat, or have a bridge.
  14. Allright calm down calm down! I never dis say I was a hazard tree expert. I retract my statement in my previous post and say just remove the limb problem or not
  15. If your taking about what I said then I think you dont know what sarcasim is I very much doubt that it is illegal to ask what what other competitors quotes are. I never do that anyway doesnt give a good impression to the customer I think. You need to do what Dean says, work out your overheads etc then the most important bit of working out how long the job will take, thats the hardest bit. Well it is if you have a lot of competition otherwise charge what you like
  16. A catch chain? what would you attach it too? I'm guessing the tree so you are going to be messing with the trees current state or its adaptive growth." whether it runs through a polly hose or not. It looks like a decent sized limb which would take a hell of a lot to stop it hitting the deck. I'd probably go with what others have said in either reduce the weight or cable brace it.
  17. Surgical spirit is supposed to toughen your hands up. And dont use gloves there for girls

Would this help on a juglular neck injury? Just thinking of that lad who died http://www.arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3776&highlight=neckcould it have possibly saved someone from that type of injury.

    no fear

Every now and then take a look at what your doing and have a think if your happy about it. I neither fear nor respect chainsaws, they are a power tool they do what you tell them to do. You f**k up and they will bite you, If you want to know what it feels like ask a college wearing a pair of steely's to give you a right good kick in the hand, leg, arm, face, neck etc then have a bit of a slash with a silky.
  20. Narr look after them properly and you can easily get 10+ years
  21. Hold the saw with one hand and the pull start with the other, release the saw without jerking it. ie drop it slowly. The saw should hang a bit on the pull start then very slowly drop, it shouldnt drop really quickly indicating there is no compression.
  22. The problem is it aint so common I'm surprised that some of the people I've met over the years can walk and talk at the same time
  23. Cheers for the info fellas Looks like we could do with some nice statute laws to clear things up I'll have a look about for that book by Charles Mynors you never know what might show up on ebay! It is probably best left to the solicitors, that or the gypo's!
  24. Always tune with the chain on and properly tensioned. As for the revs could be an air leak, check the rubber intake pipe that goes from carb to cylinder for damage splits etc, also make sure it is fully seated on the cylinder. Check the small thin pipe that goes from carb(well black plastic nipple on handle) to the cylinder see if thats split missing or not on properly. Make sure the H and L needle are at the standard setting before messing about with them (1 full turn out )
